Nintendo Power issue 8 is the eighth volume of Nintendo Power, released in September/October 1989. It was released with a free copy of the Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Power Tip Book (part 2).
The Contents section on page 5 mentions the Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Power Tip Book:

In the Mail Box section on page 6, Jason Nadolinski's mother made a Mario-themed cake, which can be seen on an image. He also said that Mario is his favorite NES character.
Mark Discordia writes on the next page in the section Video Spotlight that he has completed Super Mario Bros. 2 in 28 minutes. He also writes that his friends call him Mario, because they are both Italian and they are both plumbers. His letter also includes a photo of him wearing a Mario t-shirt and holding a copy of Super Mario Bros. 2 with a caption "Mark wearing his custom made Mario shirt." Clint Woodall mentions Super Mario Bros. 2 in a list of favorite games. Mike, Shannon, and Danny Tosto also write that they have enjoyed Super Mario Bros. 2.
Page 52 shows game cartridges for Super Mario Land, Baseball, and Alleyway. The next page mentions these games again, describing Super Mario Land as "an all new Super Mario adventure where he goes to places that he's never been before." It is also stated that in Baseball, "the pitcher has a view from the mound and the batter has a view from the plate."
The NES Achievers section on page 91 contains only one game of the Super Mario franchise, Pinball, with a top score achieved by Mark Wright of 999,980.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is mentioned on page 92 in a section about Captain N: The Game Master.
On page 93, it is stated that Brian Robbins spends more than two hours each week playing Baseball.
Page 96 advertises How to win at Super Mario Bros. (incorrectly formatted as How to Win At Super Mario Bros.).
