Wanderingshadow, you can go ahead and put infoboxes in most of the games, if you wish. Just, make sure you can fill out most of the information before creating the infobox, as an empty one is useless and takes up space. You can find the infobox's wikicode on some of the more popular game pages, such as Super Mario World.

Cameos

Referencing a Source and other issues

Hey everyone. I recently updated the Game Boy Advance section with more games that had been missing. Some of them had pages already, such as King of Swing and WarioWare #1, as an aside. Perhaps we should list out all of the games all the time for when someone gets around to making a page? For example, I just happened to notice that Yoshi's Topsy-Turvy wasn't on the list after I made the page. I don't think everyone would notice that, but that's just me.

More importantly, I got the new games from a list at [nindb.classicgaming.gamespy.com Nintendo Data Base], a fan site. Should we source them or not? I guess it could be "common knowledge" for Mario buffs like us ;) so it might not matter. In any case, where should we site the site if we do? Should we take away my changes and use some official source? -Stumper

The game and watches appear to be missing. Why? Apart from that, the list seems very short, and a short list of mario games needs a lot of work to become a complete list.

Mario Kart Wii

The Mario Kart Wii article has already been deleted. There is no confirmation whatsoever about this game. It is only because someone thought that each Nintendo console system has already a Mario Kart game, so why not the Wii, too? It is, basically, fanon. Release Dates

The list uses the U.S. release dates, but I don't think that this is a good idea. It causes chronological errors, plus there are readers who aren't from the USA. I think always the original date should be used, regardless of region, it's the only consistent way because there is no region where all games had been released. Other games

List is messed up

It seems that the list has been messed up by some users. The article still tells that all releases are the first releases regardless of region, but the opposite is the case. In a lot of cases, the North American release date is used. :-( --Grandy02 07:19, 14 September 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, and another thing about the dates that I had noticed from a while back, is that alot have them, and a lot don't. Should we keep adding until we're full, or simply remove the dates? There are some games that are completely in the wrong year or completely missing, for example Game & Watch Gallery 2 should be under 1998 not 1997, and Game Boy Gallery released in 1995 isn't even there.

What year is wrong? G&WG2 was first released in Japan in 1997, so it is listed under that year (but now also in 1998 since the GBC version was released then). The games are listed by original release date, regardless of region. One region isn't more important than the other ones. The original Game Boy Gallery isn't there because not any Mario character appears in it, Mario and his name were removed from the only Mario-related game, (Mario's) Cement Factory. Sorry for the extremely late reply, but it's somewhat confusing, because the Game & Watch Gallery series (including the Game Boy Gallery) have different names in different countries. For example, Game & Watch Gallery 2 is known as Game Boy Gallery 2 in Japan, and Game Boy Gallery 3 in Australia. There was also a GWG2 in North America for the GB, AND GBC (known in Australia as Game Boy Gallery 2, AND Game Boy Gallery 3 respectively, I believe). Title

Should this remain at the title is was recently moved to? I find it rather inaccurate, as the article doesn't only cover the main Mario series, but also other Mario-related series.--vellidragon 17:49, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm confused now. "Moving back as per discussion on talk page"; if that moving reason refers to this discussion, my point was that the page shouldn't be at "...Mario series games..." (which was the title at the point I wrote my comment) as it doesn't only cover the Mario series (but also Super Smash Bros. etc.). List of Mario games by date is the same as List of Mario series games by date, so there would be no reason to move it to the other. List of games by date implies that it is a list of all games ever. Change layout

Since Porplemontage is probably never talking to me again, I'm just going to randomly put this idea in the discussion board. I think we should change the layout of this list to have it look like the other 2 game lists, meaning having the games in boxes. Or 1 giant box. The whole point of this list is to list all the games but in the order they were released, so I don't think boxes would really be necessary here. Three more flash games I found.

I recently downloaded Flashpoint to continue playing flash games, and while browsing, I found three flash games that were officially developed by Nintendo. The first one was made for the release of Mario Party 4, and actually plays like a Mario Party game. It's even on Speedrun.com. The second game is Mario Trivia, a short trivia game featuring 3 sets of 10 questions, each with different difficulty. I can also say that the earliest this game was published was 2010, because one of the questions mentions the Super Mario Bros. 25th anniversary, which was in 2010. the final game is called Mario Party 7 Bon Voyage quiz. As you can guess, it is a short trivia game themed around Mario Party 7. It has 5 questions, which you have to get right to win. Yeah. I used Flashpoint, which is an archive of nearly 70,000 flash games and 8,000 flash animations. I downloaded it back when Flash's EOL date was coming closer. Once it's done downloading and you have it open, you will see a search bar at the top. To find the games, search "Mario Party 4," "Mario Trivia," and "Mario Party 7." Request for edit reversion

User:Platform recently made an edit removing most of the Game & Watch games from the list. I don't think that they should have been removed, as they all have their own wiki page here (e.g. Ball, Vermin). Could somebody please revert that edit? Or Platform, if you're seeing this, could you please explain why you feel those games don't belong in the list? Change table of years

Hello, I think it would be a better idea if the table of years at the top and bottom of this article were changed so that each row was a decade, with everything being lined up as seen in the example table below (obviously it shouldn't be a table but rather just lines of each year):

Would be much helpful if this article listed the specific day a game is released on

There was a discussion above. Regional release dates, if we can even squeeze those in, would also be helpful. But while this page is useful for all the chronology this wiki demands, from history sections to gallery, it really needs the day and month information especially when you're trying to match up the dates with non-game works like publications and movie releases. It also will help to also verify the chronology of this list, see if it's actually in correct order. A table here will work pretty well IMO. It's me, Mario! Limits?

This list is missing a lot of games, depending on what you consider a video game. List of games goes as far as saying that screenless roulette machines, vending machines, tabletop pinball games and even water games count as video games. I would add those since they are on the list after all, but everywhere else on this wiki doesn't seem to mention them anywhere. Such as the "List of appearances" sections on character pages not mentioning them. So am I allowed to add those to the list? Rykitu (talk) November 17th, 2024

Add browser games

Add browser games 7-1
Per my other proposals on browser games. All that differentiates these games from the other games on the list is their platform (Adobe Flash, Shockwave, Play-by-email, Java, and HTML). They're each still video games, just a lot shorter than the other ones on the list. (Sometimes by a lot. The WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! one takes, like, ten seconds to complete.) For consistency, I believe these should all be added to the list - minus the Play Nintendo activities, as those would require a separate proposal.

I am unsure if this warrants a proposal.

The Oppose List

SGoW (talk) Considering the list of games article currently lists over 100 web games, I'd rather not flood this page with a bunch games that barely actually count as games and do not matter to the mario franchise in the grand scheme of thing. Without having them split off into their own category like on the list of games article, it will make this page much harder to sort through and read, and therefore also just less useful as a page.

The Comments List

@SGoW: As someones who've been using this page a lot as we sift through tables, all we're saying is, we reckon the ship of "oh, games that are more dubious in their inclusion would make this hard to navigate" has sailed since the day we included ports, resulting in 18 bespoke links to Donkey Kong. Believe us, web games would be a drop in the bucket compared to ports, and honestly wouldn't even really impact things that much. I certainly would not consider 100+ additional entries a "drop in the bucket". Mainly I just do not believe the wiki should consider web advergames to be on par with actual Mario games in most contexts. It is a valuable distinction to make for a media franchise that uses video games as it's primary medium. The Super Mario (series) page is an example of somewhere else I have this problem, treating a watch as if it's as relevant to the series as Yoshi's Island feels like a joke to me, and yet it is a stance that has been portrayed on that page. I cannot find any evidence of these games existing on the internet. Multiple search engines turn up dead ends, and this wiki's own search function only returns the little footer listing every arcade game on other arcade articles. I added these games on this list alongside all the other ones from the "List of games" page that weren't listed on this article. All three of them were given a reference to this scan from a magazine, which show these arcade games on the top-right of the left page. The fact that this is the only evidence we have of these arcade games' existence could mean that they were never released, or at least only a few of them were produced. I've looked closer into the advertisement you've provided, and I can see some things. These machines appear to be similar to gachapon machines that dispense random items, in this case for a company of stationery called ぶんぐっず. Specifically the three machines are (left to right) for notebooks (ノート), erasers (けしゴム) and pencils (えんぴつ). I can’t quite tell what's going on in their top half, so they could still be more than regular gachapon machines, but for now I would not go so far as to call them "arcade games". I can also see Pokémon-branded merch in the same page, so it is possible these machine aren't even Super Mario-branded. Year articles

Given Nintendo's recent multimedia push, I don't think that the game-exclusive scope of this article makes sense. Currently, years simply redirect to sections of this article, meaning someone looking for information about films, soundtracks, or even game updates released in 2026 would fail to find that information.

Because this article doesn't cover anything but game releases, years are not always linked in infoboxes. For example:

We also have the alternative syntax [[List of games by date#2026|2026]], which is convoluted enough that the template {{y}} was created to shorten it to {{y|2026}}. The syntax would be even less convoluted if it were [[2026]].

This is not relevant, we do not need to go out of our way to teach that information or present ways to learn that information. Our article wouldn't state that 2026 began on a Thursday, of course. If readers feel the need to learn that information, they would follow the unobtrusive Wikipedia link that @Illuminoid mentioned. Regarding scope, we can't simply say "do not include websites, YouTube videos, and pieces of plastic, even if they are relevant to the franchise and approved by Nintendo," because events relating to Mario Portal, It's Me, Mario! Stop Motion Shorts, and amiibo figures should be included. I think that both explicitly stating what should be included and what shouldn't be included would result in too many exceptions. ...What? That sentence is very confusingly worded, and rather broad in terms of what little I can interpret.

Assuming that the question is meant to be "If a Mario character appears in a game, even if it's not a Mario game, then should the game be included on this list?", then it mainly depends on the context.

Certain games, such as ones where the Mario cast only appear via cameos or references, generally do not count. (Examples: Miitopia, Wii Fit Plus, etc.)
