Photo Finish is a 4-Player minigame from Mario Party 4. Its name is a reference to the eponymous term.

Introduction[edit]

The picture is shown on the screen before being duplicated for each player. It suddenly breaks and the pieces fly out, surprising the players, and the screens zoom back in as the cursor holding the first piece appears.

Gameplay[edit]

Players must piece the eight-piece puzzle together, one piece at a time. If the player has the correct orientation and location of the piece, it falls into place and the next piece appears. There are three puzzles: Toad's birthday party, a penguin's ice rink, and a Shy Guy's car. The first player to piece together their puzzle is the winner. If no one finishes their puzzle in the time limit, the game ends in a draw.

Ending[edit]

The camera zooms to the winning character's finished picture, and the character then jumps into the picture and interacts with it.

In Toad's birthday party, the character performs a pose as two Toads toast champagne between the player. In the penguin's ice rink, the character ice-skates in circles as penguins cheer. In the Shy Guy's car, the character rides in the car as the Shy Guy drives it.

Controls[edit]

  • L Button R Button – Rotate a piece
  • Control Stick – Move a piece
  • A Button – Drop a piece

In-game text[edit]

  • Game Rules"Please finish this photo puzzle. You can only drop a piece in its proper place, so you'll know when you've found the correct spot."
  • Advice"Focus on the picture, so that you remember which way the pieces face."
