The level starts out on a large mushroom platform, with three rotating mushroom blocks serving as the first obstacles seen in the level. More regular mushroom platforms follow. Above these there are three sets of Brick Blocks running along lines. One of these is a ? Block which contains a Propeller Mushroom. There are then two large, green rotating mushroom blocks, the second of which contains the second Star Coin at the edge of it. After there are some purple  mushroom platforms and a mechanism that change the platform height by shaking the Wii Remote while the player stands on top of the oversized screw. These platforms start off in such a position where the player will need to either activate the screw or have a Propeller Mushroom handy. If the player raises the fourth platform high enough, they will be able to obtain a Red Ring from an elevated yellow platform.

<< Directory of levels >>

World 1-5 is the first athletic level in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the sixth level of World 1. All of the platforms are designed like mushrooms, and the only enemies are Koopa Troopas and their winged counterparts. It is unlocked by completing World 1-4. This level is not required to progress in the game—completing either World 1-5 or World 1-6 unlocks World 1-Castle. This is the first level to feature the athletic theme.

Layout[edit]

The level starts out on a large Mushroom Platform, with three rotating mushroom blocks serving as the first obstacles. More regular Mushroom Platforms follow. Above these, there are three sets of bricks running along lines. One of these is a ? Block, which contains a Propeller Mushroom. There are then two large green rotating mushroom blocks, the second of which contains the second Star Coin at the edge of it. After that, there are some Screwtop Shrooms and a mechanism that changes the platform height by shaking the Wii Remote while the player stands on top of the oversized screw. These platforms start off in such a position where the player needs to either activate the screw or have a Propeller Mushroom handy. If the player raises the fourth platform high enough, they are able to obtain a Red Ring from an elevated yellow platform.

Next there is the midway point, after which there is a set of bricks guided by a line moving notably faster than the ones seen earlier. There are a few blocks in the middle of this line and some coins floating above, as well as a single red Koopa Troopa on the blocks. There is another line that two separate bricks follow circumnavigating a green Mushroom Platform. Standing on one of the bricks allows the player to touch another Red Ring. The rest of the level contains more rotating mushroom blocks, which lead to the pole, guarded by Koopa Paratroopas.

Star Coins[edit]

 • Star Coin 1: In the area with three rail rides (two with a brick and a ? Block, and one with two bricks), Mario and co. must get on top of one of the bricks on the middle rail ride, then jump up to a platform directly above. Hitting one of the bricks on the right of the platform will reveal a vine, which leads to a secret area. The first Star Coin is then surrounded by several coins and seven rail-riding ? Blocks, which must be used to reach the Star Coin.
 • Star Coin 2: The second Star Coin is located shortly after the exit drop from the area with the first Star Coin. To get it, Mario and co. must get on the right edge of the green mushroom block, descend to the Star Coin, then immediately jump to safety before falling. It can also be obtained with a Propeller Mushroom or by throwing a Koopa shell at it.
 • Star Coin 3: The third Star Coin is located in the long row of red mushroom blocks, floating above a Paratroopa. Mario and co. must jump over the Paratroopa to get it.
