K'NEX is an American-made building toy created by Joel Glickman and originally released in 1993 by K'NEX Industries. The K'NEX building system involves using rods, connectors, wheels, bricks, and other components which "snap" together to create models.

In 2011, K'NEX began producing licensed sets based on the Mario franchise. Sets have been made based upon several games, starting with Mario Kart Wii and later expanding into Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. Several sets have also been made not specifically based on any game, simply using the "Super Mario" branding. Additionally, confirmed for release are sets based upon Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Mario Kart 8.
