Durmite: Difference between revisions
(Rewritten, cleared up some serious misconceptions based on coincidences regarding the timing of Biffiduses spawning and the straw appearing. Also providing the massive amount of plot detail left out regarding her, though I may cut back on it down the line) |

Template:Character-infobox Durmite (named "Pillbo" in the Prima strategy guide enemy list[page number needed]) is a caterpillar-like boss found inside Bowser's body in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Durmite has a green-blue Birdo-like face and snout with an angry expression, and wears a hot pink ribbon on her head. Her body resembles that of a real caterpillar as opposed to a Wiggler, with small and stubby pink legs and underbelly, with the rest of her body above the white line being the same color as her head.
A stronger version of Durmite called Durmite X is found later on in The Gauntlet.
History
Durmite resides within the giga-carrot that Bowser eats in order to obtain the Banzai Bill from a Wiggler who runs the Wiggler Family Farm in Dimble Wood. Shortly after leaving the farm, Bowser come down with a painful stomachache and demands Chippy investigate immediately. Mario and Luigi go to the Nerve Cluster to find the source of the pain, and immediately encounter Durmite, who breaks through a wall of bone. Starlow at first mistakes Durmite for a friend of Wiggler's, but gets no response as Durmite simply stomps around instead, causing Bowser more pain. As Starlow wonders how the Durmite got so large, it slowly approaches the group; a trio of white creatures called Biffiduses appear to menace them, only to be shortly eaten by the Durmite and trigger another growth spurt. Mario suggests they have little choice but to stop the Durmite in order to relieve Bowser's pain; Starlow reluctantly agrees, but Luigi refuses, and the pair are forced to push him into battle.
Once defeated, Durmite shrinks down to a minuscule size and runs away. Later, as the Bros. consult Dr. Toadley in Toad Town and learn of the three Star Cures, Bowser overhears that the first is located in Dimble Wood and immediately heads off. Starlow then asks about the first Star Sage; Dr. Toadley reveals them to be none other than Durmite, who Starlow realizes is still in Bowser's body. The Mario Bros. and Starlow quickly head back into Toad Town and find a pipe to re-enter Bowser's body with; as they come out in the Pipe Yard, the Bros. spot Durmite and try to catch her, but fail. The trio follow her into the Energy Hold, where they lose her under a set of Boo-faced blocks as Luigi plummets into the Energy Hold's pits repeatedly.
Once Bowser eventually discovers the Tower of Yikk and gains access to it after defeating the tower in the game's second giant battle, he encounters Yikk himself, who shows him how to operate the Boo-ray Machine. The machine's light causes the barrier of blocks to disappear, and the Bros. proceed, using its light to navigate further through the Energy hold until they eventually happen upon Durmite. It then escapes through a door under a star-shaped gate, which can only be opened once Mario and Luigi obtain all five pieces of the Star Panel. They soon catch up to Durmite, and Luigi sneaks up on the Star Sage and tries to catch them with his hat repeatedly, only for Durmite to eventually escape by burrowing under him and Mario. After a few failed attempts, Durmite manages to escape again, spraying gas in Luigi's face as she does.
After pursuing Durmite far enough, she finally loses patience and yells at the Mario Bros. for their persistence. She reveals her true name to be Wisdurm and challenges them to a battle for ownership of the Star Cure (during which Wisdurm's smaller form is referred to as "Durmite" by the game). Upon defeat, she assumes her true form and keeps her promise, giving up the Star Cure the Mario Bros. before clearing two obstacles blocking the entrance to the Joint Tower and disappearing.
Battle
- For the second battle, see Wisdurm.
Durmite can attack by lining up with Mario or Luigi and pulls back, turning her body red similar to a Wiggler; all her segments will slowly or quickly turn red, and she launches herself straight at the target brother, who must counter the attack using their hammer. Durmite can also spit a sticky string from her snout and sweep it sideways at the Mario Bros., who must dodge by jumping over the string as it sweeps toward them each time. If either of them touch it, Durmite pulls them into its mouth, dealing significant damage and possibly inflicting the SPD-Down status; she then lines up with the uneaten brother and ejects the victim from her back end or mouth towards them. The former is dodged by jumping, while the latter causes the brother to fly overhead; being hit by this secondary attack does high damage as well, but stomping on the ejected brother does not damage them. If Durmite KOs one of the Mario Bros. by catching them, she simply spits them back out.
Every few turns, up to three Biffiduses appear and attack Mario and Luigi; they each point their spear and run at one of the Bros., who can dodge by jumping. They are not too strong in terms of HP, and a counterattack jump can sometimes be enough to defeat them. If any Biffiduses are present during Durmite's turn, she may devour them and shoot their spears from her snout at the Mario Bros., with each spear pointing towards its target; the spears can be avoided by jumping. After taking some damage, Durmite starts using up to two attacks in a turn, and at the end of each turn she may produce a purple proboscis-like straw from her mouth, which plants itself into the battlefield underneath. On her next turn, she sucks nutrients from Bowser through the straw to regain her HP; the straw can be easily destroyed after a couple of hits, and doing so before then prevents Durmite from healing.
