Wastebasket page[edit]

It wouldn't be too much of an issue, but the article title comes from a specific subtype with a specific function, design, and appearance, while the article itself remains being about appearances of rockets in general. Coupled with the poor organization, there's definitely some amount of splitting and reorganizing that needs done here. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:46, January 24, 2025 (EST)

Looks to me that things are basically okay here. Like, you could say its "Rockets as transitions" which lops off Paper Jam and Mario Party 7. And that's it. It's still stuck being called Mini Rocket. I could also see cutting away 3D World for being as big as it is, of a different color, and goes between worlds instead of levels, but the fact it is in the same series makes me more inclined to allow it on the same grounds vine includes Skyward Stalk. Reorganize this page[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Well, now this page is a mess. What was originally supposed to cover the little screen-transition rocket from SMB2 got more and more haphazardly tacked on over time, transforming into a katamari of various unrelated rockets. Let's untangle this mess, shall we?

  • The rocket from Super Mario Bros. 2: The original subject. No matter what outcome is taken, this should be covered somewhere, as it is a distinct subject.
  • The rocket from Yoshi's Island DS: The first rocket to be added to the page. It has a unique look and it functions completely differently to the original rocket, placing Yoshi in a little minigame section much like the other vehicle segments in YIDS (see this video for reference). Personally, I believe this should be split. If these were the only two rockets, it might make sense to keep them merged, but with the context of future additions, it is simply too different.
  • The rocket from Super Mario 3D World: These exist exclusively in the overworld map, and serve as two-way transportation in and out of the various postgame worlds. However, this is a conical-shaped white rocket with a single round window and colored tips and fins, serving as a transition between two separate areas, appearing in a game that already heavily references SMB2. Even if we cannot completely prove they are intended to be the same exact subject, I think it's best to keep it merged.
  • The rocket from Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam: ...why is this here? Is this only here because the page used to just be called "Rocket", so it was treated as a generic page a la Watermelon? Considering this already has its own page, we don't need to argue whether we split or merge it; all we have to do is decide if it should be mentioned in this page. Personally, I think this mention should be removed, as the resemblance is merely circumstantial.
  • The rocket from Super Mario Odyssey: This is the source of the "Mini Rocket" name. While the different name, smaller size, and tweaked design might turn some people off, this rocket is absolutely the closest in function to the one in SMB2, serving as a transition between two level areas. Even if you have to capture it to operate it, I think it would be foolish not to keep it merged.
  • The rocket from Mario & Luigi: Brothership: ...this makes even less sense than the Paper Jam one. It looks nothing like the SMB2 one, and its only function is as a cutscene plot device. This should absolutely be split, as it has no relation to the SMB2 rocket besides both happening to be rockets.
  • ...oh, the gallery has the rocket from Mario Party 7 too? Considering the page itself does not even bother to mention it, and what I said about the Paper Jam and Brothership rockets, I definitely think this should be removed. It doesn't need its own page, being a board prop in Neon Heights, and it looks the least like SMB2's rocket out of any of the examples listed.

Of course, not everyone will agree with me 100%, so I've made this a poll proposal to allow people to vote independently on it.

Proposer: EvieMaybe (talk)

The rocket from Yoshi's Island DS should be...[edit]

Split the rocket from Yoshi's Island DS 4-0
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Split
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per.
  3. Wandering Poplin (talk) It's just a rocket. No reason to include it on this particular page.
  4. Nintendo101 (talk) Per eviemaybe.
Kept merged

The rocket from Super Mario 3D World should be...[edit]

Keep the rocket from Super Mario 3D World merged 1-5
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC) Extended to January 9, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Split
  1. Wandering Poplin (talk) Aside from transporting Mario between areas, I see no reason to assume this were meant to be the same object.
Kept merged
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. Nintendo101 (talk) per eviemaybe. Super Mario 3D World takes a lot of visual and conceptual inspirations from Super Mario Bros. 2 to be begin with, so the ideas may even be intentionally related.
  3. Power Flotzo (talk) Per evie.
  4. LadySophie17 (talk) Per proposal.
  5. SuperGamer18 (talk) Per all.

The rocket from Super Mario Odyssey should be...[edit]

Keep the rocket from Super Mario Odyssey merged 0-4
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Split
Kept merged
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. Wandering Poplin (talk) This feels more like "similar idea," rather than "same entity." But since they have the same name...
  3. Nintendo101 (talk) Absolutely.
  4. Power Flotzo (talk) Per the others.

The rocket from Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam should be...[edit]

Remove the rocket from Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam 6-0
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Removed
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Would need a bit to think on the others, but this and the Mario Party 7 one definitely should go. It's not named after the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket, it's not styled after the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket, it's not even colored like the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket... Why is it on the page of the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket? It's already got its own page, Rocket Blast. Which... Is linked here.
  3. PrincessPeachFan (talk): Per.
  4. Wandering Poplin (talk) Anything we'd need to say about this rocket could easily fit on the Rocket Blast page.
  5. Nintendo101 (talk) Per all.
  6. Arend (talk) Already has a page of its own.
Kept merged

The rocket from Mario & Luigi: Brothership should be...[edit]

Split the rocket from Mario & Luigi: Brothership 5-0
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Split
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) By proxy, this rocket modeled off the Paper Jam one and similarly has nothing in common with the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket should be split off.
  3. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per.
  4. Wandering Poplin (talk) It's just a rocket, and bares virtually no resmblance to the SMB2 Rocket.
  5. Nintendo101 (talk) Not related.
Kept merged

The rocket from Mario Party 7 should be...[edit]

Remove the rocket from Mario Party 7 5-0
Deadline: January 2, 2026, 23:59 (UTC)

Removed
  1. EvieMaybe (talk) per proposal.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per our vote on the Paper Jam one, and also, seriously, look at the Super Mario Bros. 2 rocket, and then just look at this one.
  3. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per.
  4. Wandering Poplin (talk) My knowledge of Mario Party 7 is somewhat shaky, but this almost certainly doesn't belong on this page.
  5. Nintendo101 (talk) Not related.
Kept merged

Comments[edit]

Should probably also be moved back to "Rocket" because from what I can gather, "Mini Rocket" exclusively refers to the rocket from Odyssey. Hell, the name of the article isn't even reflected in the article's opening! ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 12:05, December 19, 2025 (EST)

if the changes pass as i suggested them, then that would make "Mini Rocket" the most recent name, and therefore the one the page should be named after. — Super Leaf stamp from Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.eviemaybe (talk / contributions) 12:07, December 19, 2025 (EST)
Plus, there's the fact that they've always been called "Mini Rocket" in Japan. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:21, December 20, 2025 (EST)
Have they, though? No citation for the Japanese name is provided, so I can only assume it came from the Japanese version of Mario Odyssey. We can't automatically assume that this is the Japanese name for every instance of the rocket. This is the Flipper situation all over again. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 15:56, December 22, 2025 (EST)
In fact, this page from the official Shogakukan Super Mario All-Stars guide simply calls it ロケット (Roketto, "Rocket"), proving your statement that they've """always""" been called "Mini Rocket" in Japan completely wrong. Again. Like I said back with the Flipper situation, "you cannot just look at the NiOL section and just blindly believe that the names listed there apply to EVERY entity on the page". You did that with the Flipper back then, and my research from the following months proved you wrong too. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 16:18, December 22, 2025 (EST)

I'm likely too late for saying this (not that it matters much considering it wouldn't have belonged here anyways), but the rocket from Mario Party 7 is a bit more than a mere board prop, as it is tied to an Event Space, where one pumps up the rocket to collect coins and even a star if they pump with another person (probably through 8-player mode). Maybe the proposer already knew this, but I dunno, the use of "prop" here seems to imply it's nothing more than a background object that doesn't do anything.
