Opening Statement

Henry Tucayo Clay (talk)
Tuwaaayo.png

HI, everyone! Welcome to another Special Issue of The 'Shroom, this time in celebration for our seventy-fifth issue. As every year, we have put together our efforts in a big, themed issue for you to enjoy over the summer; we decided to theme this issue after games Gamefreak75 (talk) likes, so you will find a very diverse selection. The themes this issue will be following, all with matching backgrounds are:

Section of the Month

Henry Tucayo Clay (talk)

HI, readers! I'm your healthy Co-director, Tucayo, here to present you the results of last month's Section of the Month poll for the Main Team. Once again, the Main Team only had two issues, which is really sad; please take a look at the Sign Up page and apply, I'm sure you'll find something you like.

On to the results, we have a tie! With a strikingly low number of votes, Superchao (talk) and FunkyK38 (talk) received seven votes each. On his Interview, Superchao took upon the herculean task of delving into Marshal Dan Troop (talk)'s mind, providing us with a fun and informative section, as well as evidencing my barrel full of bootleg whiskey. On the other side we have Funky's Brawl Tactics, in which she reviewed the particularly-odd Hanenbow, explaining all the weird gimmicks this stage has. Both were pretty good sections and deserving of the SOTM, so congratulations to both!

The 'Shroom Spotlight

YoshiKong (talk)
Our mascot?

Hello readers! YoshiKong here with the Special Issue LXXV's edition of The 'Shroom Spotlight! For those of you who aren't yet familiar with the project, Spotlight is a monthly section which focuses on an article or a group of articles and highlights issues with it. Users can then collaborate to improve those articles. Progress which was undertaken during the month is discussed in the next issue, and new articles are put forward for improvement. So last month, we had our second edition of 'Shroom Spotlight edition in years, and I can honestly say that we were very pleased with the turnout. We focused on four different articles, each with a specific issue which needed attention. They were: Beanbean Kingdom (which needed more images), the Goombario article (which has an overly long Trivia section), Donuts and Eggs (a stub article) and Gearmo (which needed a rewrite). By the end of the month, we successfully completed each of our goals for all four articles, as recorded here! Thank you to all who participated. So, before we begin discussing the Spotlight for this month, we would like to announce a recently implemented template which will be used to assist the project: {{spotlight notice}}. From now onwards, this template will be put on articles during their time of being a 'Shroom Spotlight focus, linking to the associated section so users can easily view the project's goals for the month. Also, the Lakitu sprite seen on the template is a sprite from the game Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which was the very first focus for the new 'Shroom Spotlight. We feel that since the sprite is from the game which brought the project back, as well as perfectly representing the Spotlight, are the reasons for it now officially becoming the project's symbol!

Poll Chairperson Election

Sunday, 23 May 2010, a proposal concerning several changes in our current Main Page was accepted by the community and passed. This proposal can be viewed here.

One point this proposal addressed was the creation of a Poll committee, a selected group of users to create and select polls to feature on the Main Page. The members of this committee are meant to be selected by a person in charge of the committee, the Poll Committee Chairperson, who shall be elected by the community. The fourth annual Poll Committee Chairperson Election is taking place here.

Feedback Survey

Super Mario Bros. (talk)

Greetings, readers and writers! We here at The 'Shroom thrive on praise, criticism, and feedback in general in order to maintain a quality project. If we have a feature we are running well, we need to know that it is a good product that we offer each month. If we have sections that need improvement, criticism will help us understand what we need to improve. We in the staff listen to our readers in order to provide them with the best experience each month, and that is why we have posted up a Feedback Survey at this time.

We invite you to fill out the form in order to help us get an idea of where we stand. We have designed it to be as simple and straightforward as possible. We ask that you choose the responses that best represent you and your opinions so that we can make changes that will appeal to your tastes. We welcome praise and constructive criticism, as well as any new ideas you feel may improve the newsletter project.

Fake News

Editorial

Mckirby.png
Hii! and welcome to the 75th Fake News! Wow, I can't believe I haven't been fired yet I haven't left yet...uh, I mean, I can't believe it's been so long since Issue L.

So, I'm not sure if you've noticed yet, but take a look around. The pink marshmallow who seems to be wearing my skin as a hat should give you some idea of what this month's Fake News' theme is - that's right, it's Kirby. And, because of that, we have a number of people who have completely forgotten the theme created sections to go along with the theme. We've even got some special sections, courtesy of Gamefreak75 and myself. Before I get into some kind of detail, let's see who won last month's section of the month. Last month's winner was...Mr. Game & Watch (talk) (previously known as Goomba) with the Shop Scout, with 15 votes! Yoshi K (talk)'s Sport Report came a close second with 13 votes, and Pyro (talk)'s Travel Guide came third with 12 votes. Wait a minute, why does nobody vote for the Editorial? I work hard on this, y'know? And while I'm writing this I'm missing a few minutes or so of playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Look what you've done.

Fun Stuff

Director’s Notes

Marshal Dan Troop (talk)

Captainstoey.png

Dearest Fun Stuff writers, it is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation from the position of Fun Stuff Director and appoint this random Homeless Person named Blocky to take the job (also I’m taking Gamefreak75 with me MWAHAHAHAHAAHAH). Anyways, in other news Freakworld has won this months section of the month with his Guess Who section, with the great orator Henry Tucayo Clay coming in second with his Mystery Images section, and with the insanely hot Pyro coming in third with his Find The Difference section.

Pipe Plaza

Director's Notes (Paper Yoshi (talk))

Pikminyoshi.png

Hello, readers, and welcome to the Special Issue LXXV!! This month, each Sub-Team, including the Main Team, is themed around a video game series enjoyed by former Fun Stuff Director Gamefreak75 (talk), to match the issue's number (LXXV = 75 in Roman numerals). The theme for the Pipe Plaza team, as chosen by the Core Staff, is the Pikmin series.

However, as our sections mostly feature factual information, the Pipe Plaza will not include said theme, aside from the lovely picture of the most handsome Yoshi-Pikmin in the world you see on your right.

Critic Corner

Pokemondp.png

Director's Notes

Crocodile Dippy (talk)

Can't talk, hyperventilating from school stress. All you kids don't know shit about stress, let me tell you that much. OK so special issue is among us, and we have the special treat of nothing for critic corner! Oh well I guess we have some cool pretty Pokémon stuff, if you really care that much about it. Could've done with a Steelix or two, but oh well (P.S. Jasmine is still the best gym leader). YoshiMonsta (talk) is going bi-monthly, and I'm retiring Dippy's Matilda completely because of school and work stresses, so that's pretty much all the news there is.

Anyway, I have a test to study for, so entertain yourself for an hour or so here, I'm not your monkey that can be wheeled out to dance and throw fruit on demand. Yet, I'm working on it.

Retro Feature

Henry Tucayo Clay (talk)

HI, lovable readers! I'm your legendary Co-director, Tucayo, here with a very special edition of Retro Feature. As you all know, this is our 75th issue, and we decided to celebrate it by honoring one of the best users to ever don number 75. And no, I am not talking about Daisy75 (talk), or Enriquew75 (talk) (though it would be interesting to cover them for my next issue), I'm talking about none other than Gamefreak75 (talk). Let's be honest, if you didn't think of Gamefreak upon seeing the number 75 you have failed as a Mariowikian. Why is it so important to know his story? Well, keep on reading and you will find out.

After trying luck in other wikis out there in the cold, cruel wikiverse, Gamefreak75 joined the Super Mario Wiki on September 18, 2009. His hard work on the wiki earned him a promotion to patroller around ten months after joining, and another one to sysop on December 2010. Also a frequent user of the forums and the chatroom, Gamefreak got promoted to Chatroom Op on September 2010, and earned his promotion to Global Moderator on our forums on February 2011. He has also been an important part of the Awards Committee, helping host the Fail Awards in the 2011, 2012, and 2013 editions.

Interview

Superchao (talk)

Greetings, 'Shroom readers! I'm Superchao, and introductions are still the enemy!

This month, I'm interviewing Gamefreak75, for Issue 75! Yes, it's quite apt. Fun fact: he was originally going to be interviewed in like October or something but a rearrangement was suggested and thus we get this. Anyhow.

Gamefreak's certainly one of the more well-known people here. At the time of this writing he's the only person to be staff on the forum, wiki, and chat - and he's certainly active on all three. He's also been the host of the Fail Awards three years running, and was the Fun Stuff Director on the Shroom throughout the 2011 and 2012 terms. With all these hats, you could even make a TF2 joke!

Brawl Tactics

FunkyK38 (talk)

What's up, Brawlers? FunkyK38 here with this month's edition of Brawl Tactics!

This month, I'm stepping back in time to a retro-like stage of Mario Bros.!

This stage is modeled after the original Mario Bros. game. I remember playing it on my Super Mario Bros. 3 when I had it on my Gameboy Advance, the music, the not-too-complicated levels, and the simplicity of it all! They certainly don't make 'em like that anymore.

ANYWAYS. Back to the Brawl Stage. This stage is a medium-sized stage that can seem pretty big. Since it is an 8-bit stage, your pictures won't turn out well if you try to adjust the angle of the shot taken. Your character will be a line or a mess of flat pixels. Not so good. The sides and ceiling of this stage are not very deep, and you'll want to be particularly careful when battling near the sides. You will not appear out of the opposite side if you try to go through the walls like in the old game, so just save yourself the trouble of a KO and don't do it.

Fangamers Report

Pyro (talk)

Hey, users of the MarioWiki and things! For a long time, the MarioWiki has gone without an official fangame. The user Stooben Rooben and Agonizing Masterpiece Productions attempted it once - an RPG Maker game called Userpedia: Spirit Lies. This fell flat on itself due to complications.

Later, I figured out how to use Game Maker, and subsequently announced on the forums that we should all collaborate to make an awesome game featuring the users of the Super Mario Wiki and their references/internet avatars/whatever you want to call them. The categories for collaboration were (and still are) - Programmers, Writers, Composers, Spriters, and Designers. Almost all of the MarioWiki couldn't really use Game Maker, and I understand its dumb ways of doing things can turn off a lot of people. We got a lot of writers to write the script. There was one Composer and Desinger, but that person just randomly poofed away for some reason. There were two programmers including me, but the other had to resign, leaving me to program it all.

Kirby vs. Mario

Gamefreak75 (talk)

By Gamefreak75 (talk)

Intro

Hello readers! First off, let me congratulate the Shroom staff on this wonderful issue. Issue LXXV is a large milestone for the Shroom because it is only a quarter away from the 100th issue and it's dedicated to me. Anyways, you probably don't want to hear me babbling about the 'Shroom and its achievement or other useless drivel, but rather to read what goes on in the deepest part of my mind. Well too bad, this is a video-game related article. To be more specific, this article is about the Mario and Kirby series.

Pokémon Tournament

Palkia47 (talk)

Hello everyone! I am Palkia47 (or Packy or MySweetLord or Red Barchetta), and I am here to announce a collaboration Pokémon tournament being ran by the Awards Committee and the 'Shroom! This Pokémon tournament is being done using generation 5 games (Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, and Pokémon White 2) and will be hosted by both me and Smasher (talk).

We are currently set to have two Pokémon tournaments: a main tournament (Single Battles) and a side tournament (Double Battles).

We are also currently set to be using the following rules (AKA flat rules):

  • We will have a set level at LEVEL 50 – this means that any Pokémon over level 50 will be reduced to level 50, and any Pokémon below level 50 will stay where they are.
  • There will be no same Pokémon in a single party – this means that you cannot have two of the same Pokémon on your team; an example would be that you cannot have two Charizard’s on your team.
  • There will be no same item in a single party – this means the same as the previous rule, except with items. No team will be allowed to have two of the same item on any of their Pokémon during the battle; an example would be that you cannot have a Potion on a Squirtle and a Potion on a Caterpie.
  • There will be no legendary Pokémon – this is very self-explanatory. If a list of legendary Pokémon not allowed is needed, then please contact either Smasher or I.
