Princess Daisy
Princess Daisy (Japanese: Deiji-Hime) is a princess of Sarasaland, and first appeared in the game Super Mario Land. She is well known as a tomboy and her special abilities deal with flowers. She is best friends with Peach and rumored to be in a love relationship with Luigi. Daisy has been appearing in spin-offs for almost 7 years straight, and was made by Gunpei Yokoi, who died 8 years after he made her and 3 before she appeared in another Mario game other than Mario is Missing!.
Biography
First encounter with Mario
In the Super Mario Land series, Daisy was the Princess of Sarasaland, a neighboring desert nation of the Mushroom Kingdom. She was kidnapped by Tatanga the first time you see her. Mario being the hero he is, came to try and save her. Mario had to travel through each kingdom of Sarasaraland, fighting extraordinary new enemies at the end of each Kingdom. Every time he defeated a Boss, Daisy would appear to come out and thank him, but it turned out that all of these were fake, common enemies disguised as Daisy. Finally, Mario found the real Daisy being held by Tatanga. After a long battle in his plane, Mario was able to defeat Tatanga and rescue Daisy. The last part of Super Mario Land showed them flying away in Mario's plane. Although Daisy did not actually appear in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, it was revealed in this game that Wario had hired Tatanga to kidnap her in the first game.
Joining in on the Fun at Last!
Daisy made her reappearance in the Mario universe about one decade after her appearance in Open Tournament Golf and Mario is Missing in the games Mario Tennis and Mario Party 3. In Mario Tennis, Daisy served as the clumsy tomboy, best friend of Peach, and love interest for Luigi. In Mario Party 3, Daisy served the same purpose as in her last role, but her tomboyish side was shown yet again when when she sent Bowser soaring with one mighty punch. Her partner in battle mode was Snifit, and Daisy, like Waluigi, was not playable in the story mode of Mario Party 3, but after you beat the first 5 regular/Duel boards, Daisy will appear and seduce the Millenium Star into giving her the Beauty Star Stamp. She will get it challenge the player (Whoever it may be) to A battle on the Backtrack Board. Daisy has appeared in every Mario Party and Mario Tennis game sense, and has also become a regular on the golf course.
Lightweight Sports
Daisy missed the chance to appear in Mario Golf for the Nintendo 64, and had missed quite a few of the past Mario Karts, but made her debut in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Mario Kart: Double Dash for the GameCube. In Toadstool Tour, everyone seemed to notice her larger then usual stomach, which was said to be a graphical error that was fixed after the newest releases of the game. She made her debut in the Mario Kart series with Mario Kart: Double Dash!! as a partner to Princess Peach. She even got her own level called Daisy Cruiser, which can be seen drifting in the ocean on the Peach Beach course. She also got a kart dedicated to her, the Bloom Coach. Daisy and Peach also share the best defensive special item in the game, the Heart.
To The Next Level
Daisy's appearance in Mario Power Tennis introduced her Technique style and "Flower Powers". This is one of the first games where she is shown to be interested in flowers. She and the rest of the Mario gang made their first appearance on the baseball field in Mario Superstar Baseball where she once again had her "Flower Powers", and was a Balanced player that leaned more towards Technique. This was also the first game that noted Daisy being stronger then Peach.
Daisy DS
She has also appeared in Mario Kart DS as an unlockable player. Daisy is a lightweight character that has good acceleration and top speed, great drifting and item using, but low handling. Daisy made her second DS debut with Mario Hoops 3-on-3. In Mario Hoops Daisy's special is the Flower Shot. She once again has her own court, called Daisy Garden, a beautiful garden where two Petey Piranhas replace normal basketball hoops, making it hard to dunk.
Socking in Soccer
In Super Mario Strikers, Daisy once again joins the Mario gang; this time to play some soccer. In Super Mario Strikers, Daisy is an Offensive Captain who wears the number 09 jersey and possesses the ability to perform the Super Strike Torpedo Strike.
Future Appearances
Daisy will be appearing in the upcoming Itadaki Street DS, a game that will be a crossover between the Mario and Dragon Quest series. It is expected that she will also appear in Mario Strikers Charged. Along with other Mario characters, fans expect to see Daisy in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for the Wii.
Minor Appearances
For a long period of time, Daisy was considered an obscure character in the Mario franchise. After being rescued from Tatanga, Daisy snagged a cameo as Luigi's caddy in NES Open Tournament Golf. After that she appeared as a clerk in the game Mario is Missing. Like other people you can speak with throught this game Daisy provides Luigi with information about the area Luigi is at, or information on the artifact you are holding. This is mostly for an educational purpose.

Super Mario Bros. movie
In the Super Mario Bros. film, Daisy is a main character and the princess of Dinohattan, (The Mushroom Kingdom) The first scene of the movie shows her mother putting a green egg with a diamond tied to it on the steps of a catedral, fleeing from King Koopa. Her mother is later killed in a rockslide, and the green egg hatches into Daisy as a baby.
The nuns had either taken a vow of silence, or decided to keep it secret, because Daisy grows up thinking she is a normal human being. However, she always has an odd love of fossils and dinosaurs, so much that she opens a fossil digging buissness. One of her digging sites is being hounded by Anthony Scapelli, because it is making him lose buissness. One day, she meets Mario and Luigi, and she and Luigi really hit it off.
The Koopa King and has sent out his cousins Spike and Iggy to capture her. Fourtanetly, the cousins are continually kidnapping the wrong girls, including Mario's girlfriend Daniella. Finally, when Mario and Luigi are helping her repare damage (done by Scapelli) to her site, Iggy and Spike knock Mario and Kuigi out and kidnap Daisy. They take her to Dinohattan where Mario and Luigi follow. Luigi is able to get the diamond begore she is taken into a car and taken to King Koopa's Palace.
When she gets there, Koopa reveals to her that she is the princess of the dinosaur world. He says that, after the meteor that supposedly wiped out the dinosaur's actually sent them to an alternate dimension, where they evolved just as humans did. Her mother and father were the king of this dimension, until the Koopa King turned her father into a fungus. Her mother fleed into the dinosaur's original dimension, using the crystal around the egg. She is able to save daisy by leaving her at the cathedral, but she is killed in a rockslide when Koopa attacks her, thinking she still has the diamond.
King Koopa says that he has long harbored an ambition to take over the real world, (his former home), but cannot send his entire army there without the crystal. So he sent Iggy and Spike to find her, and with her, the diamond. When he discovers that Luigi has it, he is enraged, and locks Daisy up in a tower.
While emprisoned, Daisy forms a friendship with Koopa's family pet, Yoshi. The Koopa King's wife, Lena grows to hate her because the King has a crush on her. Eventually, this hatred drives her to try and kil Daisy. Yoshi, saves her at the last minute, and they both escape from the tower together. She is then kidnapped by a Goomba, who used be Toad. Ironically, it is Iggy and Spike, who had recently had there brains enlarged, that save her. She then meets up again with Mario and Luigi. Mario goes to save the "princesses" that Spike and Iggy kidnapped accidentally, while Luigi and Daisy go to stop the invasion.
Finally, Daisy seals the breach between the dimensions and decides to stay in Dinohattan an take her rightful place as ruler. The end of the movie shows Daisy, geared for war, appearin at Mario's apartment, telling them that they have to come back to Dinohattan, because a new threat had emerged. This was an attempt at setting up a sequel, which never came.
Comics
Daisy also appeared in the Game Boy comic books, where, as in Super Mario Land, she was the unwilling prisoner of Tatanga, hoping that Mario would eventually rescue her. In these comics, Daisy, Mario, and Tatanga, were released from the video game world to go through various adventures.
Personality
Daisy has a rather cheerful and chipper personality in each of the games she appears in. She is widely acknowledged as a tomboy and as "less feminine" than her Mushroom Kingdom counterpart, Princess Peach, in the respect that she is not seen as so "dainty" or "fragile" compared to her fellow member of royalty. She also has a huge competitive drive, though she knows it's all in good fun. She tends to speak more in common, contemporary vernacular than Peach as well. In Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64, she's been shown to be a bit clumsy. And in Mario Party 3, she showed a bit of a seductive side by showing off her good looks and flirting with the Millenium Star to get a free badge. All in all, she can be summarized as an outgoing, friendly, and fun loving girl who can "hang with the guys," so to speak.
Powers and Abilities
Despite not being a featured character in Mario Platforms since her debut appearance, Daisy has still revealed some of her special talents and abilities through-out appearing in the Mario spin-offs. In Daisy's appearances she has been shown to be able to perform standard attack moves such as punching, kicking, jumping, and even ground pounding.
As for items, Daisy can use every standard item that any other player can use from series like Mario Party, Mario Kart, and other games she has appeared in. In Mario Party 7 Daisy got to show off her love for flowers with being given the special team orb, the Flower Orb. Like other characters, Daisy has been shown in promotional art using various items from various games. It should be noted that Daisy has had three different character arts where she is using a baseball bat. One from Mario Party 3, another from Mario Party 4, and finally in her Mario Superstar Baseball art. She has also been shown using a soccer ball in various promotional art. Other items she has been seen using are a butterfly net, a Chain Chomp whistle, and a camera.
In Mario Power Tennis, Daisy can summon flower petals to form around her racket to make it look as if it was a flower. She then spins around the court in a paused world until she reaches the ball then hits it over the net leaving the opponent confused once they hit it, this special move is called Wonder Flower. She could also jump towards the tennis ball leaving a patch of flowers under the area of court she soared over until reaching the ball for an easy save, this move is called Flowerbed Return. Once again in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 she uses her special Flower powers to levitate over the court along with the basketball to kick the ball into the hoop with no way of stopping the attempt, this is called Flower Shot.
Daisy's special pitch in Mario Superstar Baseball is the Flower Ball, which allows her to throw a gust of flower petals which hides the slow pitch from any opponents eyes giving Daisy an almost guaranteed strike. Daisy's Super Strike is called the Torpedo Strike.
As mentioned at the bottom of the page, Daisy and Peach both possess the Flower Orb in Mario Party 7 and can use it to summon huge flowers on each space they step on, which when stepped on, gives them coins.
Physical Description and Traits
Daisy's current appearance has her in an orange and yellow dress. The dress includes flower accesories throughout the outfit. The dress also includes flower based frills on her sleeves and neck. At the bottom of the dress are two orange hoops, and at her waist are two orange pieces of cloth. She also wears short white gloves with flower frills at the wrist, and orange dress shoes. Daisy appears to have an auborn hair color. Daisy's hair style consists of two parted bangs, and short hair that curls up at the end like the Mario Bros. hair does. Along with being about the same height as Princess Peach, Daisy also has a very similar body size even though Daisy is known to be stronger then Peach is. Like every other human Mario character, Daisy has blue eyes.
In Mario sports titles, she is usually depicted in orange hot pants with a yellow shirt and daisy accessories. Daisy appears much more tomboyish when compared to Peach, who consistently wears a short skirt to the sports outings. The primary exceptions to this were in Mario Tennis on the N64, in which she, like Peach, is wearing an orange short dress with the usual flower brooch and earrings; a big difference is that Daisy is not wearing a crown, whereas Peach is. Later on in the game Mario Hoops 3-on-3 you can unlock a refined version of Daisy's Mario Tennis short skirt sports outfit. Also, in Super Mario Strikers, Daisy wears a 2-piece outfit, which created some controversy among fans.
Relationships with other characters
Peach
Main article: Princess Peach
Peach is the most notable relationship Daisy has with any of the Mario characters. Daisy has been good friends with Peach ever since her comeback appearance in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64. The two are often partnered up in Mario spin offs. Naturally, they enjoy the occasional rivalry, but for the most part, they enjoy each other's company. By their friendship, one can assume that the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland have very good foreign relations. Like Luigi, the two share good chemistry in the game Mario Superstar Baseball. Nintendo's Mario Power Tennis Website says that Daisy is Peach's sister in arms; obviously meaning more of a brotherly love type of relationship than actually being related.
Mario

Mario was the one who rescued Daisy from the clutches of Tatanga in Super Mario Land, and she rewarded him with a kiss upon her rescue. But Mario has never explicitly expressed an interest in her. And nowadays the two seem to be nothing more then acquaintances.
Luigi

Luigi is rumored to be Daisy's love interest, and vice versa. As previously noted, one of Daisy's only appearances between Super Mario Land and Mario Tennis was as Luigi's caddy for NES Open Tournament Golf, just as Peach was Mario's caddy; this would be the first implication of a relationship between the two, spawning the rumors that are mentioned in Daisy's trophy biography in Super Smash Bros. Melee: "After her appearance in Mario Golf, some gossips started portraying her as Luigi's answer to Mario's Peach." In Mario Tennis for the N64, Daisy is Luigi's doubles partner when he is selected for the doubles tournament. In the Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour beginning Daisy calls upon Luigi in the same way Peach calls upon Mario. When the two are paired up in the recent Mario Party games, their team name is "Steady Sweeties". In Mario Superstar Baseball, Luigi and Daisy are "buddy players," and they share good chemistry, whereas Daisy does not share chemistry with Mario. Nintendo has not explicitly said anything regarding their official status. As a result, the Luigi/Daisy relationship is still a mystery and is widely speculated and debated by fans to this day.
Toadette

Toadette and Daisy's team name in Mario Party is "Shopping Buddies"; which obviously implies that the two are friends of some kind.
Waluigi

Waluigi is rumored to secretly love Princess Daisy, which would add to his motive for being Luigi's rival. As result of Daisy and Waluigi team in Mario Party called Awkward Date, it could prove that he is the one who feels something for her. However, in Mario Superstar Baseball, Waluigi actually played worse when Daisy was on his team; probably due to the fact Waluigi is a villain character and Daisy is one of the good guys. Mostly all rumors about Waluigi and Daisy having a relationship is purely fan speculation.
Development
When Daisy first appeared in the Mario universe, she had long orange hair, a flower motif to her yellow and white dress, light skin, and a pink crown. This outfit also included flower accesories such as a blue flower brooch, flower earrings, and even flower jewels on her crown. The daisy-motif has only changed once since. A green color was given to it. In later games, such as Mario Party 3 and Mario Tennis, her appearance was refined. Giving her a rounder face, slightly darker skin tone, and a more auburn color to her hair. In Mario Party 4, Daisy's character design was altered again. Giving her shorter hair, a new yellow and orange dress design, a golden crown, and her original skin tone. Nowadays Daisy appears to have an average skin tone as opposed to the pale tone given to her in Mario Party 4, and Daisy's cheeks have been toned down quite a bit since her Mario Party 4 change.
When Daisy appeared in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64, she wore a short version of her dress from Mario Party 3. Other difference other then the fact it was much shorter were that it didn't included her dress shoes, it didn't include a crown, and it didn't include Daisy's gloves. Daisy can also be seen wearing this outfit in artwork for NES Open Tournament Golf. It should be mentioned that this outfit was a refined unlockable costume in Mario Hoops 3-on-3. It included Daisy's orange loops at the bottom, but not the two orange pieces of cloth around the waist. It also included her new sport shoes and crown. Not uncluding the unlockable costume from Mario Hoops 3-on-3, Daisy wears an outfit similar to her current dress except instead of a dress she wears a shirt without the puffy sleeves on her dress, and without the white frills. She also wears a pair of hot pants that are orange with yellow accents. The rest of her sports attire includes her crown and sport shoes.

In the Super Mario Bros. movie, Daisy is played by the actor Samantha Mathis.
Daisy's first voice actor was Kate Fleming, who played her voice in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64. Her next voice actor was Jen Taylor, who provided her voice in Mario Party 3, Mario Party 4, and finally in Mario Party 5. Jen Taylor also provided Peach's voice in these games. In every other game, Daisy has been (and is currently) voiced by Deanna Mustard.

Trivia
- The Super Mario Land manual on page #13 lists her as "Daisy Princess" even though they obviously meant to call her "Princess Daisy." This disordering might have to do with the fact that her Japanese name, Deiji-Hime, literally translated would be Daisy-princess.
- Daisy's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee has a mysterious third eye that players can view by zooming in on the back of her head, until the hair is no longer visible. This was fixed in PAL and US version 1.2.
- Although Daisy doesn't appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee, you could play as Princess Peach's alternate colors in SSBM. The alternate costume is Daisy's tanned skin, brown hair, and yellow dress with flower motif from the Nintendo 64 days as mentioned above.
- Daisy's trophy also says that she appeared in Mario Golf for N64 and GBC rather than Mario Tennis for N64 and GBC. Although Daisy appeared in NES Open Tournament Golf in 1991, the only Mario Golf game she has appeared in is Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, and that game was released nineteen months after Super Smash Bros. Melee.
- In Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour Daisy appeared to have a bit of a pudgy stomach. This extra stomach was added to hide errors with her models design. In later sports titles Camelot, the creators of the game, fixed it.
- The screen intro of NES Open Tournament Golf game shows Daisy's dress in blue color as Peach showing a green dress instead of their yellow and pink schemes respectly.
