Bad Luck Spaces[edit]

Bad Luck Spaces have a function significantly different from Unlucky Spaces in previous games, so maybe...split instead? MLPJToadetteWink.gif ToadettetheAchiever 12:03, 12 October 2018 (EDT)

They have the same Japanese though. --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 12:04, 12 October 2018 (EDT)
Having the same Japanese name does not qualify for a merge by itself. MLPJToadetteWink.gif ToadettetheAchiever 18:13, 12 October 2018 (EDT)
I agree, the Bad Luck Spaces are a lot more similar to Bowser Spaces than Unlucky Spaces. --MK8DX Waluigi Icon.png Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 21:05, 12 October 2018 (EDT)

Split Bad Luck Space and Extra Bad Luck Space[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

split while covering Bad Luck Space and Extra Bad Luck Space in the same article 4-5-1
This stems from the discussion above.

Throughout all three games they appear in, Unlucky Spaces simply cause something bad to happen to the player who landed on it. Bad Luck Spaces, on the other hand, are more like successors to Bowser Spaces from previous games, as they force the player to spin an event roulette; also, as Mario jc pointed out, they even have different Japanese names from each other. I was considering splitting this out already, but Mario jc suggested I just start a proposal anyways to ensure everyone is on board with the split (as well as my previous undiscussed split of VS Space and Minigame Space).

Split; cover Bad Luck Space and Extra Bad Luck Space in separate articles[edit]

  1. Toadette the Achiever (talk) My preferred option.
  2. Obsessive Mario Fan (talk) Second choice.
  3. FanOfYoshi (talk) Read my comments.
  4. Doomhiker (talk) I prefer the Extra Bad Luck being split as it’s like a form the Bad Luck Space, given it coming at a different time. Regardless, the spaces should at least be split from this article, as they are entirely different with different names with no evidence of being the same.

Split; cover Bad Luck Space and Extra Bad Luck Space in the same article[edit]

  1. Waluigi Time (talk) It's clearly closer to the Bowser Space than the Unlucky Space, so it really shouldn't be covered here. I don't think the Bad Luck and Extra Bad Luck Spaces are different enough to warrant two articles, though.
  2. TheDarkStar (talk) - Per Waluigi Time.
  3. Obsessive Mario Fan (talk) They're clearly different from Unlucky Spaces, but I don't think the two are really different enough to be split, as one just has worse effects.
  4. Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.
  5. WeirdDave13 (talk) Per all

Keep merged[edit]

  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) JUST because they have a slightly different function, and English name does NOT mean they're not the same thing.

Comments[edit]

@FanOfYoshi Their function isn't "slightly" different from Unlucky spaces. Bad Luck Spaces are actually a lot more like Bowser Spaces.

I think there should be an option for merging this with Bowser Space. Super Mushroom Artwork - Super Mario 3D World.png Obsessive Mario Fan MK8DX Mario Icon.png 22:59, October 25, 2019 (EDT)

I could be wrong though. It could be because the other Japanese names aren't noted that i oppose, though, this is speculation. --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 02:24, October 26, 2019 (EDT)
Out of curiosity, can anyone check the filenames, even though it might spoil the filename? --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 02:37, October 26, 2019 (EDT)
If it turns out they have different Japanese name, would they be split into separate articles? --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 05:59, November 5, 2019 (EST)
Yes. Even if they had the same Japanese name, they're still different. Super Mushroom Artwork - Super Mario 3D World.png Obsessive Mario Fan MK8DX Mario Icon.png 14:55, November 5, 2019 (EST)
Most of the consensus votes for them to be covered in the same article, so it's not really spliting. It's just reorganizing the article. What's the point of making a proposal if it's just to reorganize the page? I'd agree for a separate page then, even if we don't know the other type's Japanese name. --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 15:34, November 5, 2019 (EST)
It’s not, though. Bad Luck Space is being split from this page, and in the second option, the Extra Bad Luck Space is being covered on the newly split Bad Luck Space article. The Unlucky Space is still going to be in this article, and thus pages are being spit in both options one and two. Doomhiker (talk)Topmini.png 15:51, November 5, 2019 (EST)

Re-merge them[edit]

When I saw the split in the subject, I got angry. I disagree with this in every way. I know the Bad Luck spaces behave more like Bowser spaces, but they are still the opposite of the Lucky spaces. Plus, The Extra Bad Luck Spaces are even MORE like the Bowser Space. If you disagree with me, remember that I was the one to discover the Bad Luck Space's name similarity, and the opposition of the Lucky space.--Partier (talk) 21:18, February 10, 2020 (EST)

I don't see why Bad Luck Spaces being the opposite of Lucky Spaces means they should be re-merged. If you feel that strongly about it, you can start another proposal, but given that only one other user wanted them to stay merged I don't think it's going to change anything. --MK8DX Waluigi Icon.png Too Bad! That Proposal to split the article into two is stupid. I do not see ANY difference between The Bad Luck Space and the Unlucky Space. I know they replace the Bowser Spaces, but, I'd say it is just a Bowser Space wannabe. Either way, It is still the opposite of the Lucky Space. If there are more of you who say They are not the same, What makes you think they are so different that the split was SO important to you all?

Okay, New rule, If the proposal fails, I suggest we could Use Super Mario Party stating to go to the Bad Luck Space For more information.

Re-merge[edit]

  1. Partier (talk) I was the one who put Super Mario Party in the Unlucky Space page in the first place, Because, They are still the opposite page. They may act like the Bowser space, But it is just that The names mean the same thing. Whatever the reason may be for you think they are different, Comment it. Besides, You spin a Roulette for the Lucky Space (in Super Mario Party) too, so what gives?

Keep it split[edit]

  1. Scrooge200 (talk) Unlucky Spaces involve happenings on the board. Bad Luck Spaces have a different name, design, and function, causing generic bad events.
  2. Trig Jegman (talk) Two visually different objects that serve expressly different functions, with different requirements to encounter, as well as one experiencing a unique change (Bad Luck to Extra Bad) means that the split here is entirely valid.
  3. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per all.
  4. TheDarkStar (talk) - Per all. I'm also not a fan of the former section title ("keep it split because I'm a stupid idiot").
  5. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Per my original proposal to split these out in the first place.
  6. Alex95 (talk) - Per all.
  7. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all. Also, we should probably split both as well.
  8. Waluigi Time (talk) Per all and the previous proposal. Nothing said here makes me even consider that these are the same and need to be re-merged.
  9. Obsessive Mario Fan (talk) Per all.
  10. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

You do realize that the Lucky Space in Super Mario Party does the same thing, but with good events, right? --Partier (talk) 00:01, February 11, 2020 (EST)

Actually, the "Re-merge" option should be above the Opposition, not below. --SMW2yoshi.gif FanOfYoshi 11:08, February 11, 2020 (EST)
