- “Before we start, lets[sic] get a few things straight... you are racing for the pride of Team Kong, don't let us down... I did not suffer those interminable amounts of monotonous gameplay for you to blow it all now.”
- —Cranky, Diddy Kong Pilot (2003)
Team Kong is the first of three teams available in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, made up of four members of the Kong Family: Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, and Donkey Kong, all of whom have fairly well-rounded stats. It functions as the game's beginner mode and has the player go through the Klap Trap Kup, the Kritter Kup, the Klump Kup, and the K. Rool Kup. When playing as them, Cranky gives the team passive-aggressive advice and encouragement before and after races and boss battles against the members of Team Krem. When their grand prix is complete, Cranky states they were only successful because the Kremlings were even worse pilots and that the game was too easy. He then challenges the player to try to play through as one of the Kremlings for a more challenging experience, unlocking Team Krem for play.
Team Kong's title and menu theme shows jungle and palm tree scenery, and the team's logo features the word "Kongs" written in the typical Donkey Kong logo font with a pair of upward-pointing gold wings, which is also featured in the "Diddy Kong Pilot" version of the title screen.
In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is replaced with the Bottles GP, where Bottles takes Cranky's role as the character who speaks to the player. Unlike Team Kong's grand prix, it is not character-exclusive, but at the beginning the player will still only be able to use four default characters, in particular Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo, and Jinjo. All the cups are named after items from the Banjo-Kazooie series: the Honeycomb Cup, the Jiggy Cup, the Beehive Cup, and the Feather Cup.

- “What's going on? This is a disgrace! This is a Kong game, not a Kremling game... I don't see your name on the title page. My boys will put a stop to this insolence..”
- —Cranky, Diddy Kong Pilot (2003)
Team Krem is the second of three teams available in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, made up of four Kremlings: Kritter, Klap Trap, Klump, and K. Rool, most of which have highly specialized stats that are high in some respects but low in others. They are unlocked for play after completing Team Kong's grand prix, and are the intermediate difficulty mode, featuring the Dixie Cup, the Diddy Cup, the Funky Cup, and the Donkey Cup. All the tracks in their Grand Prix cups are reversed compared to Team Kong 's, as well as featuring its members as the bosses. When playing through as them, Cranky openly insults them and promises Team Kong will defeat them, becoming more worried every time Team Krem has a victory. When they beat all four of the bosses, Cranky reveals that in doing so they have won the right to the title screen, which is now labeled "Kremling Pilot."
Team Krem's title screen shows the same background as Temple Heat, with a blue-tinted rocky area intermixed with a few structures, a red sky, and bubbling lava at the bottom. Their menu theme shows a wrinkled red texture with rows of yellow spikes pointing downward from it, possibly based on scales or teeth. The team's logo features the world "Krem" in thick font with a lumpy green texture and red shadow over a horizontally oriented set of metallic blue wings, which also appears on their title screen.
In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is replaced with the Grunty GP, which is Gruntilda's attempt at making a grand prix after the Bottles GP is finished, and features Gruntilda taking Cranky's role of speaking to the player characters between races, which previously went to Bottles. Like with the Team Krem grand prix, all the tracks are reversed, though they also have sickly color tinting added to them. However, due to the game lacking the team aspect, it is not character-exclusive, and in fact the corresponding unlockable characters (Humba Wumba, Jolly Roger, Klungo, and Gruntilda herself) are instead acquired individually by defeating them as bosses in either the Bottles GP or the Grunty GP followed by purchasing the ability to use them from Cheato. All the cups are named after "spooky" objects fitting the witch theming: the Pumpkin Cup, the Cauldron Cup, the Skull Cup, and the Broomstick Cup.

- “Humbug! I've got to hand it to you kid, you can actually fly that thing... I think it's time for you to move on... If you want a real challenge, try racing in the CUPS with TEAM CRANKY... The others will really give you a race then...”
- —Cranky, Diddy Kong Pilot (2003)
Team Cranky is the third and final team available in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, being a one-person team of Cranky Kong, who has very good speed and control. The select screen shows four slots to select Cranky, though each is capable of performing four completely separate idle animations rather than simply different clippings of one like other characters. This team is unlocked by completing Cranky's Challenge on each course, both the standard versions from the Team Kong grand prix and the reversed ones from the Team Krem grand prix. It functions as the expert difficulty mode and goes through the same courses and bosses as Team Kong, being the Klap Trap Kup, the Kritter Kup, the Klump Kup, and the K. Rool Kup. After it is completed, the title screen is changed to read "Cranky Kong Pilot" and he says that it feels like "the end of an era," possibly referencing Rare's time with the Donkey Kong license ending.
Team Cranky's title screen shows clouds over the surface of the ocean, which Enguarde occasionally leaps from, while the menu theme shows the red girders from 25m with cobwebs between them. The team's logo shows the word "Cranky" in a wood-textured font over a set of brown, wood-and-fabric ornithopter-like wings and more cobwebs, which also appears on the title screen.
Team Cranky does not have a specific counterpart in the finalized Banjo-Pilot; instead, there are two separate extra grands prix called the Endurance GP, which involves consecutive races across all 16 non-reversed tracks, and the Jinjo GP, which pits the player against a grid of colorful Jinjos on six random tracks. Cranky himself is replaced with Bottles in both statistics and unlocking mechanism, albeit for the latter additionally requiring a purchase from Cheato.

Klap Trap Kup
- "Dixie Cup" redirects here. For the cup in Mario Kart Tour, see Dixie Kong Cup.
The Klap Trap Kup is the simplest cup in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, made up of four relatively basic courses. After all four are completed, the boss fight against Klap Trap becomes available, known as Boss Bop.
When Team Krem is unlocked, playing as them replaces the Klap Trap Kup with the Dixie Cup, which has reversed versions of the original courses. Dixie Kong is now fought in Boss Bop.
In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, the Klap Trap Kup becomes the Honeycomb Cup of the Bottles GP, while the Dixie Cup becomes the Pumpkin Cup of the Grunty GP. These versions are not character-exclusive.

Steamy Swoop is the first race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the first course of the Klap Trap Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Monkey Rift and is part of the Dixie Cup. The course takes place in a jungle with DK's Tree House visible in the background to the north and several palm trees as both obstacles and background decoration.
Layout
The course is made up of four right turns, the first being fairly sharp, the second being gentle, and the last two being rounded 90°. After the first turn, there are some large trees in the path, and after the second turn, a small side-path runs parallel to the main one. There is also a narrow portion between the third and fourth turns.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Spiral Mountain, the starting and tutorial location of Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. The background is also changed to depict Spiral Mountain and the surrounding areas as they appear in the first two games (with the undamaged ground from the first and the damaged entrance to Grunty's Lair from the second), with the tree obstacles also being changed to resemble the trees in the original location. Its reversed version, Spiral Mountain R, is given a pink tint with an olive-green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Spiral Mountain remains the first course, though it is depicted as a square shape. There is a bridge over a small river near the starting point, a small lake with a tall island forming a brief split in the path on the second corner, some savannah-style trees along the following straightaway, a rocky stump-filled area in the third corner, and a tall yellow grassy area on the fourth corner. The reversed version is purple-tinted and starts at the lake with the split path.

Plain Pursuit is the second race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the second course of the Klap Trap Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Plateau Patrol and is part of the Dixie Cup. The course takes place in a savannah region filled with trees, hills, and rock formations, though the road itself is mostly barren aside from occasional tracks of large footprints. Expresso also appears near the end as a stationary obstacle. Due to the low amount of obstacles and large amount of straight sections, racers can potentially reach their maximum speed on this course easily.
Layout
The course is shaped like a sideways trapezoid with several large straightaway sections throughout and the first obtuse curve being right after the starting line. The longest straightaway features two Zippers throughout its length. Expresso appears on the interior of the final curve, also an obtuse one.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Jinxy's Dunes; unlike many other courses, the name is original to this game. Visually, it is barely changed from its Diddy Kong Pilot appearance, with the only difference being the footprints now resembling those of theropod dinosaurs (either as a reference to the dinosaurs in Terrydactyland, which is also used as a plains course in this game, or intended to be from large birds). Despite the course's name, the character Jinxy does not factor into it. Expresso is still present, despite the Donkey Kong-specific assets being mostly removed otherwise. Its reversed version, Jinxy's Dunes R, is given a reddish-pink tint.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Jinxy's Dunes is instead the 13th course, being the first course in the fourth cup. Here, it is a desert filled with back-to-back turns and obstacles, with the starting line being right before a series of three reversing 180° turns. Large pyramids with different designs appear as obstacles in the middle of the path, and similar stepped brick walls appear alongside it. Several cactuses also appear as stationary obstacles. Its reversed version is given a bright pink tint with teal water, the starting line is moved to be directly before a pair of pyramids in the road, and the cactuses are replaced with tilted Donkey Kong Country-style palm trees.

Chilly Length is the third race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the third course of the Klap Trap Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Arctic Rumble and is part of the Dixie Cup. The course takes place in an icy sea area with many ice formations, orcas of various sizes, and a large ocean liner in the background. The background layer featuring the liner and mountains has red shading in Arctic Rumble, possibly due to mixing up its palette with that of Icy Passage.
Layout
The course features three 180° turns with long stretches between, with the starting line being between two of them. On the forward version of the course, two of these are cone through at the beginning and one at the end. To the north, there is also a horizontal path with 90° turns on both ends of it to connect both sides of the course. The turns, particularly the 180°, tend to have wider paths than the straightaways, especially the vertical stretches that are surrounded by water.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Freezeezy Peak, after a world in the original Banjo-Kazooie. It looks mostly the same, though the ship is replaced with the giant snowman from the original Freezeezy Peak, the ice on the road is slightly blue-tinted similar to Frosty Feud (along with featuring that course's water issue), and the vertical positioning of some Zippers has changed. Additionally, the "invisible wall" the player cannot cross in the water is now marked by a series of lavender squares on the surface. Its reversed version, Freezeezy Peak R, switches the pink sky for a yellow one.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Freezeezy Peak is instead the seventh course, being the third course in the second cup. Here, it is shaped loosely like a square with squiggle-shaped edges, features rock formations and snowdrifts leading to split paths and occasional shortcuts, and has evergreen trees and a smaller version of the snowman as stationary obstacles. The forward version starts facing north near the southwestern corner. The reversed version, which is tinted purple, starts facing south near the northwestern corner instead.

Magma Spurt is the fourth race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the fourth course of the Klap Trap Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Ember Trouble and is part of the Dixie Cup. The course takes place in a lava-filled temple with giant golden K. Rool statues along the east, north, and west sides and an opening to the south.
Layout
The course has a very angular shape, with wide roads near the beginning that thin down as the path progresses. Several short-but-wide bridges over lava are crossed. A jagged diagonal path is taken midway through the course. At the end, there is a brief split in the path with a small square of lava in the center.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Hailfire Peaks, after a world in Banjo-Tooie with a lava-based side and an ice-based side, though only the lava-based one appears here. The background is changed completely to instead be outside and show a range of volcanoes, previously used in the 2001 build of Diddy Kong Pilot. Additionally, the lava-based dragon from Speedy Show appears on the left directly before the diagonal section. Its reversed version, Hailfire Peaks R, has the ground and backdrop given a vibrant green tint as well as an olive-green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Hailfire Peaks is instead the twelfth course, being the fourth course in the third cup. Here, it is a round course going around a red volcano with gray walls surrounding it. There are three fields of tall volcanic stacks acting as obstacles. Several of the corners can be cut to skip portions of the course, one of which is marked with a sign displaying Sabreman's amulet (originally from Sabre Wulf). The forward version starts facing west on the southern edge of the course, while the reverse version, which features a yellow volcano with bright green lava, starts facing southwest on the northern edge. The reversed version also removes the amulet signpost.

Shore Strife is the fifth race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the first course of the Kritter Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Rapid Sands and is part of the Diddy Cup. The course takes place on a small tropical island with Donkey Kong Island visible in the background. Tilting palm trees similar to some of the ones seen in jungle courses appear as obstacles. Enguardes can be seen breaching in one segment.
Layout
The course is mostly a long, thin rectangle, aside from a protrusion of the path on the first corner. Most of the path is made up of thin sandbars with grass on the inner corners. The two sandy sections are connected by very long and thin wooden bridges; flying over the water rather than the bridges decreases the player's speed. A pair of these bridges appear side-by-side midway through the course, which is where Enguardes can be seen, and a single bridge appears at the end.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Treasure Trove Cove, after the second world in the original Banjo-Kazooie, a view of which now appears in the backdrop in place of Donkey Kong Island. Additionally, the palm trees are redesigned to no longer resemble Donkey Kong Country ones, though they also do not particularly resemble any palm trees from other Banjo-Kazooie games. Enguarde's cameo is replaced by the dolphins from Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, or the identical dolphin character Snorkel from the original Banjo-Kazooie. Its reversed version, Treasure Trove Cove R, has a pink tint on the land and a bright green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Treasure Trove Cove is instead the second course, and as such part of the first cup. Here, it is a round course with sand-covered cliffs, a stepped green brick wall along the eastern edge, and palm tree obstacles similar to those in the final game. Floating arrows mark invisible walls to keep the player from flying off the track on the oceanside parts. The final corner features an area over water with a large, spiral-ramped island in the middle splitting the path. The reversed version is tinted pink with teal water and starts near the brick wall.

Jungle Jostle is the sixth race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the second course of the Kritter Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Simian Field and is part of the Diddy Cup. The course takes place in a jungle like that of Steamy Swoop.
Layout
Jungle Jostle acts as a more difficult version of Steamy Swoop, with the width of the road varying often and trees dotting the sides. Shortly after the beginning there is a sharp right turn leading into a 90° left one, followed by a straight road to and back from a 180° right turn. After this are two more inverting 90° turns, after which the path starts splitting with tree-covered patches for the rest of the course. After a particularly sharp turn with a split path, the player crosses a bridge leading to the finish line.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Clanker's River. This location is original to the game, but uses a backdrop based on Clanker's Cavern from the original Banjo-Kazooie, though without a ceiling, contrasting with the natural appearance of the course itself. Clanker himself prominently appears in the backdrop. Additionally, the trees are changed to resemble the ones in the finalized version of Steamy Swoop, Spiral Mountain. The reversed version, Clanker's River R, is tinted blue with a dull green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Clanker's River is instead the fourth course, and as such part of the first cup. Here, it is shaped like a rounded X and is entirely over water, with some land appearing on the sides at the corners. Grass, flowers, stumps, and trees sometimes appear on these shorelines. Several large waterfalls also appear on the cliffsides, as well as during changes of elevation on the river. Clanker does not appear in this version, though Sabreman makes a cameo waving on a rock. In the forward version, the player starts facing north just past the southwestern corner. In the reversed version, which is tinted lavender and lacks Sabreman, the player starts facing east, also just past the southwestern corner.

Layout
The course is made up of right angles and shaped like the letter F, with the starting line being before the northwestern corner. In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Grunty Industries which is both a world in Banjo-Tooie and a sub-area of a different world, Freezing Furnace, in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. It is mostly the same, though the backdrop depicts buildings resembling parts of the Grunty Industries factory from Banjo-Tooie intermixed with other mechanical structures in front of distant red mountains, and the stone pillar obstacles are replaced with broken-off metallic lattice towers. A signboard displaying Sabreman's amulet (originally from Sabre Wulf) appears in the lava in the northeastern corner. The reversed version, Grunty Industries R, is covered by a green haze, with bright green-tinted map and background features and a yellow-green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, the course is instead named Lava Jetty, which is an adjacent section of Freezing Furnace to Grunty Industries in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. It is the fifth course, being the first course in the second cup. Here, it is mostly square-shaped aside from a short detour at the northwestern corner that can be skipped by flying over the short rock wall acting as a barrier. It is a volcano course over a river of lava, with rocks, open volcano craters, and fallen pillars inside. Lava-falls also appear along the edges. The forward version starts facing west directly before the southwestern corner, while the reversed version, which has yellow stone and bright green lava, starts facing north before the northeastern corner.

The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Savannah Air and is part of the Diddy Cup. The course takes place in a similar field location to Prairie Dash. Multiple Expressos of different sizes appear.
Layout
The course is a more advanced version of Prairie Dash. It has a gentle left turn shortly after the start leading into a right curve of over 180°, followed by a pair of gentle inverted curves. After this is a straightaway with Zippers, followed by a gentle right turn leading to another straightaway with a large and small Expresso next to each other. In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Gobi's Valley, after a world in the original Banjo-Kazooie. The background now depicts features from the original Gobi's Valley, such as pyramids, cactuses, and Jinxy the bear-faced sphynx (who is mentioned in the title of Prairie Dash's counterpart, Jinxy's Dunes, but not present there). The Expresso obstacles have been replaced with the camel character Gobi and are now a consistent size; because of this, one of the pair was moved to the course's first turn. Additionally, some more rock formations were added alongside the course, and the footprints on the course resemble paw and bird tracks. As with other courses, the vertical positioning on some interactive objects like Zippers has been adjusted to be more varied. The reversed version, Gobi's Valley R, has a green-tinted haze over both the foreground and background.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Gobi's Valley is instead the tenth course, being the second course in the third cup. Here, it has a similar overall shape to the final course, albeit shorter. Here, it has pyramids and other structures that can be flown around as well as a small oasis with a square island. The forward version starts with the player facing southwest directly before a small pyramid on a high peninsula on the southernmost turn, and a non-animated Gobi and a cactus appear as stationary obstacles shortly thereafter. The reverse version, which is tinted pink with green water, starts facing northwest in the northeastern section, directly before the island oasis which now features a dead tree as a stationary obstacle, with cactuses appearing later without Gobi.

The darker scenery causes the water graphics to be broken, as the part that is meant to display the lightest color instead displays the darkest.
Layout
The course is shaped like a large rectangle. On segments of the longer two sides, there are five rows in the path separated by rough areas. Flying along the rows allows racers to reach high speeds. Some rows have Zippers as well to further this.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Freezing Furnace, after a world in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. The course is almost identical to its appearance in Diddy Kong Pilot, though some of the background hills now have a slight pink tint, small lavender squares mark the threshold the player cannot fly past in the water, and Boggy makes a small appearance standing off the path near the southwestern corner. In the reversed version, Freezing Furnace R, the sky is a deep green.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, the course is instead called Chilly Chasm, which is the name of a sub-area of Freezing Furnace. It is instead the third course, and as such part of the first cup. Here, it has a track shape remarkably similar to Chilly Length and its finalized counterpart, Freezeezy Peak, which are also the ice-themed third courses in their respective version. Both of the south-facing 180° turns can be shortcut by flying over walls, and one features an igloo in the center. The course also features evergreen trees as obstacles as well as wooden bridges. The forward version starts facing south on the southeast side right before the igloo and has a small version of the snowman from Freezeezy Peak as an obstacle, while the reversed version, which is tinted purple, starts facing west on the north edge and features Boggy outside the igloo. Unlike in the final game where he is static, here Boggy is animated to wave.

Layout
The course features three separate large open areas dotted with grassy patches, several of which contain trees. The first is located after the starting line, with a gentle right turn between them. The next one is reached after a wide right turn of almost 180°, with another of the same being between the second and third. After another gentle right turn, the course leads back to the starting line. In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Mayahem Temple, after the first world in Banjo-Tooie. The background is changed to have features from its central area, including pyramids, Sput Sputs, broken walls, and a large stone gate with a skull marking. It is also the only course to feature Mumbo's Skull in the background, despite it appearing in many worlds throughout the series. Additionally, the trees have been changed to the same deciduous ones used in Spiral Mountain (changed from Steamy Swoop). Master Jiggywiggy makes a cameo as a stationary spectator to the left of the track on the curve between the first and second open areas. Its reversed version, Mayahem Temple R, has a faint lavender tint on the ground, a heavier one on the background, and a dark green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Mayahem Temple is instead the sixteenth and final course, and as such part of the fourth cup. Here, it shares all of its visual features with that build's version of Spiral Mountain, but with a complex layout full of consecutive 180° inversions. There are multiple areas with tall yellow flower patches, mud with large stumps, and rivers with waterfalls―one of which can be flown over as a shortcut. The forward version starts pointing west between an open hill area and a 90° left turn in the southeastern section, and features savannah-style tree obstacles; the reversed version, which is tinted pink, starts facing south before a 90° in the southwestern section, features more standard deciduous trees for obstacles, and has Tiptup make a cameo in the water in the northwestern section.

Layout
As with the other temple courses, the layout is made entirely of 90° turns, with the map of this course resembling a small square to the northwest and a larger rectangle to the southeast connected at the corners. The larger portion contains two sections where there are four thin stone bridges next to each other, with the first of these sections having the dragon to the west of the bridges. In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Steamy Vents, which unlike most courses in the game, is not named after any pre-existing location from any of the prior Banjo-Kazooie games. The background is changed to the same volcano range used in Hailfire Peaks (altered from Magma Spurt), though the rest of the visuals are the same as before. The reversed version, Steamy Vents R, has green roads and background and a deep purple sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Steamy Vents is instead the fifteenth course, being the third course in the fourth cup. Here, it has a far more complicated layout with several zigzags around rock formations and small volcanoes, though some of its obstacles can be flown over by going high enough. Some, however, are just high enough they can trap a player in rapid collisions if they go over them by going as high as possible. It has sets of gray walls that sometimes open up into a sea of lava, blocked off only by arrows marking invisible walls. Its forward version starts pointing north just after an open area with volcanoes on the western side, while the reversed version, which has yellow rocks and bright green lava, starts pointing north just after the opposite end of the same open area's eastern side.

After this, it goes through a zigzagging boardwalk with four 90° turns, beside which an orca breaches. After this, two 90° turns lead to an inversion going around a completely static Enguarde object stuck on its last frame of animation. Two more 90° turns lead to a wide boardwalk area covered in tents placed upon grassy patches, after which is the starting line.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed J. Roger's Lagoon, after a world from Banjo-Tooie (with its name abbreviated for space). Its background is changed to match the location it is named after, with both Jolly's tavern and Pawno's Emporium visible. The palm trees are replaced with the deciduous trees seen in Spiral Mountain (edited from Steamy Swoop), the broken Enguarde object is removed and not replaced with anything else, and all but one of the tents are replaced with the Beehive objects seen throughout the Banjo-Kazooie games, albeit without their usual eyes. The southeasternmost tent on the pier is instead replaced with a waving Sabreman. Its reversed version, J. Roger's Lagoon R, has a pink tint and a bright green sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Jolly Roger's Lagoon is referred to by its full name and is instead the eighth course, being the fourth course in the second cup. Here, it is surrounded by dunes and features several brown islands surrounded by moat-like water acting as obstacles. Additionally, a scuttled ship appears and is flown over, likely based on Captain Blubber's ship, The Salty Hippo. The forward version features palm trees resembling those from Diddy Kong Pilot as stationary obstacles and starts facing south between two of the large brown islands on the eastern side. The reversed version, which is tinted pink with teal water, features palm trees resembling the ones seen in Treasure Trove Cove (edited from Shore Strife) in the final game, a cameo from Master Jiggywiggy on the ship's poop deck, and starts facing east on the southern tip of the course.

Lava Dispute is the thirteenth race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the first course of the K. Rool Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Sanctum Shoot and is part of the Donkey Cup. The course takes place in a similar ruins area to Temple Heat, though it is full of holes. It is the only fourth version of a particular course type in the game (in this case, lava) to not be a battle course.
Layout
The course starts with two 90° left turns, leading into a large, open area covered in lava-filled holes in the ground. After this, the course travels in a southeasterly direction with more holes. Another 90° turn takes the course north, where after a straightaway the path briefly diverges between a wide area with more holes and a thin bridge path, before merging again reaching the starting line.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Witchyworld, after a world in Banjo-Tooie. The theming of the course has been heavily changed compared to Diddy Kong Pilot's course, though the layout, ground texture, and pillars remain. The lava and its bubbling have been recolored to a toxic green substance and the background is changed to show features from the central part of the Banjo-Tooie world, including the Big Top, Madame Grunty's Tent, the Tickets Cabin (seen from behind), and Salty Joe's Fries. The music is also changed, being the only course to do so, with the new music sounding similar to the theme of Mad Monster Mansion from the original Banjo-Kazooie; this theme is also used for the cutscenes featuring Gruntilda. Its reversed version, Witchyworld R, has an orange tint.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Witchyworld is instead the fourteenth course rather than the thirteenth one, though as such is still part of the fourth cup. Here, it uses a "graveyard" course type that is missing from both the final game and Diddy Kong Pilot, having tall hedges for walls that occasionally can be flown over and around for shortcuts, running fountains and hollow trees to act as obstacles, modeled green conical and spiraling objects resembling trees or crags, and rows of headstones in a few places. It has a somewhat square-shaped layout with wavy east and west sides. In the forward version, the player starts facing east in the middle of the northern edge. In the reversed version, which has fall colors and lacks the dead tree obstacles, the player starts facing east in the southwestern corner.

Frantic Beach is the fourteenth race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the second course of the K. Rool Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Coastal Chaos and is part of the Donkey Cup. The course takes place in a similar beach area to Shore Strife, though the forward version of the course takes place at twilight.
Layout
The course is fairly short by late-game standards. It features an early 90° turn to the right leading into a series of 90° zigzags to the southeast. Afterwards, there is a straight southern path with several palm trees of various sizes in the road. After two more 90° right turns, the course travels north, where the path sometimes zigzags around small island. Here, the player has the option to follow the path, which takes more distance, or fly across the islands, which reduces speed from flying over the sea. After this is the starting line.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Breegull Beach, after the second world of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. Here, the background shows a view of Treasure Trove Cove from the original Banjo-Kazooie, which is used as a backdrop for some other beach courses in the game as well. The palm trees are replaced with the deciduous trees used in Spiral Mountain (edited from Steamy Swoop). The reverse version, Breegull Beach R, features a pink tint.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Breegull Beach is instead the eleventh course, being the third course in the third cup. Here, it is shaped somewhat like a rounded capital H, though with a wide right side. Like the other beach courses in the prototype, it features green brick walls, sand dunes, and tall brown islands, as well as several areas going over water. It also features palm trees resembling those in Diddy Kong Pilot as stationary obstacles. In the forward version, the player starts facing south in the middle of the eastern side. The course takes place in a similar fields region to Plain Pursuit, but features many more rock formations as decorations and obstacles.
Layout
The course starts with a gentle right turn that leads into thin straightaway that becomes an S-curve with three inversions. After this, a pair of Expressos of different sizes appear, at which point the path splits, then crosses itself before re-merging, giving an 8-like shape. In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Terrydactyland, after the dinosaur-themed world in Banjo-Tooie. The background is changed to show features from the original world, the Expressos are removed without replacement, and the elephant- and hoof-like tracks have been replaced with theropod-like tracks; however, the lion-like paw prints are unaltered. The reversed version, Terrydactyland R, is tinted turquoise.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Terrydactyland is instead the sixth course, being the second course in the second cup. Here, it is depicted as a desert with many pyramids that can be flown around but lacks any visual dinosaur-theming. In the forward version, which additionally features a savannah-like tree for a stationary obstacle, the player starts facing southwest on a straightaway on the southeastern side. In the reversed version, which is tinted pink with teal water and features cactuses for stationary obstacles, the player starts facing southwest right before a left turn in the northwestern side.

Icy Passage is the sixteenth and final race course in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, as well as the fourth course of the K. Rool Kup. The reversed version seen when playing as Team Krem is instead called Tundra Tumble and is part of the Donkey Cup. The course takes place in a similar ice area to Chilly Length, though at twilight. In Tundra Tumble, the red lighting on the background layer with the ship and mountains is not present, having the opposite situation of the one in Chilly Length; this may have been a programming oversight. The course features many large turns with lengthy stretches between them, as well as ice formations and orcas in the background.
Layout
The course starts with a long straightaway leading to three large 180° inversions, followed by some 90° zigzags. After a thin point, the road widens out with some rough patches in the middle. After three more large inversions of varying angles, the course has another long straightaway leading back to the starting line.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Cauldron Keep, after the final world of Banjo-Tooie, despite it not originally being an ice-themed world. The ship has been replaced by the tower making up the original Cauldron Keep, with the Big-O-Blaster visible pointing out its window, and the ice making up the course uses the blue tint from Frosty Feud. The reversed version, Cauldron Keep R, has a purple-tinted sky.
In the 2004 voxel engine prototype of Banjo-Pilot, Cauldron Keep is instead the ninth course, being the first course in the third cup. Here, it uses a "graveyard" course type that does not appear in either Diddy Kong Pilot or the final Banjo-Pilot, featuring hedgerows that can be flown around for shortcuts, running fountains, conical and spiraling green structures resembling trees or rocks, and headstone rows. Its overall shape is somewhat similar to its final counterpart, though tilted 90° and with a few less turns. In the forward version, which contains a single dead tree as a stationary obstacle, the player starts out facing west in the middle of the southernmost portion. In the reverse version, which has fall colors, the fountain inert, and features multiple hollowed-out trees as obstacles, has the player start facing east in the same place. It is the only course in this build where the starting line is in the same general location for both directions.

Jungle Jig is the first of four arenas available in the multiplayer-exclusive "Battles" mode of the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot. It features the same jungle background and palm tree obstacles as Steamy Swoop and similar race courses, with DK's Tree House visible.
Layout
It is a mostly open area with four corner-shaped patches of grass arranged in a square shortly within its bounds, with a small square-shaped patch of grass in the center with four large palm trees using two designs. Like with race courses, the grassy areas cause the planes to sputter when flying over them. Along the north border, a lake can be seen.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Mumbo's Mountain, after the first world of the original Banjo-Kazooie. Despite this, it uses the same background as Spiral Mountain instead of showing the actual Mumbo's Mountain. The layout has changed compared to Jungle Jig, with there instead being a single large grassy patch in the shape of a plus sign in the middle, with the overall stage layout being about two-thirds the size of the original. The palm tree obstacles are replaced with the umbrella acacia-like flat-canopy trees seen in plains-themed tracks, with one being on each of the plus-shape's protrusions and two being in the intersection. Tiptup makes a cameo as a stationary stage object on the right side of the arena. In order to access the arena in this game, it must be purchased from Cheato for 100 of his pages. As with all the "dogfight" mode courses in this game, the boss fight music is used.

Sunset Scrap is the second of four arenas available in the multiplayer-exclusive "Battles" mode of the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot. It features a similar prairie area to Plain Pursuit.
Layout
The course is shaped like a radially symmetric cross, with thin paths leading between small, ring-shaped areas surrounding rough ground with obstacles in the center. The one at the middle of the cross instead features two trees and some barrels for items, which can also be found along the paths. The others feature muddy ground with various rock formations: a tall stack to the north, a wide arch to the east, a slanted crag to the south, and a squared bluff to the west.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Temple Tussle, despite no temple being present. Unlike most courses in the game, this is not named for a pre-existing location in any other Banjo-Kazooie game. The layout has been changed dramatically, now being made up of two slightly larger circular areas connected by a slightly shorter path (evening out to roughly the same distance as the original's between the circular areas' respective midpoints). Due to the outer areas not being able to be flown across, the small path is the only way to cross between the large circles. In the middle of each circle is a grassy smaller circle of roughly the same size as those of the original's, now each with trees growing in them (two on the west, three on the east), and surrounding each of the larger circles is a grassy plain dotted with cubic bluffs. In order to access the arena in this game, it must be purchased from Cheato for 100 of his pages. As with all the "dogfight" mode courses in this game, the boss fight music is used.

Ice Escapade is the third of four arenas available in the multiplayer-exclusive "Battles" mode of the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot. It features a similar icy area to Chilly Length.
Layout
The course is shaped like a large square, with the roads only making up the outline of it and the corners featuring small ring shapes with untextured water in the center; the water here can be flown over without impairment, making it similar to roads. Each of the ice pools has a unique feature in it: The southwestern one has a cube-shaped ice formation, the northwestern one has a crumbling ice formation, the northeastern one has a nodding orca, and the southeastern one has a breaching orca. The interior of the square is mostly rough terrain, with water also being used on the eastern section; unlike the pools, this water is textured near the road, but not further away. Additionally, the player cannot fly all the way across the interior of the square, as it functions as an out-of-bounds area and thus pulls the player back towards the road.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Arctic Blast. Unlike most courses, this is not a name from any other Banjo-Kazooie game. The ship in the background has been replaced with the giant snowman from Freezeezy Peak, and a yellow line appears along the horizon. The layout is overall very similar to Diddy Kong Pilot's, though the length of paths between the circular sections is compacted. The oddities involving untextured water and the water not causing sputtering are still present, with purple tiles added in the water to mark the invisible wall leading outside the course. The ice formation in the southwestern pool is now positioned slightly outside the course, possibly as an oversight after the course was shrunk down, and Boggy makes a cameo as a stationary spectator just north of the northeastern section. In order to access the arena in this game, it must be purchased from Cheato for 100 of his pages after completing the Bottles GP (equivalent to the Team Kong GP in Diddy Kong Pilot). As with all the "dogfight" mode courses in this game, the boss fight music is used.

Beach Brawl is the fourth and final of the arenas available in the multiplayer-exclusive "Battles" mode of the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot. It features a similar beach area to Shore Strife.
Layout
The course is shaped like a large skull and crossbones, with the eyes and mouth being watery areas. A square patch of boardwalk wood is found in the northeastern and southwestern sections, while a similar patch of grass appears in the northwestern and southeastern sections. Tilted palm trees are also dotted throughout the area. Due to a glitch, the entire northwestern "bone" is treated as water and thus causes planes to sputter with blue particle effects when it is flown over. Additionally, the grass patch there has a shadow for a palm tree in its center, but no tree in that spot.

In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is renamed Rusty Bucket Bay, after a world in the original Banjo-Kazooie; however, the backdrop shows a different world from the same game, the beach island of Treasure Trove Cove, rather than the polluted harbor. The palm trees are redesigned to be less Donkey Kong Country-inspired, as with other beach courses in the game. The overall shape of the course is the same, though the sandy portions of the skull shape and the length of the bones are slightly compacted. The trees are also positioned slightly differently to account for this. The glitch with the upper left section being treated as water is fixed, though the treeless shadow is still present, despite the actual trees no longer having shadows after being moved. In order to access the arena in this game, it must be purchased from Cheato for 100 of his pages after completing the Grunty GP (equivalent to the Team Krem GP in Diddy Kong Pilot). As with all the "dogfight" mode courses in this game, the boss fight music is used.

Boss Race
Boss Races are the final challenge of each cup in the unpublished 2003 iteration of Diddy Kong Pilot. Despite their name, they are not races at all, but rather one-on-one air battles in a straight line between a group of balloons. Each battle alternates between two segments: the boss flying ahead of the player, occasionally dropping obstacles while being vulnerable to the player's bullets; and the player flying ahead of the boss and needing to dodge the boss's bullets. In both sections, there are two sets of three barrels that the player can use to gain items, though in the sections where the boss is ahead, they can grab them first to restock the obstacles they drop. All items except the blue Buzzes can be gained, though both TNT Barrels and Wrench Barrels simply act as a fixed amount of damage against the boss, and pink Buzzes and Zingers are only obtained in the respective section where they can be useful (boss-ahead and player-ahead, respectively).
When boss characters drop obstacles, the amount they drop also determines the rate they drop them, with small amounts having more time before the next one is dropped and larger amounts being dropped in quick succession. Early bosses only start dropping after reaching the barrels, though later ones instead start dropping a few moments after the battle begins.
Progression
The names and appearances of the Boss Races are shared between a cup's counterpart regardless of the team who is being played as. For example, both the Klap Trap Kup and the Dixie Cup feature "Boss Bop" as their boss race.

In Banjo-Pilot
The system works the same in the finalized Banjo-Pilot, though they are now referred to as Final Races and each stage has its own name based on the boss character. Despite this, the appearances are still shared between cups' counterparts between the Bottles GP and the Grunty GP. In these, the boss character is not immediately in front of the player character, unlike in Diddy Kong Pilot, with them instead rushing past them from behind a few seconds after the battle begins. As such, the bosses that start attacking before reaching the collectible items now do so immediately after appearing rather than waiting a few moments ahead of the player character.

Twilight over Magma Mainland. The opponent drops anywhere between eight to ten obstacles in a row even before appearing on-screen, though the first in the battle is always four (with the first being done before it can hit the player) and the last before the view switch is always eight. |
In the 2004 voxel engine build of the game, a much different system is used, requiring flying over an endless hilly area and finding four red Notes and bringing them to a star-ring in the center before the opponent does the same with the blue notes found in the same places, being somewhat similar to Fire Mountain in Diddy Kong Racing. However, the mode is highly unfinished, as the opponent does not even spawn, the Notes are often placed in odd rows and clusters, and the landscape is prone to glitches; large 2-dimensional slabs randomly jut into the sky and the hills themselves lack collision. Additionally, Bottles mentions his brother Jamjars appearing with a platoon of soldiers to prevent the notes from being taken; while both Jamjars and the soldiers have sprites visible in the debug menu's sprite viewer, they are also unimplemented. Meanwhile, the challenge for the Pumpkin Cup (ostensibly against Jolly Roger) does not feature the Notes at all, instead having the player fly through a chain of Zippers with a blue palette, turning them red, and finishing the stage when they are all flown through.

Notes
- In both Diddy Kong Pilot and Banjo-Pilot, some of the islands in the ocean backdrop resemble Donkey Kong Island. They likely were not removed from the final due to their small size and bird's-eye angle making it difficult to tell, compounded by the cloud layer covering them most of the time.

Character comparisons
Most character planes in Diddy Kong Pilot are reused for other characters' planes in Banjo-Pilot, sometimes with differences in color. The exception is Funky Kong and Banjo's planes, which do not particularly resemble each other; the latter instead resembles a mildly edited version of the plane used for Donkey Kong and Bottles. Below, Diddy Kong Pilot characters are ordered as they are in the team select menus due to four of the unlockable characters being unlocked at once. Banjo-Pilot characters are ordered as they are individually able to be unlocked, which does not correspond to their menu placement due to Jolly Roger, Gruntilda, and Bottles's icon positions being shifted so Gruntilda appears before Klungo and Jolly Roger appears on the end. Note that the "weight" stat in Diddy Kong Pilot is replaced with a "handling" stat in Banjo-Pilot, which for the most part have a negative correlation with each other.
