Images

Hi, so Eldritchdraaks (talk) wants to upload images on the battle maps in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle he created himself, but also wants to know if there are any additional permissions required to upload them. I don't see anything about permissions in MarioWiki:Image use policy, so if you could, could you please direct me to any policy that points out any permissions on self-published images? Thanks! Proposal archive

With this recently passed proposal, old proposals should be updated to reflect the date that they were canceled or withdrawn. I can take care of the talk page proposals easy enough, but the main proposals are in protected archives. There isn't exactly a neat solution for taking care of this, especially since not every archive has a withdrawn proposal and the archive's history pages aren't always indicative of when the proposals were pulled (though time doesn't matter per the proposal, the date may still be off by a day). For the moment, I'm digging through the main proposal's history page and collecting dates (something I should have done before, I'm aware), but when everything is set for editing the archives, how should it be done? Would it be more appropriate to unprotect the necessary archives and let me edit them, or tell an admin what edits need to be done and let them do it? While I was digging through the archives, I came across a proposal that was canceled by its proposer but never added to the archive. Going by its date, it would fit into Archive 17 and require a lot of shuffling around to accommodate... supposing that it's archived, of course. Locations in SMO

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to give those locations articles, especially if they're named? The Llama's Temple's temple isn't merged with Angry Aztec, Hotel Delfino isn't merged with Sirena Beach, Behind the Waterfall isn't merged with Hazy Maze Cave, and I'm sure there are other examples. Oh, so it's going to be a signature image? It can then be tagged as {{personal-file-sig}}, which fills up the signature slot. You are allowed four regular personal images and one signature image. I have seen people use more than one signature image, but then they will be using the slots available for regulars. 4:1 is the common ratio for personal:signature. Image Use Policy Update

MarioWiki:Image use policy isn't reflecting a policy change years ago. Would it be appropriate to make the necessary fix to the policy page? Maybe it can go before or after the current second bullet point? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 02:02, 21 October 2017 (EDT)

Pretty good way to word it but I would make these slight tweaks: JPG artwork with solid color, patterned, or scenery backgrounds should also not be converted for the sake of replacing them with transparent backgrounds, as this can lead to leftover off-color edge pixels as a result of bad transparency, which are easily visible when viewed on a different color background. Such images should just be uploaded as they are without any modifications to the backgrounds whatsoever. If you think the wording can be even better than what I suggest, make the changes. The reason I suggest this is because sometimes artwork may have a non-white color background. I hope to not go into too much detail as Shokora (talk) has a WIP about a complete overhaul of the image use policy. Thank you for fixing what I wrote, I just read and put what Koizumi said in the Famitsu article, the team wrote the song, and then Nintendo of America translated to English for everyone to understand it (it's the most spoken language without counting Chinese or Spanish), he uses the word "heart", like if it was in Japanese it would be difficult for the rest of the world to connect with the song. Oh and the Upbeat part it's just a simplification of what Koizumi also said about the music. He mentions other things I can also tell. We're on the same channel, I used Google to help me translate the text I couldn't fully understand, but really, they talk a lot of things, including that in Super Mario Sunshine originally there was going to be real humans, but the designs of those humans end up being too cartoony to actually call them humans, so they went with the cartoon style we all know. Hang on a moment. Those images existed in that form without anyone saying anything about them. They're also not identical, and Howzit's new versions accordingly reflect the differences. Practically, they're the same, but they're not duplicates. Both of them were first uploaded last year, from a secondary source ("EverythingSuperMario"). To me, considering the snafu that already happened with them uploading duplicates, I would have assumed that those images were considered fine, since nobody said anything about them. I have been using MarioWiki:Staff noticeboard for reporting users where I am unsure what to do and let staff figure out the right course of action. Why? I have been told that I was being too strict and a bit trigger-happy with issuing warnings in the past. I have chilled out since then. It has been rather unclear to me when and what to issue. Inappropriate File Movement

A user moved Unagi.png to File:Maw-Ray.png despite the former name making more sense for the game in question, and didn't fix the links to it on any page. Given that the former name makes more sense for the specific context, I think it should be moved back, but the redirect needs deleted first. We still have the truck (definitely gets an article), oil tanker, three wheeled pick up truck, surfboard truck, glider ramp truck and taxi. What do you reckon we should do about them?
