Princess Peach Toadstool (sometimes just called Peach) is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, first appearing in Super Mario Bros. She resides in her castle. She is often the damsel in distress is most Mario games, and sometimes a playable character.
Game Appearances
The Captive Princess
In Super Mario Bros., Princess Peach (renamed Princess Toadstool outside Japan until Yoshi's Safari) was kidnapped by King Bowser, so Mario needed to rescue her. He went through eight castles, but each of the first seven was guarded by a fake Bowser and the only persons trapped there were Toads.
After completing all seven castles and defeating Bowser in the seventh, Mario finally found the princess and rescued here.
In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Toadstool got kidnapped by Bowser and rescued by Mario once again the same way as before in Super Mario Bros.
A Daring Damsel
In Super Mario Bros. 2, players could actually play as Princess Toadstool (as well as Mario, Luigi and Toad) on their quest to save the dream land of Subcon from the evil Wart. Her main ability was that she could float for a few seconds after each Jump.
Another Kidnapping
In Super Mario Bros. 3, the princess sent items to Mario and Luigi, while they saved the Mushroom Kings. However, later on, Bowser kidnapped Toadstool and the Mario Bros. had to save her.
In Trouble Again
In Super Mario World, Mario, Luigi and Toadstool were having a vacation in Dinosaur Land when Bowser once again kidnapped Peach. Mario and Luigi rescued Toadstool with the help of Yoshi.
Peach Power
In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, a SNES game made by Squaresoft, Toadstool was one of Mario's party members, along with Mallow, Geno and Bowser. At the beginning of the game, Bowser kidnapped her. Mario came to her aid, and fought Bowser. However, Exor crashed into Bowser's Keep, and sent the three flying in different directions. Peach landed in the tower of Booster. Booster fell in love with her, and planned to force her to marry him, despite her cries of "MARIO, HELP ME! MARIO, HELP ME! MARIO, HELP ME!". After Mario had charged Booster Tower and defeated Knife Guy and Grate Guy, Booster ran away with her up Booster Hill, and reached Marrymore, where he wanted to marry Toadstool as soon as possible. Mario managed to stop the wedding and took Toadstool back to the Mushroom Kingdom. However, she escaped from the castle with the help of her Grandma, who was taking her disguise, and rejoined Mario's party.
Her healing abilities made her one of the most important members of the group. The game also introduced a Toadstool Clone, which could use the same and more powerful attacks, such as Mega Recover.
The Castle Kidnapping
Super Mario 64 once again reverted to the old plot: Save the princess from King Bowser. Toadstool baked a cake for Mario, but when he came to the castle, Toad told him that Bowser had kidnapped Peach again. It should be noted that this game is the first and only game to merge both names for the Princess. She signed her letter as "Princess Toadstool, Peach", which establishes Toadstool as her last name. Subsequent games use her first (or original) name exclusively outside of certain ports to Game Boy Advance.
A 2-Dimensional Quest
In Paper Mario, the second Mario RPG, King Bowser once again kidnapped Peach, this time using his castle to carry her away. Bowser uprooted the castle and flew it into the sky. He did this after imprisoning the 7 Star Spirits and stealing the Star Rod. Once again Mario rescued her, this time with the help of the 7 Star Spirits and his party members Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Bow, Parakarry, Sushie, Watt and Lakilester. Peach actually helped Mario to save the Mushroom Kingdom. A young star named Twink came to help her, and together they found a secret passage out of her room. She sabotaged Bowser's plots by supplying Mario with a relatively constant stream of information, using Twink as her messenger.
At the end of the game, Bowser tied her to the ceiling of the main hall as bait for Mario. Mario came and fought Bowser. After his defeat, Bowser grabbed the Princess and ran to the roof of the castle. He then used the Star Rod to make himself completely invincible. Princess Peach and Twink got into a fight with Kammy Koopa, and defeated her. Then Peach wished that her kingdom would remain safe. Twink and Peach added their power to the Star Beam, making it able to break Bowser's invincibility.
Paradise Ruined
In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario, Peach and Toadsworth went to Isle Delfino. However, Shadow Mario (who later turned out to be Bowser Jr.) had filled the island with graffiti, and Mario was forced to clean it up with FLUDD. Eventually, Bowser Jr. kidnapped Peach and Mario once again had to rescue the princess. Bowser Jr. claimed that Peach was his mother, but then Bowser admitted that it was a lie.
The Neigboring Kingdom
Peach had her voice stolen by Cackletta and Fawful in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the third Mario RPG. But it turned out that it wasn't really Peach at all; it was Birdo, who disguised herself as Peach to trick Cackletta.
Peach later went to the Beanbean Kingdom with her plane, where Mario and Luigi were trying to rescue what they thought would be Peach's voice. She came after Mario and Luigi had defeated Cackletta in the Woohoo Hooniversity. Peach revealed Birdo's disguise, thanked Mario and Luigi for taking care of the Cackletta problem, and decided to spent holidays in the Beanbean Kingdom. She expressed the wish to travel to Little Fungitown, which was lying across the dangerous Teehee Valley. Toadsworth insisted that Mario and Luigi accompany the princess on this journey.
During their venture through Teehee Valley, Peach had to be protected from any harm in the desert. When she disappeared from Mario and Luigi's view, Gritty Goombas would appear instantly and taking her to an underground dungeon. At the valley's end, Peach ran into Trunkle, a gaint rock monster, but Mario and Luigi saved her from it before it was too late.
Later, Bowletta kidnapped Peach, who was at the Mushroom Kingdom embassy of Little Fungitown at the time, using Bowser's Koopa Clown Car. When Mario and Luigi met Bowletta in Joke's End, Luigi dressed himself up in Peach's spare dress to fool Bowletta and Fawful into thinking he was Peach. The plan worked, and Bowletta released the real Peach, and kidnapped Luigi instead. In the meantime, Mario received a kiss from Peach.
After Luigi's escape from the repaired Koopa Cruiser, Peach stayed in the Little Fungitown embassy until Bowletta was defeated.
A Different Captor
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Peach was kidnapped again, but not by Bowser - she was kidnapped by Grodus, the leader of the X-Nauts and taken to the X-Naut Moon Base. The player was able to control Peach after each chapter, like in the original Paper Mario, and a computer named TEC fell in love with her and betrayed Grodus to help Peach escape. Grodus had TEC shut down when he found out, and took her to the Palace of Shadow, where the Shadow Queen, the ancient 1000-year old demon, possessed Peach and fought Mario. However, she found Peach's body too weak and returned to her true form (a purple shadow creature) for the final battle.
Time Travelling

In the past of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Young Toadsworth always took care of the baby princess, since she cried a lot. Baby Mario and Baby Luigi would sometimes come to play with her. And even Baby Bowser still came to kidnap her. But one day, some weird aliens known as Shroobs attacked. And since Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Bowser, Baby Peach and Young Toadsworth were all there, Baby Bowser called Kamek to get them out of the castle. Kamek arrived and took them out of the castle just in time.
In the present, Peach, Toadiko and Toadbert had used the time machine of E. Gadd to travel back to the past, to the time where the Shroobs were attacking. When they got to the past, the Shroobs cornered Peach and the Toads. Elder Princess Shroob, the leader of the Shroobs, and Princess Shroob, the younger princess, attacked Peach. Peach grabbed the time machine's power supply, the Cobalt Star, and trapped Elder Princess Shroob inside it. Then she broke the Colbat Star into pieces, while Elder Princess Shroob was still inside. Princess Shroob was surprised so she captured Peach.
In the present, E. Gadd said that to save Peach, Mario and Luigi needed to get all the Cobalt Shards. Mario and Luigi went to the past and teamed up with their baby selves to save Peach.
Later in the game, Peach got eaten by Petey Piranha, but was spat out later and put behind a cage. Mario and Co. eventually found her, but with a Shroob Mushroom on her face. They were surprised, but as they had saved Peach, they took her to the present. There E. Gadd told Peach to take a rest. Peach took a rest but then Bowser came and kidnapped her. Bowser accidentally fell in a time hole, and went in the past, at Thwomp Volcano. Bowser met Baby Bowser there and, despite not recognizing him as his younger self, teamed up with him to fight Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Mario and Co. followed Bowser, and beat him and Baby Bowser, saving Peach. But the Shroob Mother Ship sucked in Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Peach. They learned that that Peach was Princess Shroob dressed as Peach. The real Peach was still in Shroob Castle.
When Mario and Luigi got to Shroob Castle, they saw Peach, but Princess Shroob interrupted their conversation at the point where Peach was going to explain why the Cobalt Star should not be completed and a battle begins. After it, Baby Bowser reunited the Colbat Star Shards all together, making Elder Princess Shroob appear and giving her back all her power.
Kidnapped By a Kid
Princess Peach was kidnapped once again in New Super Mario Bros. However, as in Super Mario Sunshine, the culprit was not Bowser but his son, Bowser Jr. In the beginning of the game, Peach and Mario were enjoying a walk around the castle. However, smoke began to billow from the peaceful fortress. When Mario went to investigate, Peach was nabbed by Bowser Jr. As it turned out, the fire was merely a diversion created by Junior to lure Mario away from Peach.
Ultimately, Mario chased Bowser Jr. (with Peach in tow) throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, eventually stopping the young fiend, fighting him, along with Bowser, and after defeating them, saving Peach.
Peach To The Rescue
Finally, in 2006, the roles that had existed for the last 20 or so years were reversed - it was Princess Peach's turn to save Mario and Luigi from the dreaded King Bowser. With the aid of a talking umbrella named Perry - who was amnesiac and therefore possessed a mysterious past - Peach travelled to Vibe Island, where Bowser had moved his operations in order to obtain the Vibe Scepter. However, the Goomba who brought it to him had been affected by its magic, and with a calm, playful attitude, he used the scepter on the entire island, thereby creating chaos.
With this, Peach was capable of using four Vibe Techniques to help her through the areas.
- With the Calm Vibe, she was capable of recharging her health at the cost of her vibe meter. She also continued to possess full control over Perry, unlike the other three vibes.
- With the Gloom Vibe, Peach would become overwhelmed with sadness and would bawl; this was not useful for defeating enemies, but would make vines grow and made her run faster as well as jump further.
- With the Rage Vibe, she would become angry, and would gain a fiery aura, which was good at defeating foes, including being able to defeat both Boos and Dry Bones. It also weakened her jump, making her capable of only half the normal jump, but allowed her to stomp hard on the ground once landing, knocking foes over. In this "form", she was incapable of running.
- Finally, with the Joy Vibe, Peach would be overwhelmed with happiness, and could float through the air, essentially giving her flight. If she stopped moving and allowed herself to drift downwards for any amount of time, she would spin, creating a whirlwind which could defeat foes, including the dreaded Chain Chomps.
Princess Peach also was capable of floating for a short period of time like she was in Super Mario Bros. 2 (and subsequently, Super Smash Bros. Melee), only this time she used Perry to hold her aloft rather than her dress.
Eventually, she fought her way through the island's many hazards and got Mario back. Perry also became less amnesiatic as time went on, eventually recovering his memory.
Super Paper Princess
Peach was a playable character in Super Paper Mario, starting after Chapter 1. She escaped from Castle Bleck with the help of Private Koopa, and fell from the sky into Flipside. Although she was temporarily unconscious, she got better and joined the adventure when Mario gave her Spicy Soup. She could float with her parasol using the 2 button, and if the player pressed down on the D-Pad, she used the parasol to shield from her enemies.
In Chapter 8-2, Mimi taunted her for having been kidnapped so many times and for being rescued by plumbers instead of just rescuing herself. Due to this, Peach started acting rude to Mario and Luigi due to what Mimi said. Peach and Mimi clashed soon after. When Peach won, a trap door was activated and Mimi fell down it. However, Peach saved her. The two fell down the shaft and were thought to be lost, but of course, both survived. Peach comes back during the battle against Count Bleck.
Peach also had a big role in Super Paper Mario in that the only way to form the evil Chaos Heart was through her being married to Bowser; such a wedding was successfully executed by Count Bleck. It is very interesting to note that, even by the end of Super Paper Mario, nothing was ever stated about Peach and Bowser forming a divorce of any sorts, and it is likely that the subject of their bond in matrimony will never be touched again in any Mario game. It is also possible that the Peach and Bowser's wedding was not official, as Peach herself expressed a belief in The Bitlands. Count Bleck is the one who "wed" the two and he is obviously not qualified to wed people so the wedding was a sham the whole time. However, Bowser showed a great and continuous belief in their marriage for the obvious reasons of his love for Peach, and the wedding was indeed official enough to make the Chaos Heart appear, so the mysteries of Peach's marriage may never be solved.
Another Kidnap
In Super Mario Galaxy, Peach will be kidnapped by an unknown villain. She will be brought into outer space and into the whole galaxy and Mario will have to go through different planets to save her. Although Peach will still appear in the game, a new Princess, named Princess Rosetta, has been revealed to be in the game. What her role is, is currently unknown.
The Future
Peach is set to appear in Mario Party DS, and Mario Kart Wii. She will also appear in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, where she was confirmed along with Amy Rose. As mentioned before, she will be appearing in Super Mario Galaxy, once again as the Damsel-in-Distress. Peach has also been revealed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Other Games
Mario Kart Series
Peach has always been playable in the Mario Kart series. In Super Mario Kart, when controlled by the CPU, she would sometimes use mushrooms against the other drivers which would shrink them. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, she is teamed up with Daisy, and their special item is the Heart. Her personal kart is the Heart Coach. In Mario Kart DS, her karts are the Royale and the Light Tripper. In Mission mode, she has to race against King Boo. Interestingly, Peach was classified Middleweight in Double Dash!!, but Light in Mario Kart DS.
Mario Party Series
Peach is also playable in all games of the Mario Party series. In Mario Party 3 story mode, the player has to defeat her for the Love Star Stamp. On the Mario Party 3 duel boards, she is accompanied by Toad. In Mario Party 7, her partner is Daisy, and their Character Orb is the Flower Orb.
Mario Tennis Series
In the Mario Tennis series, Peach is a technique character. In Mario Power Tennis, her Offensive Power Shot is the Super Peach Spin, while her Defensive Power Shot is the Sweet Kiss Return.
Mario Strikers
Peach is a Playmaker captain in the Mario Strikers games. In Super Mario Strikers, her Super Strike is the Royal Strike, and in Mario Strikers Charged, her Super Ability is Freeze Frame!
Other Sports
Peach is playable in the Mario Golf series and Mario Superstar Baseball, as well as in Mario Hoops 3 on 3, where she is a technical character. She is also set to appear in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
Super Smash Bros. Series
Peach is one of the default playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where she can once again float in mid-air and pull vegetables out of the ground. She has a great recovery capacity but is easy to send flying.She can also use an umbrella (like Perry) which can be used to float to the ground and whack people with. In Adventure Mode, she is fought at the end of the first stage. The player will have to fight her and Mario or Luigi. Princess Peach's Castle is also a course in the game. The detail in Peach's appearance is also greatly increased with a much more realistic look than in any Mario game before.
Peach has appeared in a screenshot and a video in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, no information is known about her so far, though she has been seen floating to the ground with her parasol.
Miscellaneous Games
Peach also appeared in the "modern" version of Donkey Kong in Game & Watch Gallery 3. Donkey Kong had kidnapped her, and Mario had to rescue her. It is unknown if this is a canon appearance. Peach was also the main character of the modern version of Cook, where she has to flip sausages, bacon, and eggs, without letting them fall. Again, this game's canonicity is questionable.
Peach's latest appearance was the crossover game Itadaki Street DS.

Cartoons
In the DiC Entertainment cartoons The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Super Mario World cartoon, Princess Toadstool appeared regularly. She had red hair instead of blond, due to its coloration in the first few games.
Comics
She also appeared in the Nintendo Comics System comics, which had a regular feature called Dear Princess Toadstool.
Appearance
Princess Peach has often, in manuals and official websites, been described as beautiful and graceful. She wears a long pink dress with arm-length gloves. She has a small and well-shaped figure and shiny sky blue eyes. Peach also wears a crown decorated with rubies and sapphires along with sapphire earrings. Under her crown, flows long almost golden hair. Peach has always been depicted as a blonde in games. Also, in official artwork by Nintendo, her hair has been blond since the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a the Lost Levels). However, due to the graphical limitations of the NES hardware, her on-screen sprite in the earlier Super Mario Bros. games displayed her with brown hair or red hair and outlines. Presumably, this was the reason why Peach was depicted with red hair instead of blond in the cartoons. This discrepancy was remedied in the SNES era with Super Mario World, in which was she shown with her proper hair color. Also she started to wear arm-length gloves in Super Mario World, which is added to her ensemble. In sport games, Peach wears somewhat revealing outfits, especially so in Super Mario Strikers. She sometimes wears her hair tied up in a ponytail, as seen in random parts of Super Mario Sunshine, temporarily in both Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario. She almost always has the ponytail in the sports games, with Mario Party as a notable exception. She also has the ponytail in Super Mario 64 DS. It should be noted that Peach over the years have captivated many with her looks, unintentionally. Villians have been known to fall in love with her at first sight, and then try to marry her.
Personality
Princess Peach is generally portrayed as a calm, cheerful, generous and kind monarch with an avid interesting in baking. In the cartoon shows her personality was much the same as she was practical and generous to a fault; in one episode where the Mario Bros. are getting homesick, she vows to find a way to get them home and when they find it later in the episode, insists they take it even though Koopa is still on the loose.She is also shown to have an interest in surfing in the cartoons. In games like Super Mario Strikers, she is shown to be competitive and naughty, though she still shows good sportsmanship as shown in Mario Power Tennis. Deep down inside she is very touchy about being rescued by Mario and Luigi, as seen in Super Paper Mario. Princess Peach has also been showed to have a noble personality and a willingness to help others. In Mario Party 8, when teamed up with Yoshi they are called Kind Hearts, meaning Peach, like Yoshi, always gives out a helping hand.
Relationships
Mario

Mario is Peach's boyfriend. Mario saves Peach quite often and she usually will bake him a cake or give him a kiss upon her rescue. Princess Peach also saves Mario on occasion by using her wits. Since Peach's debut appearance, the two have been largely speculated to be in a romantic relationship. This is confirmed in the official European Mario website, in which Peach is listed as Mario's girlfriend. There are also other implications from the games that reach the same conclusion. They both show deep devotion to each other.
Daisy

Daisy has been the best of friends with Peach ever since her comeback appearance in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64. The two are often partnered up in Mario spin-offs. Naturally, they enjoy the occasional rivalry, but for the most part, they enjoy each other's company. By their friendship, one can assume that the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland have very good foreign relations. The two share good chemistry in the game Mario Superstar Baseball. Nintendo's Mario Power Tennis Website says that Daisy is Peach's sister in arms, obviously meaning more of a brotherly love type of relationship than an actual blood relationship. Daisy is not as lady-like as Peach, nor does she show qualities befitting of a true princess.
Luigi

Luigi is Peach's friend. It is hinted that Luigi may have a crush on her. If Luigi rescues her in New Super Mario Bros. or the Super Mario All-Stars remake of Super Mario Bros., Peach rewards Luigi with a kiss, just like she does for Mario. In Super Mario World, she goes on the same romantic romp through the worlds as she would with Mario, if Luigi (Player 2) defeats Bowser. Luigi is seen swooning over her in her Mario Power Tennis victory scene with hearts in his eyes, indicating that Luigi has romantic feelings for her. But it is rumored that Luigi and Daisy have some kind of a relationship. Luigi is showed though to be more in love with Peach.
Bowser

Princess Peach has not escaped the notice of a powerful tyrant. Bowser has repeatedly kidnapped Peach more than ten times. He also torments her kingdom. It has been shown recently he has fallen in love with her, and wants to win her heart. In Super Paper Mario Peach and Bowser supposedely got married making them husband and wife. Alhough they were wed by Count Bleck, who is obviously not authorized to do such a thing, which really means that the wedding was a "sham" and, therefore, unofficial. Later in the game Peach states the same to Bowser.
Toad

Toad is a loyal servant of Princess Peach who would do anything to protect her.
Toadette

Toadette is another good friend of Peach. They share good chemistry in Mario Superstar Baseball.

Princess Peach presides over the Mushroom Kingdom from her huge castle. Her loyal subject Toad does his best to protect her but always seems to fail spectacularly. Besides her royal duties, Peach is interested in both tennis and golf; since she's so magnanimous, she'll even deign to play a few matches with the evil Bowser.
Adventure
Peach's ability to float is invaluable in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as she can return from incredible distances. Balancing this talent, though, is the fact that she's quite light and can be sent flying with a single powerful attack. Her attacks are fairly weak, so you'll have to hang around to win.
All-Star
Peach's Smash A attack will set her swinging with either a frying pan, tennis racket, or golf club. These bludgeoning devices appear randomly and have different reaches and power levels. The princess uses Toad to absorb attacks, and he counters by sending spores out at attackers. Don't worry about the little guy, though; he takes his job seriously.

- In Super Paper Mario, it was possible to have Peach temporarily wear her hair in a ponytail. She simply had to visit Bleu's house in Flopside's first floor and talk to Bleu. The only other times Peach weared her hair like this in the game were at the wedding scene at the beginning and in Chapters 4-1 and 4-3. It only lasts till the player changed characters or left the floor.
- Peach's number in Super Mario Strikers is 10.
- Peach was one of the many Marioverse characters put into Nintendo Monopoly. She cost $220, and took the place of Indiana Avenue.
- There is a possible reference to her name change when she is eaten by Belome he says she tasted Peachy.
- Peach's emblem in various games is a heart or her crown. In the Super Smash Bros. Series it is a Mushroom.
- According to her dialogue in Super Paper Mario, Peach prefers spicy foods (such as Spicy Soup) over other dishes.
- An item called the Peach Kart, a remote control kart with the princess, appeared in Nintendogs, and was only unlockable in Lab & Friends. Puppies liked to chase after it, and when it drove around, the music from Peach Beach played.
