The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series is a DVD release of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 containing all 26 episodes and bonus features within a 3-disc boxset. It was released on June 26, 2007 by Shout! Factory.[1]

The cover to the boxset is reminiscent of the cover art to Super Mario Bros. 3, featuring Raccoon Mario flying in the air while King Koopa looks on, angry. The Koopa Kids appear on the checkerboarded floor, alongside Frog Luigi.

On May 14, 2013, NCircle Entertainment reissued the boxset as The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series - Collector's Edition. Other than trailer changes, this release is the same as the Shout! Factory release.[3] The cover art to this version also features the artwork of Cape Mario from Super Mario World.

The boxset was released once again by NCircle on November 14, 2023.[4] This version of the release is different from the prior two, as it does not contain any special features like the German release by Pidax Film. The front cover reuses the artwork from the King Koopa Katastrophe DVD but has a different background image featuring Grass Land. The back cover features two screenshots from the Super Mario World animated series and artwork of Yoshi, despite the series predating the game in which the character debuted.

Original release[edit]

"When it premiered as part of NBC's Saturday morning lineup in the Fall of 1990, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 helped catapult the record-breaking game it was based on into video game history.

After sending the infamous King Koopa into the Banishment Zone, the heroic plumbers, Mario and Luigi, finally make it home to Brooklyn. But just when the Mushroom People think they're safe, Koopa escapes and brings with him seven of the most vile creatures the world has ever known, the Koopa Kids!

Now only the Super Mario Bros. can rid the Mushroom Kingdom of Koopa and his deviant minions... or can they?"

Collector's Edition[edit]

"Join Mario™ and Luigi™ in this complete series set as they fight to protect the Mushroom Kingdom!

Just when Mario and Luigi thought the Mushroom Kingdom was safe from the schemes of the evil King Koopa, the unexpected happens, King Koopa escapes! Worse – Koopa brings the Koopa Kids along with him! Now Mario and Luigi must protect the Mushroom Kingdom from King Koopa and the Koopa Kids before it's too late!

Enjoy the complete series of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3™ in this three disc set!"

The 2023 re-release of the DVD omits the final line.

German release[edit]

The Super Mario Brothers are back and embark on new exciting adventures. The greatest challenge comes from King Koopa's offspring. Together with his children, he plans evil attacks on Princess Toadstool and her kingdom. Naturally, the world's best plumber brothers must rush to help...

This 13-episode animated series is the continuation of the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" and is based on the successful video game "Super Mario Bros. 3," but also references the earlier games. An absolute highlight for fans of the Nintendo game and cartoon enthusiasts. Pidax presents the series in both German dubbed versions for the first time. Unfortunately, only the episode "Up, Up, and a Koopa" no longer has the original dub.

On December 4, 2007, to tie in with the release of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Shout! Factory released a double-set that contained this boxset alongside the first volume of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.[5]

Errors[edit]

  • Most of the songs are referred as different names instead of their official names.
    • Do the Frog is listed as "The Frog".
    • Double Crossing is listed as "The Double Cross".
    • In My Frog Suit is listed as "My Frog Suit".
    • It's a Dog's Life is listed as "Life Of A Dog".
    • When Koopas Paint the Town is listed as "Town Painting".
    • Stench City is listed as "Smelly Town".
  • The concept art selection for "Dadzilla" showcases the "Misadventure of Mighty Plumber" concept art instead.
  • On the original DVD release, Raccoon Mario is depicted with his modern color scheme (red shirt and blue overalls) as opposed to being swapped like in the show (blue shirt and red overalls). The eyes on Frog Luigi's Frog Suit are also colored with white sclerae and green pupils instead of yellow sclerae and black pupils.
  • On the Collector's Edition and 2023 re-releases, the back cover features a screenshot of "Mama Luigi" from the Super Mario World television series, despite this episode not appearing on the DVD set.
  • On the Collector's Edition re-release, Cape Mario is depicted on the front cover, despite him not appearing in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.
  • On the 2023 re-release, Luigi's eyes are colored blue like Mario's instead of green.

Glitches[edit]

The Gray Screen appearing when Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool see Koopa's doomship.
An example of a glitch from the episode "Super Koopa." When Mario and his friends see Koopa's Doomship, a gray screen appears.

Two of the episodes on the boxset have been affected with glitches and bugs, due to Shout! Factory being supplied defective master tapes from DIC Entertainment. The NCircle version of the boxset retains the glitches and bugs due to it using the same masters as the Shout! Factory version.

  • In "The Venice Menace," the episode glitches near the end when the Venice pizza man explains that Marco Polo's Plumbers brought plumbing back from China.
  • "Super Koopa" is the most severely affected out of all the episodes.
    • Gray screens appear when Mario and his friends see Koopa's Doomship and when King Koopa blows smoke from his nose.
    • An audio dropout occurs when Mario tells the captain that Koopa is "hopping mad."
