The Debeso[1] are legendary Yoshis that are born every millennium. They appear in Super Mario World! Yoshi no Tamago of the Super Mario Kodansha manga.

They appear like Baby Yoshis with wings, closed eyes, and a tuff of three hairs. Another distinctive trait, and their namesake, is the outward belly button. They are extremely intelligent, calm and have magic powers (which also includes telepathy).

Every one thousand years, a Debeso is born, but at birth, the creature does not resemble the cute innocent-looking being it is known for: instead it looks like a draconian demon, but after shedding the dragon-like skin, it assumes its usual form. Because of this, in the years between the last and the current Debeso, the Yoshi community have erroneously considered the demon form, called Devil Yoshi, as an evil apparition that will wreak havoc upon the Earth. Having heard of this, Bowser gets the idea of taming the soon-to-be born Devil Yoshi and with it destroy everything that is Super Mario, even kidnapping Mother Yoshi so that she can warm the egg and quickly hatch Devil Yoshi. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi go to stop him, aided by the last Debeso, Oumu, not wanting his brother's powers to be in the wrong hands, and he uses his magic to help the heroes in their journey. In the end, Bowser manages to hatch the Devil Yoshi egg, but thanks to Star Yoshi's star, the draconian body is destroyed and the real Devil Yoshi emerges, as Oumu explains the truth behind his species.
