I'm gonna remove the blurry pic, unless there's any objections to it. Anyone?

What do you mean by "blurry pic"? The artwork? In that case, no. Gofer

Subspecies[edit]

How are Clubbas a subspecies of Spikes?

In case anyone considers splitting Yoshi's Story Gabons from Spikes[edit]

So according to Walkazo here, merging Gabon article with Spike article shoudn't have happened because this proposal should have been no quorum. I'm going to make some points why I support this merge. These points are based on appearance, function and name (the three that I feel are the most used points).

  • Appearance: Gabons display some drastic differences from Spikes, mainly the lack of hair, different eyes and padded stomach. But they do have shells like Spikes. Appearance is thus debatable.
  • Function: Both spit spiked balls and throw them. So that's a point for how they act.
  • Name: This Japanese Yoshi's Story video shows that Gabon is indeed called ガボン gabon in Japan, and thus its Japanese name officially matches with Spike's. This also means that the translators got That's another point for having Gabon in Spike article.

So in the end, aside from appearance, Gabon and Spike should be kept in a single article imo because the name matches and because they behave quite similarly.

And now that I'm here, could we move this talk page to Talk:Spike page? It's really confusing to see the redirect and the redlink "article" folder on the top. Especially when this Spike's article is currently named "Spike". SmokedChili (Talk) (Thoughts) 12:59, 4 May 2015 (EDT)

"--the translators got the name wrong." is what I meant to say about the name being a point. SmokedChili (Talk) (Thoughts) 05:54, 5 May 2015 (EDT)

Decide if Spikes are a derived species of Koopas[edit]

Spikes are Koopas 2-10
On the Spike’s page, it is explained that Spike is a Koopa and a derived species. I took the time to check Spikes’s physic and those of a few Koopas and I do not think Spike are a species of Koopas as it is currently indicated on Spike’s page. Spike’s skin can be green, blue or sky blue in color (Spike, Stone Spike and Snow Spike). While Koopas have yellow skin (except Morton Koopa Jr. apparently). Secondly, I do not think there is a clue or a source which implies that Spike is a Koopa.

Spikes are not Koopas (make changes)[edit]

  1. LudwigVon (talk)
#Magikrazy (talk) Yeah, there are fewer visible similarities than Magikoopas or Hammer Bros, which are not listed as direct sub-species of Koopas in the template. Really, Spikes are as much Koopas as Rocky Wrenches.
  2. 3D Player 2010 (talk) per Magikrazy.

Spikes are Koopas (do nothing)[edit]

  1. Walkazo (talk) - If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. Koopas have had green and blue skin too (and grey and red), so that point's completely moot. Spikes (and Clubbas) are both very similar to Boom Boom and Dragon-Koopas Bowser's species in design (overall build, snouts, belly scutes in some designs, shells - even shell spikes when you include Macho Grubba and Tubba Blubba), and they've always been associated with the Koopa Troop, so it's not an unreasonable connection. There are numerous oddball (yet confirmed) Koopas, like Chargin' Chucks, Snooze-A-Koopas and Spike Koopas, not to mention the species with far more in common with dragons than Koopa Troopas, and unlike Rocky Wrenches, there's not any other enemy group or even basic animal type to associate them with, nor recent design changes that seem to be distancing them from the Koopas. The fact that Koopa's cousin was named Spike also helps the case they they're supposed to be Koopas in the game too: there were lots of names to choose from, after all. Drawing connections is allowed as long as it's straightforward, logical and helps with organization and comprehension, and while it'd probably be good to note that there hasn't been an explicit confirmation that they're Koopas that we know of (surprisingly), I feel like it'd be going too far to say they're definitely not Koopas and strip them from all related pages and {{Koopas}}: the simplest answer is usually the right one, and it makes navigation easier to have things associated where people'd expect them to be.
  2. Niiue (talk) They have more in common with Koopas than anything else. Barring the one-off mention of them being "Mace Penguins" (which was probably just Nintendo Power making things up), there isn't any reason to believe they aren't Koopas (especially when you factor in how varied Koopas have looked between games).
  3. Tails777 (talk) Per Walkazo.
  4. BabyLuigi64 (talk) Per Walkazo.
  5. PowerKamek (talk) Per Walkazo.
  6. Magikrazy (talk) Alright, I guess I misunderstood something here. I thought this proposal was deciding if Spikes are derived from Koopa Troopas specifically. I always get Koopas and Troopas mixed up. Per Walkazo.
  7. Chocolate Mario (talk) Per Walkazo.
  8. Pseudo-dino (talk) Per Walkazo.
  9. Bazooka Mario (talk) So, a good rule of thumb is if they're turtle-y enough and are strongly associated with the Koopa Troop, then it's a good bet that they're derivative of Koopas. I say that Spikes aren't too far from Koopas just as how Lakitus aren't too far from Koopas. Per Walkazo and Occam's razor.
  10. Yoshi876 (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

Shouldn't this be on Talk:Spike, seeing as how this is the talkpage for an article that no longer exists? Niiue (talk) 20:22, 13 December 2015 (EST)

Okay wait, that redirects to here. So we have an article without a talkpage and a talkpage without an article. Niiue (talk) 20:24, 13 December 2015 (EST)

Why's you switch it to "parent" species? "Derived" was right: now it's saying Koopas came from Spikes (Spikes being the parent of the Koopas), which no one is saying. - Walkazo 22:44, 13 December 2015 (EST)

I wanted to say that Koopas are parent of Spikes but I think it's completely the opposite of what my proposal is saying.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 23:04, 13 December 2015 (EST)

Walkazo , it is not because Spikes are affiliated to the Koopa Troop they are Koopas. Shy Guy are not Koopas, Goombas are not Koopas, Piranha Plants are not Koopas and a lots of others species are affiliated to the Koopa Troop, but it don't make them Koopas.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 22:49, 13 December 2015 (EST)

No, it's because of all the other reasons I listed that they're Koopas. But if these guys were Wario enemies, or were otherwise never involved in Koopa Troop plans, folks would definitely be citing that as a reason why saying they're Koopas is baseless speculation, so the fact that they are closely linked with all the other Koopas is a perfectly fair point to include with the rest of the arguments. - Walkazo 00:04, 14 December 2015 (EST)

Talk:Spike (enemy)?[edit]

Why isn't this called Talk:Spike? The article itself is called Spike. I tried moving it just now, but Talk:Spike is currently a redirect to this page. I would fix this myself, but I'm not sure if cut and pasting everyone's comments is allowed.

I wouldn't be making as much of an issue about this, but there is no redirect to Spike called Spike (enemy), so to get to Spike from this page is more of a hassle than it needs to be. Can we rename this Talk:Spike please? Magikrazy (talk)

I feex Niiue (talk) 20:32, 13 December 2015 (EST)
No. Next time, have an admin delete the redirect that's in the way and move the content and its history: copying and pasting is NOT the proper way to move articles or their talk pages. - Walkazo 21:50, 13 December 2015 (EST)

Template for Spikes?[edit]

This species really needs a template. About half of the species under "miscellaneous koopas" are subspecies of Spike. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:17, 15 May 2017 (EST)

Clubba[edit]

Shouldn't the Clubba count as a related species of Spikes than a derived one? MLSSBMTashrooba.pngVOIDTHIS (talk)MLSSBMShroobRex.png 20:44, 17 November 2017 (CET)

No, since Clubbas are clearly designed after spikes in mind. They share the same body build and features such as green skin, small shells, and large lips, and they both have spiked iron ball attacks. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 15:02, 17 November 2017 (EST)

I think it's about time we got a new quote for the top of the page, the current one isn't even said by a Spike. I don't have any ideas myself, but there is quite a lot of Spike dialogue in Color Splash and The Origami King. I'll take a look at their battle quotes from the former too.
