Wrenches or spanners are tools that are thrown as projectiles by Rocky Wrenches and a few other enemies such as Wrench Shy Guys. They are typically designed as a stubby open-end wrench. They first appear along with Rocky Wrenches in Super Mario Bros. 3, where they are red when held and blue when thrown. Typically, they travel to Mario's height and continue horizontally while spinning.
Aside from their recurring role as an obstacle, wrenches (called Spanners in the British English version) appear as a sticker in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. They can only be collected in Bowser Jr.'s Flotilla by defeating certain Rocky Wrenches. It is a normal-sized sticker, taking up only one square in Mario's album. If and when it is used in battle, Mario will throw a wrench, dealing moderate damage to the enemy in the front of the line. The wrench can also be placed into the Sticker Museum as #91, alongside the other enemy-drop stickers. The description notes its use as a repair wrench.
