Piranha Plants are carnivorous plants that make up four different families in Plant Taxonomy: The True Piranha Plants and Smilax (such as Megasmilax), the Nipper Plants (such as the Naval Piranha), the Delfino Piranhas (such as Petey Piranha), and the Putrid Piranhas and False Piranha Plants (such as the Lava Piranha). The Piranha Plants spawn via seedlings, but the other two families spawn via spores. The only True Piranha Plant in the Nipper Family is the Naval Piranha. There is a giant species in each family.

Known leaders of Piranha Plants include the Naval Piranha, Petey Piranha, and the Lava Piranha. Piranha Plants are native to the Piranha Grove of Yoshi's Island.
