Cousins[edit]

Isn't Wario Luigi's cousin?Stanly the bugman should be mentioned too.User:mr bones

If Wario was Luigi's cousin, then, by extension, he'd also be Mario's cousin. However, this fact has not been confirmed in a main-series game. As far as I'm aware, it's never even been stated in a spin off. As for Stanley: what makes you think he's related to the Marios? Redstar 08:57, 2 January 2010 (EST)

I thought that he's his cousin. Here's what I saw in ign.com: Mario's frequently forgotten cousin Stanley was the bugspray-wielding exterminator in Donkey Kong 3. The story of that sequel was that DK had broken into Stanley's greenhouse and started causing trouble, and it was up to Stan the man to send the big ape packing with the power of potent pesticide.User:mr bones

They were being sarcastic. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Name[edit]

Shouldn't this article be "Mario and Luigi's Family", with a capital F? Fawfulfury65

Only in case it's a proper name, which I don't think it is. Time Questions 19:04, 16 May 2010 (EDT)

Grandmothers[edit]

Shouldn't there be sections about Grandma and the unnamed grandmother? Weegie baby (talk) hour, day month, year

Mario and Luigi[edit]

Mario and Luigi should have their own sections. Weegie baby (talk) 09:55, November 13, 2024 (EST)

Possible relative of the Mario Bros.[edit]

A possible relative of the Mario Bros. in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Plummers Academy"
The man in question

In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Plummers Academy", a man similar in appearance to Mario and Luigi appears with them, wearing a white shirt with a purple tie, black pants, and brown shoes, who cheers with them as the President of the United States's motorcade drives by. Should this be mentioned in the article? Apikachu68 (talk) 14:23, December 12, 2024 (EST)

Interesting, but without proofs or confirmation, it's a mere coincidence, like the proto-Wario at the beginning of said episode. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 15:52, December 12, 2024 (EST)

FINALLY! YES!!![edit]

I’ve found proof that Stanley’s Mario’s cousin. It’s in IGN. Here: https://www.ign.com/articles/2007/09/28/smash-it-up-from-the-trophy-case. See Stanley’s section. Weegie baby (talk) 18:20, January 1, 2025 (EST)

It's not really officially vetted, so I wouldn't consider this solid evidence, but I guess you can add an asterisk at the end of the article that IGN claims Stanley to be the Mario Bros.'s cousin, in a similar vein to how Prima Guide claims Toadette to be Toad's sister. Sprite of Mario's icon in Mario Party DS It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:13, January 1, 2025 (EST)
What do you mean “asterisk”? You do that… Weegie baby (talk) 18:20, January 1, 2025 (EST)
Unlike Prima, IGN isn’t an official source from Nintendo though, is it? I don’t think this is worth any mention on the wiki as it’s just a gaming journalist projecting their own view online. — Lady Sophie_17 Wiggler Sophie.png(T|C) 21:04, January 1, 2025 (EST)
Probably just say they claimed this but there's no evidence outside of it. We should probably set the record for that in case this crops up again in the future. Sprite of Mario's icon in Mario Party DS It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:12, January 2, 2025 (EST)
Honestly, it sounds more like not much as "cousin" like "family member", but more like "a member of the same franchise" (kinda like saying "Mario and Link are Shigeru's "children"." as in "creations" not actual biological kids), but I don't wanna open another parenthesis like we did with Talk:Mama Mario. BUT... thinking about it, wasn't there a Nintendo magazine that once claimed that Wario was considered Mario's cousin? I'm pretty sure it was also written on his page at one point (I also looked online for this, but outside from unsourced Reddit posts, I didn't find anything, so I can see why it was potentially removed). --My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 05:44, January 2, 2025 (EST)

Stanley[edit]

So, I found another website that said Stanley is Mario's cousin, though I don't know if it's official. You tell me: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1690724557/stanley-the-bugman-rare-mario-character.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Weegie baby (talk).

That's an Etsy listing of a fanmade piece of merchandise. That is very much not official. ;P Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 14:21, January 22, 2025 (EST)

Baby Luigi[edit]

LinkTheLefty pointed out that in a manga Baby Luigi was Mario and Peach’s son. Can we add him? Here is the link they used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g0uXcTF3mA&t=281s. Weegie baby (talk) 13:17, January 24, 2025 (EST)

It's worth a mention, but it was its own story (sort of like a parody in which cartoon characters play the roles of a fairy tale). My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 14:04, January 24, 2025 (EST)
But can we add it to the article or not? Weegie baby (talk) 14:26, January 24, 2025 (EST)
OH, right: Mario and Luigi aren't in the page. Maybe in a trivia section, so we can also include the Peach of this continuity? My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 14:29, January 24, 2025 (EST)
I actually wanted to add a trivia section since when I found that IGN article stating Stanley is Mario’s cousin, but I didn’t think that was enough for a trivia section. But now, I think we could add one. Weegie baby (talk) 14:39, January 24, 2025 (EST)
I've said this before in your family proposal, but I think it's not a good idea to blindly trust that IGN article you found. It's not an article that reports on official information, but rather an opinion piece speculating which Trophies in Melee could be seeing an upgrade in Brawl (and is thus not very verifiable as a source); even then, the "cousin" may be meant in a more metaphorical sense anyway (both Mario and Stanley have been protagonists in arcade Donkey Kong games where they had to duke against the titular ape, so they're kinda analogous to each other regardless of family relations). Actually, I'm not the only one who refuted the article you blindly believed, am I? ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 14:12, January 25, 2025 (EST)

Wario[edit]

I’ve found this link. Is it reliable? Here it is: https://www.facebook.com/yagodesignwrap/posts/bad-cousin-of-mad-mario-wario-wrapper-vollverklebtde-ihr-team-f%C3%BCr-folierung-und-/4829131913768347/ Weegie baby (talk) 13:29, January 25, 2025 (EST)

No. It's just some guy's custom design I think. Technetium (talk) 13:32, January 25, 2025 (EST)
I think they were referring to the wording of the Facebook post ("Bad Cousin of Mad Mario. Wario!") rather than the design of the car. However, I'd also say no to this, since the Facebook user Yagodesign is not officially associated with Nintendo in any way we know of. This means that the custom design for the car in said post is unofficial, as are the words in the very same post. And who the heck is Mad Mario, anyway? I don't remember Mario ever being called that.
@Weegie baby, may I advise you to stop looking for evidence at random Etsy products, random Facebook posts, or random articles; and instead look for evidence at official Nintendo websites, official Nintendo social media, official Nintendo manuals, and officially licensed guide books and magazines (see this for more info). Mario’s frequently forgotten cousin[edit]

I know you won’t care for this, but here: [1]. Weegie baby (talk) 16:44, February 20, 2025 (EST)

A random bio on IGN is not a reliable source. Technetium (talk) 16:46, February 20, 2025 (EST)
We've debunked the whole "Stanley is Mario's cousin because IGN said so" thing like five times already. We're not going to cave in at the sixth time just because it's on a random IGN biography instead of a random IGN article: it's still an unofficial claim from a non-Nintendo source. Please recall the advice I gave you in the section above. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 16:50, February 20, 2025 (EST)
I just wanted to point it out, I wasn’t trying to make you change your mind. I just wanted to let you know (in these 2 sentences, “you” is in the plural form.) Weegie baby (talk) 17:02, February 20, 2025 (EST)

Princess Peach[edit]

Hello. I'd like to say I think Peach deserves a section in this article. She was Mario's wife in that manga adaptation and in Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō, after all. I know you'll say this isn't canon or something, but hear me out. There are some members in this article that likely aren't canon, such as all the "The Super Mario Brothers Super Show," Mario's mother-in-law or the other manga relatives, but all those have a section. Couldn't the Princess Peach section (and since Peach would have a section, her son with Mario – Luigi — should too) say "non-canon" or something? Think about it. Weegie baby (talk) 09:18, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

We have her being part of the family in the notes, where she was married to Mario and they had Luigi as their son in Super Mario: Wario no Mori. Add the Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō point. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 09:23, May 13, 2025 (EDT)
Ok. Weegie baby (talk) 09:48, May 13, 2025 (EDT)

Wario (again)[edit]

There’s this German comic named “Super Mario: Die Verwandlung” where Doctor Thomas Light tries to clone Mario, but the cloning process fails and Wario is created, instead of a normal, simple, Mario clone. Well, doesn’t that mean that, in that comic, Wario is Mario’s brother, or something? Weegie baby (talk) 16:16, June 13, 2025 (EDT)

No, this Wario is simply Mario's "Mr. Hyde" (not in the simple sense that he's his dark side, specifically, he's the representation of the illness that is making Mario's pixellated). Nothing more nor really worth an addition in this page. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 16:25, June 13, 2025 (EDT)
Ok. Weegie baby (talk) 16:32, June 13, 2025 (EDT)

Yoshi[edit]

Could we add a section for Yoshi? He is Luigi's adopted son in the Super Mario World television series. Weegie baby (talk) 11:02, June 22, 2025 (EDT)

Eh... pretty iffy territory, there. I see your reasoning... but is it real adoption? After all, only Baby Yoshi calls him "mama" and once because of the final punchline as an adult. This "relationship" is never brought up (except in one line in the live action movie sequel comic). For now, we can have it in the trivia section. --My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 11:49, June 22, 2025 (EDT)
Works for me. Weegie baby (talk) 13:58, June 22, 2025 (EDT)

Dr. Mario Nakamatsu[edit]

The article says Dr. Mario Nakamatsu’s relation to Mario if any is unknown, but from what I know, Dr. Mario Nakamatsu is Dr. Mario and in the Kodansha manga Dr. Mario is Mario. See what I mean? Kinoppe would be Mario’ granddaughter. Right? Correct me respectfully if I’m wrong. Balugio (talk) 13:57, September 20, 2025 (EDT)

No, the first Dr. Mario, from the Dr. Mario manga IS Mario. But in Super Mario World 9 (that was never made into a volume), this new guy appears Dr. Mario Nakamatsu. While identical, he has some differences (like the hair sometimes), he even has a Nurse Peach that has a design more faithful with the games, compared to manga Peach that doesn't have the heart-shaped bangs. This guy comes from the future, has Kinoppe as a grandaughter, but (at least, from what I can gather from the volumes) he has no confirmed relations to Mario. Maybe they explain it in his debut, but I cannot put my hands on it, I can only entrust some wikipedia pages and Japanese Mario wikis/wikias (which still don't say anything about it). My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 15:08, September 20, 2025 (EDT)
No way, I also use the Japanese Wikipedia and wikis. Anyway, guess we’ll have to wait and see if we find something. Balugio (talk) 15:33, September 20, 2025 (EDT)
FOUND IT! "Super Mario World 9?" I wish, found just a sketch, Kinoppe's first page and a chapter page of SMW8 so far... According to aniwotawiki, he is not related to Mario. "He is a descendant of the Edo period inventor "Mariottogennai" (毬夫源内). [...] His name is inspired by the inventor Dr. Nakamatsu." Is this name official? Balugio (talk) 16:45, November 10, 2025 (EST)

What name? My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 19:09, November 10, 2025 (EST)
The name of the article. Has any source ever said “Mario and Luigi’s family?” Balugio (talk) 12:11, November 12, 2025 (EST)
I don't think so. I haven't come across any sources that refer to the Mario Bros.' family as "Mario and Luigi's family." I'd say we put the Conjecture template on the article until evidence of the name being used in official sources is found. Rendered model of a nesting Unagi from New Super Mario Bros. Maw-Ray Master (talk) 09:36, November 13, 2025 (EST)
Ok. Balugio (talk) 12:14, November 15, 2025 (EST)
Why do we need to determine an "official name" for something basic and straightforward as "Mario and Luigi's family"? It's like how this wiki slapped a "citation needed" for pickup trucks that are blatantly obviously pickup trucks. Sprite of Mario's icon in Mario Party DS It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 12:29, November 15, 2025 (EST)
The only exception I can think of off the top of my head are specialized/sub articles like lists, though this is pretty much a list article. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:38, November 15, 2025 (EST)
Closest thing I found is in the interviews about their Movie role and designs: "Mario family" in the Polygon interview.[1] My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 13:04, November 15, 2025 (EST)
Then let’s move it to “Mario family?” I mean, only the article said Mario family and not the person being interviewed, but it seems like the wiki doesn’t really care if it’s the person being interviewed in that website or if it’s the part of the interview without any sources, y’know what I mean? Balugio (talk) 09:39, November 16, 2025 (EST)

Hey, it’s Nakamtsu. Again.[edit]

https://x.com/kazzuki2005/status/1657895952144011264 Just see this. Also, this https://x.com/kazzuki2005/status/1449179964742373377 is odd. Balugio (talk) 12:33, December 6, 2025 (EST)

I saw them and I have already them saved, but from what I understand, that "Super Game Boy" Dr. Mario might be another character. I need to check. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 12:58, December 6, 2025 (EST)
And I have no (fresh) idea where the "Mario Jr." picture was. I dare to say, tho, maybe it was a promotional picture for Baby Mario but it wasn't disclosed what that Baby Mario was yet (remember the time we all thought he was Mario's son? It's probably something like that) My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 13:10, December 6, 2025 (EST)
Well, if someone in this wiki had an X account (which I’m sure someone does,) they could see the comments and see if there’s anything helpful in there. TUMF has an X account for sure. Maybe they could help. Balugio (talk) 16:08, December 6, 2025 (EST)
There's one in total. About "how good" the art is. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 17:29, December 6, 2025 (EST)
What does that mean? Also, sorry I didn't answer sooner. Balugio (talk) 12:35, December 9, 2025 (EST)
The only comment present doesn't lead to anything. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 12:36, December 9, 2025 (EST)
Oh. Well, someone could try to DM the guy asking about the image. Also asking if he has any other images with Dr. Mario Nakamatsu or maybe another possible Mario family member like that Mario Jr. guy. Whatever the case, I guess we could add something in the notes saying something like. In art for the Super Mario Kodansha manga [I guess it’s from there, everything this guy posts is from there], a character resembling Mario with "Jr." written on his hat and Princess Peach is with him.[2] Or something like that. Balugio (talk) 13:43, December 9, 2025 (EST)
Yeah, about that... he died. Like a few months ago. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 15:11, December 9, 2025 (EST)
Ok 🙁. Then let's see if he had family. Someone (not me, I can't for personal reasons) could contacy one of his relatives and ask about stuff. I know this sounds a little crazy, but it might work. Balugio (talk) 08:33, December 10, 2025 (EST)
OR, more likely, someone that can access the manga or the magazine goes out there to find where the art is used and find a context. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 09:20, December 10, 2025 (EST)
That's a good idea, but we don't know where exactly the art is from. Balugio (talk) 09:25, December 10, 2025 (EST)
themushroomkingdom.net and Archive.org My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 09:27, December 10, 2025 (EST)
But that doesn't specify from which volume the art is. Balugio (talk) 09:28, December 18, 2025 (EST)
That's the neat part: YOU search it. (Not) Jokes aside, I checked. I don't see that image anywhere in the online scans of the volumes. MAYBE it's in the cover's wings that were not scanned (shame, there are funny arts and author's comments, but I can ask the ebay sellers to send me photos of them), or is just plain an original art that he didn't manage to post, or it was made for a BomBom Magazine cover or article (in which case... we are screwed). My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 09:45, December 18, 2025 (EST)
So we're screwed? That would be bad, because I'm always looking to expand Mario's family (though usually without any success.) However, there's also that Super Game Boy Dr. Mario from that first image. He could be interesting too. I dunno. Balugio (talk) 11:46, December 18, 2025 (EST)
"Screwed" in the sense, we would need a lot of info we, as not-Japanese cannot easily access (and not cheaply, I might add: I just got the chance to get the SMB3 manga... 300€, in installments, luckily), and differently from ebay, most magazines are on Japanese sites which don't even accept oversea messages. We CAN find them... we need either to be rich to pay trusted guys to buy them for us and send it at our home (all the while KNOWING what to look for) OR we just need to go in Japan, go to a library and make scan there thanks to their archives. Sure we could ask around on the internet or reddit, but even there it's not AS easy to find the right people to ask for. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 11:55, December 18, 2025 (EST)
Ok, I'm currently doing the Super Mario: Donkey Kong 2. I can already tell you... the "Super Game Boy" Dr. Mario is another guy just like Dr. Nakamatsu. I currently put "Hakase Mario" (Professor Mario) for his name, but he is just refered as "Hakase" in the story. I'm checking everything to see if a name appears, but at first glance, nothing yet. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 10:32, January 29, 2026 (UTC)
Ok, I'll be using "Tensai Hakase" (Genius Professor) for this character, from now. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 22:03, January 29, 2026 (UTC)
