Relation?[edit]
is Chucklissa related to Chuckya? WarioLoaf (talk)

Cool. We got an article. - User: Ultimatetoad
About the chucklissa- chuckya thing, just because the names sound the same doesn't mean they are related. I mean, Mario and Wario. Nintendo never confirmed they're relationship, and they're names sound the same. Maxlover2 3D, I signed!
Conjectural?[edit]
Is this name conjectural? Also, we should have an image of all four "friends." -- Son of Suns (talk)
- I don't think it qualifies, because it's obviously a generic name to talk about them all in one article. --Turkishcoffee 06:29, 8 April 2010 (EDT)
Name[edit]
Is this article name conjectural? Because if it is, we should move it to 'Jojora's friends', due to this policy. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 03:13, May 20, 2021 (EDT)
- Seems to be conjectural. Honestly, I think we should just make separate pages for each friend. They all have official names, so if there isn't an official blanket term for them, this page is completely unnecessary. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 04:27, May 20, 2021 (EDT)
- The implication seems to be that they're all the same character, with the whole "choice" thing just being Jojora trolling (as she does). Also, having four mad-lib-identical pages is so redundant it potentially violates the once and only once rule. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:29, May 20, 2021 (EDT)
- So what do we do if there's no official term for Jojora's friends as a whole? I've admittedly been away from the wiki lately, but it seems odd to create an unnecessary conjectural name for the sake of avoiding redundancy. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 06:27, May 20, 2021 (EDT)

Split and transclude[edit]

Wait, MediaWiki supports transclusion. We can totally make "four mad-lib-identical pages" for Chucklissa, Oholina, Hoohoolia, and Teeheena while only writing one page. Just transclude the one written page into the other three pages. This would be more accurate to the game, given that all four of them are different characters. (As Mario storytelling has borne out with Toads, characters can look identical but still be different characters.)
If we were to to do this, I assume we'd write the Chucklissa article, using Template:PAGETITLE to substitute the names of the other three, an "if" function to provide the list of the three other members of Jojora's friend group the page isn't about an another "if" function for the Naming section, and a final "if" function for the Names in other languages section of the page.
I wrote up the "one become four" page on User:Salmancer/Chucklissa. It... uh... well we don't have the parser functions extension so if statements aren't functional, so the page doesn't look the way it should. But if we did have that extension the page is already finished.Salmancer (talk) 15:42, October 20, 2026 (UTC)
- That feels like a strange approach, in practice there is only one "Jojora's friend" in the game. Is the implication really that she has four identical friends? Blinker (talk) 22:39, October 21, 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, this feels like a lot of trouble to go through for what is, essentially, one character with a changeable name, depending on what was answered in an otherwise meaningless query.
- This seems less analogous to a "Toad/Toads" situation, and more akin to splitting the various versions of the Yoshi Kid from The Thousand-Year Door. What is the purpose in doing any of this? Wandering Poplin (talk) 23:04, October 21, 2026 (UTC)
- I assume anything a fictional character says is true unless they are either disproven by the story or the character is known for lying. Jojora doesn't seem like like a categorical liar: the wiki writes statements from her pretty matter of factually. Like, Joke's End has the line, "despite one line of dialogue stated by Jojora suggesting that there are or have been more people living in Joke's End, they seem to be its only occupants", which is pretty soft on saying she's a liar. Also if we are sure there's only one character here who chooses to go by the name Jojora calls for, why is this article named in the plural? Salmancer (talk) 22:06, October 24, 2026 (UTC)
- As one chaos theory mathematician would say, just because you could, doesn't necessarily mean you should. What is the value to be gained by having four identical pages with names scrubbed out and replaced? What new information is being gained there that cannot be adequately be conveyed by only one of four nigh identical copies? How are these four interchangeable sprites more suited for separate articles than Dribble & Spitz? Yellow Toad and Blue Toad? Boo, Goo, Bones, and Kipp? I am strongly against this idea. — Lady Sophie_17

- I also take some further objection to the "all four of them are different characters. (As Mario storytelling has borne out with Toads, characters can look identical but still be different characters.) " claim.
- One important distinction that this statement fails to account for is that, unlike any "ambiguously-defined-Toad-character"-type situation I can recall, these "characters" do not co-exist with each other within the game's storyline.
- Once one of Jojora's friends have been defeated in their boss battle, the other three can never be encountered during that playthrough. They are, for virtually all intents and purposes, one character who happens to have four different possible names.
- There aren't even any color differences/mechanical differences between them like with the Bad Adder/Mad Adder situation, which are also implied to be the same subject. Even [the Kong who shall not be named] had more distinction from their base counterpart than Chucklissa has from Oholina. (Mind you, that's not saying much...) Wandering Poplin (talk) 05:09, October 22, 2026 (UTC)
- I don't really have a defense for this. Of course the wiki that does not split Purple Captain Toad from Captain Toad wouldn't consider doing this. I do think that "for virtually all intents and purposes" is flawed thinking on a wiki about video games, a medium which does actively take advantage of not having player known information to give the illusion of choice. Doors of Doom is "for virtually all intents and purposes" not a minigame where the player makes choices, but the wiki presents it as a minigame where the player makes choices and then says in the Notes section at the end that the player actually doesn't make choices that matter. Happy Lucky Lottery is "for virtually all intents and purposes" not actually random in ways that matter, but the wiki initially presents it in the same way the video game does, then reveals in the next section that the randomness is cosmetic and that the real game is checking the Happy Lucky Lottery on the correct day. Salmancer (talk) 22:06, October 24, 2026 (UTC)
- I don't really have a defense for this for not splitting the other articles. Dribble & Spitz moreso, those two characters share the same scenes but do different things within those scenes. The mess of ifelse statements required to make a single article that serves as both of their articles that accounts for all of those scenes would be so thick so as to substantially increase the difficulty of editing the page. The others are... well yeah you got me. We would presumably end up with splitting the other two pages on the same principle. This would be increasing strict accuracy with no other benefits. (Well, actually it would allow for each member of Boo, Goo, Bones, and Kipp to have separate categories, because we have yet to do a wikiwide pass on making redirects that exist so that group articles don't end up having categories they don't apply to, which is something we actively do as shown by say Firebrand (character). So this actually isn't a benefit since someone will probably eventually make redirects for "Boo (Super Mario RPG character)", "Bones (Super Mario RPG character)", and so on.)
