The original Yoshi's Island from Super Mario World.

Yoshi's Island is where the Yoshis originated. The island is part of a larger land called Dinosaur Land and first appeared in Super Mario World.

Appearances

Super Mario World

In Super Mario World, it was the first world of the game. After the castle is cleared, a bridge opens to the Donut Plains.

It next appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, when Baby Mario fell down to the island after the Stork carrying the Mario brothers was attacked by Kamek.

Yoshi's Story

In Yoshi's Story, Baby Bowser took over the island in an attempt to capture the Super Happy Tree. Bowser placed a spell over all the Yoshis, but six were unaffected, as they were unhatched and still in their eggs at the time the spell was cast. The six Yoshis must battle their way to Baby Bowser while eating fruit and regain their island by breaking the spell.

Mario Golf

Yoshi's Island is also one of the courses in Mario Golf for the Nintendo 64. It is a giant blush jungle course that has fruit scattered everywhere this course belongs to Yoshi.

Yoshi Topsy-Turvy

Similar to Yoshi's Story, in Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, the island is locked inside a pop-up book, this time known as the Forbidden Pop-Up Book. A spirit, named Hongo, felt threatened by Bowser and tried to lock him away in the book. The book was too powerful and sucked in all of Yoshi's Island, turning everything into paper. Yoshi, assisted by the Yoshi Island Spirits has to traverse the Island to reach Bowser. If he can defeat Bowser, Hongo will return the island to its normal state.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

During the events of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Yoob and the Shroobs attacked the island. Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi save this island. This game portrays the island with unique enemies such as Pidgits who were only known to exist in Subcon and Coconutters who are a completely new species. There were Yoshi statues around the island, and one of the had a hole where the spring water was coming out. Baby Mario must drink some of this water to get full of water, and then make Baby Luigi hammer him and then Baby Mario will spit the water out. This move is useful to douse bonfires.

Yoshi's Island DS

The island reappeared in Yoshi's Island DS, where many babies ended up here. Kamek starts to kidnap babies from all over the world, including Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach. Luckily, the Stork arrives just in time to rescue Baby Mario and Baby Peach. The Yoshi clan end up finding the babies again, and decide to help Baby Mario rescue his captive brother, and the rest of the kidnapped babies. Yoshi ends up finding two other captured babies, Baby DK and Baby Wario, who decide to help find the babies. Eventually, it is revealed that the culprit of the kidnapped babies was the Kamek from the future, and adult Bowser, who are after the Star Children. Because of an argument, Baby Bowser ends up helping the other babies in their journey. However, once they reach the end of Bowser's Castle, Baby Bowser betrays the Yoshi clan and the other babies, but is soon defeated. Bowser soon battles the Yoshi's because of what they did to his baby self. However, with the aid of the giant Yoshi eggs, Bowser was also defeated. However, he was then bloated up in size, where he proceeds to try to destroy the other Yoshi's. However, with teamwork between all four of the babies, the Yoshi's were able to defeat Bowser, who escaped back to his own time. Baby Luigi was rescued, and peace returned to Yoshi's Island.

Super Smash Bros. series

Yoshi's Island stage's remake from Melee. The actual stage was taken from the original.

Yoshi's Island appears as a stage in Super Smash Bros. The stage is based on Yoshi's Story. It is consisting of a big platform with the Super Happy Tree in the background, three other smaller floating platforms above, and three clouds at the edges of the stage, which vanish when a character stood on them too long. This particular stage reappeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as an enhanced remake.

Super Smash Bros. Melee also has another Yoshi's Island stage. It is based on Super Mario World. It is in a "valley" which is enclosed by a slope on the one side and a Warp Pipe on the other. In the middle, there is a hole with Turning Blocks above it. When the Turning Blocks are hit, characters can fall in the hole and get KOed. There are also two groups of turning blocks floating on the stage serving as additional platforms. In the background, various Super Mario World enemies could be seen. Another stage with Yoshi's Island in it in Melee is Yoshi's Story.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl also has a Yoshi's Island stage. It will be based on Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island rather than on Yoshi's Story. The stage has also been seen changing seasons. This stage is also one of the 'jolly' stages, so Crates and Barrels on this stage will look like presents. The stage also features Fly Guys that bring items to the stage. It also features a Support Ghost, which randomly appears on the screen. Strangly, Chomps have been seen in resent videos.

Yoshi's Island is one of the various monopoly boards in the game Itadaki Street DS.

Species

Though Yoshi's Island is mostly filled with Yoshis, many other kinds of species live on the island as well such as Shy Guys, Huffin' Puffins Poochy's species, and a notably high variety of Piranha Plants (the island is possibly their origin home, due to there being a jungle made entirely out of them).
