Nintendo Power issue 12 is the twelfth volume of Nintendo Power, released in May/June 1990.
The Player's Pulse section on page 6 contains a question from Stevie Stevens, who mentions Super Mario Land, Baseball, and Tetris as the games he owns. Stevens also says he is looking forward to getting more games for his Game Boy, including Golf.
In Tom Wittgow's Power Player Profile at the bottom of page 7, Wittgow states he played a lot of Super Mario Bros. 3 on a Nintendo PlayChoice-10 before the Nintendo Entertainment System version released. He also mentions how "tricky" it was playing as Raccoon Mario. Later he mentions he attended a "Super Mario Bros. Challenge" at his local toy store and won with 389,000 points. He got a Game Boy as a prize so he bought Super Mario Land. Near the end of the profile, Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the games he is looking out for on the NES.
The NES Journal section on page 85 advertises the Nintendo Comics System. Super Mario Bros. Special Edition #1, Nintendo Comics System, and Super Mario Bros. 1 are mentioned to have already been released. At the beginning of the section, it states that Mario and Luigi's further adventures are on the horizon and clarifies that they are not gossiping about Super Mario Bros. 4.
Nintendo Cereal System, Candy USA Mario Bros. Candy Bars, Natural Kids Foods Super Mario Bros. juice boxes, Thomas J. Lipton Super Mario Bros. fruit snacks, and Gold Bond Ice Cream Nintendo ice cream sandwiches are advertised on page 86.
In Willie Aames' celebrity profile on page 87, Super Mario Bros. is the first game played when Aames gets an NES. Aames says his son Christopher saved the Princess before he got through the first world.
The final pages of the issue tease the next issue.

Howard & Nester[edit]
The Howard & Nester comic featured in this issue makes references to Super Mario Bros. 3. The duo enters an NES via the NES Interface Modulator to look for bugs by checking on the Warp Whistles. To obtain one, they have to go through a mini fortress. Howard and Nester also obtain Raccoon Leafs from Brick Blocks. Howard tries to put raccoon ears onto Nester, but his head is too big. Howard tells Nester he can use the warp whistle to warp to worlds 2, 3, and 4.
