“This is Fox. Retuning to base!”
Fox McCloud, Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Fox McCloud (or just Fox) is the leader of the mercenary team known as Star Fox. The team consists of Fox, Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, Krystal and ROB. He is a master of the Arwing, a compact battle ship, and is also proficient as a sharp-shooter on land with his Blaster. His main ship, the Great Fox, is a huge spaceship with laser beam and rocket capabilities. Fox almost always has to rescue the Lylat System from Andross and, very rarely, other evil entities. Fox was also invented by Shigeru Miyamoto, who also created Mario and Link.

Super Smash Bros. Series

Fox is a speedy character, infact he is the second to Captain Falcon in speed in Super Smash Bros. His B moveset consists of his Blaster attack (B) and a Reflector (Down+B). The Blaster can be shot rapidly (with no stun effect) and the Reflector can reflect most projectiles (including items) back the thrower or shooter. In addition, he has a great recovery move, Fire Fox, in which he can shoot fire from his jetpack to fly a few feet in any direction. The downside is that it takes a few seconds to charge so Fox is susceptible to attacks.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Fox adds a new move to his B moveset and can use Fox Illusion (Smash B). Fox Illusion teleports him a few yards horizontally, (even farther than his Up+B move) though it cannot be directed in any other direction. Sometimes it can fail, so it is more of a battle move than a recovery move.

Fox is confirmed to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Although he has lately been seen helmetless, he will follow his original costume design. He may be helmetless for one of his costume changes, though. In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fox jumps out of an Arwing onto the stage to act as his battle entrance.

In the first two games, Fox was voiced by Shinobu Satouchi in both English and Japanese. However, in the cutscene in Super Smash Bros. Melee where Fox's friends come to help, Fox was voiced by Steve Malpass.

Snake Codec Conversation

  • Snake: Colonel! That fox is fast!
  • Colonel: You're fighting Fox, eh, Snake? His full name is Fox McCloud. He's the leader of the commando-for-hire unit Star Fox. They're mostly active in a galaxy known as the Lylat System. Fox and his comrades pilot all-terrain fighter crafts called Arwings. His skills in combat can turn the tide of any battle. ...You seem to have a thing with foxes, don't you, Snake?
  • Snake: Don't remind me. First FOXHOUND and now this guy... I'm sick of foxes.
  • Colonel: You and foxes have a long history together. You ought to be proud.

Role in Subspace Emissary

Fox rides his Arwing in the begining trying to take down the Halberd, however the Arwing is hit and it falls down. It is later shown that the Arwing crash-landed at the edge of a jungle, near a lake. Diddy Kong discovers the Arwing, but Rayquaza rises from the lake and territorially attacks it. As Diddy is snatched up by the provoked Pokémon, Fox springs from the cockpit of the burning Arwing and proceeds to effortlessly rescue Diddy from the clutches of the serpentine Pokémon using his Fox Illusion and Reflector. In a recent video it shows Fox & Diddy team up and eventually run into Bowser who tries to do the same thing to them as Wario did to the Princess the player doesn't save in the story.

Appearances in Other Media

He can also be briefly seen in the comic "Super Mario: Verloren in der Zeit" from the same magazine, watching the Olympics with Peppy Hare and Falco Lombardi.

Classic

Fox McCloud is the leader of a band of adventurers-for-hire known as Star Fox. Fox and his fellow pilots Peppy, Slippy, and Falco patrol the Lylat system in their mother ship, the Great Fox. From the cockpit of his Arwing, Fox leads the ceaseless pursuit of the evil scientist Andross, who doomed Fox's father.

Adventure

Fox is among the quickest and nimblest of the Smash Bros. characters. His speed is offset by low firepower, however, and he's better at one-on-one fights than melees with multiple foes. His Blaster is unique: it does damage but it doesn't make enemies flinch. His Fox illusion is best used as a surprise attack.

All-Star

Fox falls quickly, so he's a tough target to strike from below; however, this advantage can work against him when he goes flying sideways. You can use the Control Stick to set the direction of the Fire Fox technique while it's charging up. On a side note, Fox is also much lighter than he was in the N64 Super Smash Bros. game.
