Roy Koopa is the boss of this level. The walls of the room will slowly become narrow every time Roy is hit. Roy will charge at Mario at first, and will change directions if he misses. However, if Mario can bait Roy into hitting either wall, he will collide with it and become dizzy temporarily. Mario can take this chance to hit Roy by jumping on his head. He will then perform a shell attack, which Mario must avoid. After a moment, Roy will return and shoot a ball of magic, which Mario must also avoid. Roy will then charge again at a faster speed, and Mario must again bait him into ramming into a wall to stun him. Mario must jump on Roy's head three times before the key to the [[World 2 (New Super Mario Bros. 2)|World 2]] is released.

World 1-Castle is the castle of World 1 in New Super Mario Bros. 2. It is the first castle level in the game, filled with ropes and Lava Bubbles. The boss of the level is Roy Koopa.

Layout[edit]

First off, Mario needs to climb a rope on the ceiling while avoiding the moving spiked platforms and walls, and also Lava Bubbles and the lava. A ? Block containing a Super Leaf can be found next, followed by more Lava Bubbles and rope climbing. Rising and sinking platforms, Dry Bones and more Lava Bubbles then appears, followed by the checkpoint. A Coin Block, which can be changed into a Gold Block, can be found along with the ? Block containing the power-up. Mario will then have to rope-swing to the other platform. An area full of Thwomps comes after, and more rope-swinging, rising and sinking platforms, and Lava Bubbles. Another Super Leaf can then be found. Mario now has to rope-swing and avoid the Thwomps at the same time. A Big Thwomp then appears, followed by the boss door. A Super Leaf can be found in a hidden block to the right wall of the boss door.

Boss battle[edit]

Roy Koopa is the boss of this level. The boss battle plays out similar to his boss battle in Super Mario World, with the walls of the room slowly becoming narrower every time Roy is hit. Roy charges at Mario at first, and changes directions if he misses. However, if Mario can bait Roy into hitting either wall, he collides with it and become dizzy temporarily. Mario can take this chance to hit Roy by jumping on his head. While this makes it easier, Mario can also stomp him while he is charging with a well-timed jump. He will then perform a shell attack, which Mario must avoid. After a moment, Roy will return and shoot a ball of magic, which Mario must also avoid. Roy will then charge again at a faster speed, and Mario must again bait him into ramming into a wall to stun him. Mario must jump on Roy's head three times before the key to the World 2 is released.

Star Coins[edit]

  • Star Coin 1: Mario must drop down from the rope onto a sinking and rising platform to collect the first Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: After the last ceiling rope, there is a small section with a Dry Bones, two ? Blocks, and two Brick Blocks. Stand on the second ? Block and jump to reveal some hidden blocks. Climb them, move down the small hallway to get a Super Leaf, and fly into large group of floating coins to the right. The second coin is in this group.
  • Star Coin 3: The last Star Coin is under a platform near a Big Thwomp. The Big Thwomp has to hit two rows of Cement Blocks for Mario to get the last Coin. Alternatively, the Big Thwomp just needs to hit only one row of Cement Blocks and Mario to slide before the Big Thwomp hits him.
