Trivia is long[edit]

It is. Shouldn't the minigame puns be somewhere else?User:Mechayoshi

Mario Party 8[edit]

Some of this just seems like fan dreams. Pauline? I'm fixing this up for now, but uhh. Feel free to correct me. Evan

I have seen no evidence of a Mario Party 8 (yet) where is this info coming from? -- Sir Grodus

It has been confirmed now that there will be a Mario Party 8 in 2007. It's even at IGN! Paper Jorge ( Talk·Contributions·) Paper Jorge was here at... 19:34, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

Mario Party 8 is currently the Mario Party game with most playable characters (both starter and secret characters), which is a total of fourteen characters. However, Mario Party 10 has a chance of breaking this record. Reply if Mario Party 10 has been released, and count the number of playable characters there. If more than 15, reply to me that Mario Party 10 is now breaking the most playable characters record. 09:10, 28 August 2014 (EDT)

:Actually i realized that there are 15 characters in Mario Party 8 if it counts Miis for the Extra Mode. My IP is 05:24, 29 August 2014 (EDT) but i am the same person.

Confirmed? Proof? Paper Jorge

I just got my issue of NP today. That's what it said. Phoenix Rider

The boxart was found at Paper Jorge

[1] I'm confused. Are names supposed to be linked once in the article and once in a pic? --Yoshi626A Yoshi's Egg in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. 23:21, 2 January 2007 (EST)

Names are only supposed to be linked once in the whole article. Paper Jorge

But what about this? Donkey Kong is linked twice. --Yoshi626A Yoshi's Egg in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. 18:27, 3 January 2007 (EST)
  • Yea Game and Character. There different. WarioLoaf (talk)
    • Why would this apply to characters, but not games? --Yoshi626A Yoshi's Egg in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. 15:19, 4 January 2007 (EST)

Blooper's Appearance[edit]

Does anybody know if blooper appearance will be the standard blooper pictured in the blooper article or gooper blooper?I Hope It's the standard blooper.--Fg 18:56, 16 January 2007 (EST)

Currently it's a normal Blooper. Paper Jorge

Yoshi Pic[edit]

Could somebody please add a pic of Yoshi, there is just about everyone except him. YoshiFan 23:42, 3 February 2007 (EST) A Yoshi-loving user

What about Blooper, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, and Birdo. There aren't any pics for them either.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom 424.png--

I always thought that this was the Yoshi art... --YellowYoshi398 23:50, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Well, I did not know about it. YoshiFan 23:53, 3 February 2007 (EST) A confused fan of Yoshi.

I can't say that I'm even sure right now... I'm pretty sure that image was referred to as the Yoshi art when it was in use, but I've also noticed that it's on that Nintendo Monopoly board, which came out two years ago. Mario Party 8 still isn't even out yet, which gives me doubts... Paper Jorge uploaded it; maybe he knows. --YellowYoshi398 23:59, 3 February 2007 (EST)
Never mind. He must know; he's added it to the article. Thanks, Paper Jorge! --YellowYoshi398 00:00, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Candy Names![edit]

I heard from a website (once again, forgot. Sorry!) that the Vampire and Airplane candies were called Wingo and Whirlo candies, respectfully. Should I add those names or wait until it's confirmed? User: Maxlover2

Wait, as you can't site a source. -- Son of Suns

It's confired! It says so in Nintendo Power. A sprite of Mayor Penguin from Paper MarioPaper Jorge

confired? what's that? Maxlover2 20:22, 19 February 2007 (EST) I'm confused. really. did you mean confirmed?

Yeah, I think he did.Smileymiley5001

Character Artwork[edit]

Does anybody know where they got the artwork for the characters in mario party 8, and why didn't you add birdo, dry bones, hammer bro., blooper?--Fg 16:22, 15 February 2007 (EST)

My guess is because they're unlockable, and Nintendo doesn't release artwork of unlockable characters. Phoenix Rider

But, it shows Birdo and Dry Bones in the character selection screen in a movie on YouTube. YoshiFan

Regardless, where did those images come from? --Stumpers

I said Nintendo doesn't release artwork of unlockable characters. Youtube lets anything on. Phoenix Rider

Actually, your wrong Monty Mole. In Mario Kart DS, they released artwork for every character, including unlockable ones. How about Super Smash Bros. and Melee, StarFox Command, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and I'm sure theres more. However, I do not think that there is artwork for MP8. Possibly though. And yes, I would like to know where you got the artwork. --Bentendo 17:11, 5 March 2007 (EST)

Wait a minute! i saw on wikipedia on the Mario Party 8 page they showed the character selection and it had Birdo and Dry Bones there and two ? marks for Blooper and Hammer Bro! (P.S They have deleted it for some reason. By the way my username is [Super Yoshi 10])

Mario Party 8 Gets a Make-over[edit]

There is a new version of the boxart of Mario Party 8. Go to your nearest GameStop or EB Games to see it: It has only Mario and Luigi with the carnival background. No other characters. Dang, and you thought the old boxart was bad? Silent but deadly! SuperLuigi821 You lost everything. Way to go genious.

Umm...anyone care to find the newboxart? Silent but deadly! SuperLuigi821 You lost everything. Way to go genious.
  • Dang, I can't find the new box art anywhere...are you sure it's official? I bet it's just store made... User: Fixitup
No idea if it's storemade but you can find it at EB Games/Gamespot. Silent but deadly! SuperLuigi821 You lost everything. Way to go genious.

Samantha Kelly acted as Peach for this game. (And maybe Toad and Toadette but this uncomfirmed.)Princess Butterfly 15:29, 17 November 2007 (EST)

May I have some proof, please. My Bloody Valentine

Team Names[edit]

Are they really neccesary? My Bloody Valentine

The only way I'd include them is a table, I've tried to implement one, but there are just too many characters. So I don't really see a place for them. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 06:25, 21 November 2007 (EST)
I mean, do they really have to be here at all? My Bloody Valentine
That's what I was saying: Either as a table, or not at all. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 06:27, 21 November 2007 (EST)
Oh, OK. I think we should get more opinions before we remove the list. My Bloody Valentine

Yes, they are nessecary because for me, they are a very important part of the game. Even more important than the Star Battle. Yeah. All I do is Tag Mode with my friends. Smileymiley5001 P.S. I mean this with no offense at all.

At then end of Mario party 8 when the credits roll the person whom play as Peach it show Sam Kelly I didn't see Ms. Mills. Princess Butterfly 15:19, 24 November 2007 (EST)

I agree 'bout the table the teams names would look better in a table. Princess Butterfly 16:06, 25 November 2007 (EST)

Needs Improvements[edit]

Maybe it's just me, but this whole article sounded more like an opinional review with terms like "cool new boards" and such; but I fixed the most noticable problems there. The problem is, the article needs to be overlooked and tweaked. I found little errors everywhere, such as the use of 'you' instead of 'player' and incomplete sentences. It isn't that bad, but for how long the game's been out, someone should overlook this and do minor edits here and there. I do not own the game and don't want to do anymore than I have to. General Kelt

I actually gotta agree. Giratinabylydarioss8.jpgPalkia47Palkia.png Dialga.png I don't have the game either. And I don't wanna do it, since I just got into a "Flame War" someplace, so I'm kinda feeling bad...
Hope you feel better bud. Remember, it's just on online fight with someone sitting at their computer and shouldn't be capable of hurting you in any way, even if it does cause emotional pain. General Kelt
Good point. Giratinabylydarioss8.jpgPalkia47Palkia.png Dialga.png Thanks.

Fact or Opinion?[edit]

In this sentence: "The game is more notable than its prequels for its strong use of the Wii Remote in minigames.", is that a fact or an opinion? Giratinabylydarioss8.jpgPalkia47Palkia.png Dialga.png

That seems like more of a fact because it explains why it would be more notable. MisterJaffffeyPeteyPiranhaBanana.gif G0 Mario Party 8

Candy Names[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to ask if Thrice is a real word. For example "Thrice Candy" Is in the game. Answers Please! User:Mariofan459 11:00, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

Yes, though it's dated. Time Questions 11:20, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

Critical Reception Section?[edit]

Is that really necessary?

BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C)

I don't think many other articles on here have one, so I don't think it is. --Turkishcoffee 01:47, 5 April 2010 (EDT)

I do think so. Such sections fit perfectly into an encyclopedia. Time Questions 06:20, 5 April 2010 (EDT)
It's always good to have "real world" information about a game, including development and reception. More articles would need that. At least four of the featured game articles have a reception section. But the bad about this article's section is that I don't see any citations. --Grandy02 07:12, 5 April 2010 (EDT)
Both of those are really good points. --Turkishcoffee 08:12, 5 April 2010 (EDT)

Why do we have a puns section? I thought it was the minigame section at first >:( I think its completly irrelevant. To put it in a polite way, I don't think many people care about puns. 22360415-149x149-0-0 ++The+SpongeBob+SquarePants+Movie.jpg Boo der dash 180px-MaskedDedede.png

Actually, the puns section probably shouldn't be there since each mini-game page states what the game name pun is. =/ Garlic Stapler (talk)
But do people want to go to each mini-game page to see it? No. Besides, it's trivia. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
It's Trivia for the individual mini-games though, not the game in general. We don't list the name origins of areas & enemies and whatnot in other game articles either, even if they're puns, and it seems rational to me to expect someone to visit a subject's article if they want to know details like this about the subject.--vellidragon 18:37, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

It should be because it's trivia about the minigames. That's my point of view anyway. Smileymiley5001

I'd like to point out that very few of the listed entries are actually puns. Most of them are simply references and double entendres. Twentydragon 06:50, 10 December 2011 (EST)

Team name chart[edit]

Is there any way to fix the team name chart so it doesn't expand the page width? YoshiwakerTyranitar.png

Why did they have Kamek say spastic?[edit]

The word "spastic" is technically not a bad word, but the UK would say it's highly offensive. Not all people that play it are made fun of because their disability, but Kamek's not referring to a disabled person, but a train!?!? I probably say that he's referring to the train not a disabled person due to the fact that if he made fun of a disabled it would get a T, M or AO by the ESRB. ==Unshy Guy==(Talk)

Yes he was talking about the train, but the word is still considered offensive no matter who it is aimed at. Yoshi876 (talk)

Team names[edit]

Blooper and Hammer Bro's Team Columns are swapped, because Bloopsie-Daisy doesn't have anything to do with Hammer Bro. Davey (talk)

Star Battle and Duel Battle[edit]

There are a lot of sections in this article that say, "This is exclusive to Star Battle" when it is also in a regular Duel Battle. Shouldn't this be changed to "This is exclusive to Duel Battle"? After all, Star Battle is just six Duel Battles and a Boss Battle. -YoshiFlutterJump (talk) 17:58, 18 April 2017 (EDT)

I haven't played the game in a while, so my memory may be fuzzy, but I remember some things being exclusive to Star Battle and some being exclusive to Duel Battle. Regardless, if it's in two different modes, then the information is incorrect and should be corrected/removed. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:37, 18 April 2017 (EDT)
Okay. I just need to play a Duel Battle to make sure, then I will fix it. Thanks! -YoshiFlutterJump (talk) 18:41, 18 April 2017 (EDT)

MP8 - Save file icon[edit]

Why does the save file have different icons? Revilime (talk) 10:32, 26 July 2017 (EDT)

50 Hz[edit]

I noticed that my copy of the game only supports 50Hz. Do we know if this is applied to all copies of the game or just some versions, and if the game only runs in 50 Hz should this be mentioned in the article? Trainer Alex (talk) 13:23, 30 July 2018 (EDT)

From my knowledge, Japanese and American versions use the 60Hz signal, while European versions generally use 50Hz. This particular game, though, slows down gameplay a teensy bit in 50Hz, which can make some scenes out-of-sync with the music; particularly the introduction scene to Paint Misbehavin'. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 14:32, 30 July 2018 (EDT)
Yes, I actually noticed that the "Very Hard" CPUs tend to perform worse in certain minigames on my copy than they do in YouTube footage of the NTSC version (I have PAL). My theory is that since only 50 inputs can be made in the PAL version, this forces the Very Hard CPUs to not perform as well on minigames that are affected by this. Trainer Alex (talk) 15:29, 30 July 2018 (EDT)
Interesting. I've never fought any Very Hard CPUs on Mario Party 8 before. This should definitely be noted in the article, but I'm not sure where it should be placed. Maybe inside a Regional differences section. Let's see what other users think about this first, though. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 16:23, 30 July 2018 (EDT)

Controversy Section[edit]

I'm just wondering, if the controversy section doesn't belong on the main page, where exactly should it go? Just because it's historical information doesn't necessarily mean it shouldn't be covered on the Wiki somewhere. MarioComix (talk) 21:10, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

We have a page for just that, which already mentions Mario Party 8 on it. Tosai "Fret" Furesawa Swallow Rindo Kanade 21:13, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
To be honest I have to agree with MarioComix here, I see no reason why it shouldn’t be mentioned on this page considering this is the game it’s about. Unless of course there was some discussion on the forums and/or discord about this that I don’t know about :P Somethingone (talk) 21:24, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
I must admit that it does still seem like the sort of thing that would be suitable for this page, but I just wanted to mention the controversy page's existence. Tosai "Fret" Furesawa Swallow Rindo Kanade 21:40, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
Okay, as long as the information was still moved somewhere (i.e. to the controversy page, which I didn't know existed). And whether we want to briefly touch upon the controversy on this page and then link to the relevant section on the controversy page is a different question to ask that probably needs something consistent decided upon throughout the Wiki. MarioComix (talk) 00:27, July 15, 2021 (EDT)
Well now it’s back on the main page and I have to ask, why was it removed in the first place? Somethingone (talk) 21:59, July 15, 2021 (EDT)
