- “Before we start, lets[sic] get a few things straight... you are racing for the pride of Team Kong, don't let us down... I did not suffer those interminable amounts of monotonous gameplay for you to blow it all now.”
- —Cranky, Diddy Kong Pilot (2003)
Team Kong is the first of three teams available in the unpublished 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, made up of four members of the Kong Family: Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, and Donkey Kong, all of whom have fairly well-rounded stats. It functions as the game's beginner mode and has the player go through the Klap Trap Kup, the Kritter Kup, the Klump Kup, and the K. Rool Kup. When playing as them, Cranky gives the team passive-aggressive advice and encouragement before and after races and boss battles against the members of Team Krem. When their grand prix is complete, Cranky states they were only successful because the Kremlings were even worse pilots and that the game was too easy. He then challenges the player to try to play through as one of the Kremlings for a more challenging experience, unlocking Team Krem for play.
Team Kong's title and menu theme shows jungle and palm tree scenery, and the team's logo features the word "Kongs" written in the typical Donkey Kong logo font with a pair of upward-pointing gold wings, which is also featured in the "Diddy Kong Pilot" version of the title screen.
In the finalized Banjo-Pilot, it is replaced with the Bottles GP, where Bottles takes Cranky's role as the character who speaks to the player. Unlike Team Kong's grand prix, it is not character-exclusive, but at the beginning the player will still only be able to use four default characters, in particular Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo, and Jinjo. All the cups are named after items from the Banjo-Kazooie series: the Honeycomb Cup, the Jiggy Cup, the Beehive Cup, and the Feather Cup.
