(First topic)[edit]

There's a separate article for Pidgit Bills, which is the same thing as Bullet Bills. So, why isn't there a separate article for Jumping Pumpkin Plant? ThePremiumYoshi 08:45, 6 December 2011 (EST)

Split Jumping Pirahna Plant and Jumping Pumpkin Plant[edit]

I don't understand why these two enemies are merged because while it is true that they act the same in just about every sense there appearance and most importantly there names are different. Also it's inconstant since Pidgit Bill, Mask Koopa, and Para Mask Koopa all have separate pages while Jumping Pumpkin Plant does not. And I would like to point out that a lot of things have pages even though they are just a regular enemy doing a specific thing such as Beach Koopa, Climbing Koopa, and even Koopa Paratroopa falls into this since they are just regular Koopa Troopas with wings, these examples (in my opinion) render any arguments about how Jumping Piranha Plants and Jumping Pumpkin plants are two similar to warrant separate pages moot since this wiki has a long standing history of creating pages for enemies that are the exact same thing with an added (or removed) feature or attack.

Split[edit]

  1. Raven Effect (talk) Per my arguments
  2. Tails777 (talk) If Masked Koopas and Pigit Bills have their own articles, then so should these guys. Per proposal.
  3. Walkazo (talk) - Per both.
  4. Bop1996 (talk) Per proposal.
  5. Commander Code-8 (talk) Per proposer.
  6. Mario4Ever (talk) Per all.
  7. ThePremiumYoshi (talk) - Per my comment above.
  8. BabyLuigiOnFire (talk) The only reason I would oppose this is that it behaves exactly alike to a normal Jumping Piranha Plant (all they are are just a mere sprite edit). But, seeing as we have articles on Mask Koopas and Pidgit Bills, I have no choice but to support the consistency.
  9. GalacticPetey (talk) I agree with above.

Fire Breathing Variety[edit]

Though already pointed out should there be a separate article about the Fire Breathing Jumping Piranha the same thing should be done with the Fire Spitting Nipper Plant? TheHelper1000 (talk)

Where do they appear in Super Mario Party?[edit]

I heard through the gripevine that these Bowser Minions reappear in Super Mario Party, but do they make a cameo appearance in that mini game with the sprites?

Their sprite makes an appearance in Puzzle Hustle, as seen here, though it uses the label "Piranha Plant". --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 13:07, 20 October 2018 (EDT)

Split Jumping Pumpkin Plant from Jumping Piranha Plant[edit]

split 9-0
Currently, Jumping Pumpkin Plants are merged to Jumping Piranha Plants. I would like to split them, for reasons I am about to explain. (Keep in mind I'll use "J. Pumpkin" to refer to the foe since its shorter than their full name.)

J. Pumpkins appear in other works besides Super Mario World; in the Super Mario Kodansha manga and Super Mario-kun Volume 2 to be specific. While their Kodansha appearance isn't all too notable, the J. Pumpkin is the main antagonist of stage 8 of Super Mario-kun (it appears in stage 7 too but that's a minor thing). J. Pumpkin has many traits that are entirely different from J. Piranha in its -kun appearance, including being able to grow tentacles and place pumpkin masks on its foes. The plant is also identified by Yoshi as a unique entity, being a rare and dangerous Dinosaur Land plant. It being a -kun antagonist is enough to split it off, especially since other antagonists from -kun have their own articles (Kyodai Togemetto, Metto Oyakata, Kāmenētā, and many more). It making appearances in other media, including a game, is all the more reason to give it its own page. They also have a distinct name in -kun, being 裏ピーパックン (Ura P-Pakkun, which translates to "Flipside Jumping Piranha Plant"). These reasons lead me to propose this split.

This proposal, if passed, would split Jumping Pumpkin Plant from Jumping Piranha Plant and partially overturn the proposal to merge all Fall variants in the first place. I have a draft of what the split article would look like if you wanted to see it.

  6. Camwoodstock (talk) For us, the real silver bullet for splitting the Pumpkin Plant over any of the other fall enemies is the Kun appearance; it is clearly treated as separate from an ordinary Piranha Plant in that appearance, and gets plenty of unique art just for it. The drafted split article looks very nice, and most importantly, sufficiently explains their role in Kun. Per proposal.
  7. EvieMaybe (talk) per all.

Keep merged[edit]

Comments[edit]

I do want to point out that the more recent in-game source, Super Mario Advance 2, reflects the lack of change in the cast roll labels that the Japanese version has (ie, it still says "Jumping Piranha Plant" to match the Japanese version labeling it "P-Pakkun.") This is why I think one should consider "Jumping Piranha Plant (fall)" as a title, especially since those various other pumpkin-headed Piranhas aren't named themselves. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:43, June 27, 2025 (EDT)

In A2, they don't change the name of the enemy it replaces alongside the sprite. The only English name for the specific replacement is Jumping Pumpkin Plant, as I interpret it. Not sure if I'm wording this the best, but... yeah. Dry Bones' Emblem from Mario Kart World This is me, D-B-B! Dry Bones' Emblem from Mario Kart World 17:47, June 27, 2025 (EDT)
Banana Peel is not named after its most recent in-game name for sake of distinction. It probably shouldn't be, but if it is then sure we can have Jumping Pumpkin Plant. Salmancer (talk) 17:56, June 27, 2025 (EDT)
Well that's just it, it's not meant to be given a name specific to the replacement, going by shared names in the language-of-origin. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:04, June 28, 2025 (EDT)
I would like to point out that this proposal first happened in 2012. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:34, June 28, 2025 (EDT)
The circumstances were completely different back then. Back in 2012, the key argument there was that other Fall enemies such as Pidgit Bill and Mask Koopa got their own articles while Jumping Pumpkin Plant didn't... which is no longer the case, ever since it was decided in a 2015 proposal to merge all Fall enemies back to their original counterparts due to their behavior and Japanese names being unchanged at all. It's now 10 years later, the environment's very different from back in 2012. The key argument from that 2012 proposal doesn't work here anymore, since all Fall enemies are merged, NOT just Jumpin' Pumpkin over here. So now, the key argument is instead that Jumping Pumpkin Plants appear to have pivotal roles in particular chapters of Super Mario-kun and the Kodansha manga, which would make them particular characters, and in turn save them from getting merged. This is also the reason why K. Rool's wife gets her own article instead of being relegated to the List of implied characters. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 09:29, June 28, 2025 (EDT)
Still best to point it out. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:00, June 29, 2025 (EDT)
