(First topic)[edit]

Should this page be rewritten? Beyond the introduction paragraph, its just a list of stages and characters. - Mercury MechMech's Spirit sprite from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 04:59, 16 August 2008 (EDT)

An expansion would be helpful, but the obscurity of the game makes it a little difficult to find people who can do that. — Stooben Rooben 05:11, 16 August 2008 (EDT)
I do own the game, so I could expand it; I just need to know what pages like this need. --Mercury MechMech's Spirit sprite from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 01:33, 24 November 2008 (EST)

It needs a LOT more on the story line. - Charmander.pngIts-a-meYoshi!Vapereon.png

The game doesn't have much of a story to begin with, but I can get it from the manual. I'll put it in tomorrow if I have time. Fawfulfury65

That looks a lot better! Thanks. Charmander.pngIts-a-meYoshi!Vapereon.png

Pictures.[edit]

It is for the gameboy which is black and whitish. Any ways the pictures of the gameplay are in color. I am goombob and I love paper mario games (talk) 14:31, 18 May 2013 (EDT)Goombob

Split Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]

Brown Block This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit this section or its subsections. If you wish to discuss the article, please do so in a new section below the proposal.

Don't split 2-6
Per my reasoning to split 25th Anniversary SUPER MARIO BROS., Donkey Kong Original Edition, and the reasoning on the current proposals to split Mario Bros. (Nintendo Classics and New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis. This game was released exclusively in Japan in 2000 for the Game Boy Color with enhanced graphics, acting as an equivalent to today's Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. The currently existing redirect bearing this title is also categorized under "enhanced ports", nearly all of which are currently split.

Don't split GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Unless GB and GBC Wario Land II get split, I see no reason for this to.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Doc Von; unless there was any exclusive content to these versions aside from "one has color", we don't see a reason to split a game that has Game Boy Color compatibility, but still works fine on the original Game Boy. It's the same conundrum you run into with a game like Super Mario Bros. Special, where the game is are functionally identical across the PC-88 and Sharp X1, despite being very, very different audiovisually. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD at least has the argument of subtle game-feel changes to bring it closer to a game like Luigi's Mansion 3, however minor an impact those changes actually have, and naturally gutting Miiverse/Nintendo Network functionality and swapping it out for Nintendo Switch Online; literally, the only differences here are audiovisual-related.
  3. Hewer (talk) I do think many of these proposals to split ports make sense, but this one is going a smidge too far. It's essentially just the Japanese version of the game, I don't see any benefit to covering it in a separate page (and we'd be getting uncomfortably close to splitting Donkey Kong (game) into twenty something articles for all its myriad ports).
  4. Pseudo (talk) Per all.
  5. EvieMaybe (talk) per all (tho i do wanna add LM2 had to be refactored to not use the dual screens as well)
  6. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per all.

Comments GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]

@Doc von Schmeltwick I actually do think the two Wario Land IIs should be split. Both of them feature enhanced graphics (i.e. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe), thus, in my opinion, qualifying for the "enhanced port" label. Nelsonic (talk) 17:31, May 8, 2025 (EDT)

Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong has more differences than adding color, by the way. Just thought I'd point that out. Kaptain Kaptain Skurvy doing a Punch from the Donkey Kong Card Game Skurvy 05:34, May 17, 2025 (EDT)

On one hand, I don't think Wario Land II is the best comparison here, as the re-release is not GBC-only, and this split doesn't seem that farfetched compared to other recent ones. But on the other hand, I'm pretty sure even Nintendo considers them regional counterparts; Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia pg.242, for what it's worth, lists Donkey Kong Land III with US and Japan dates, and there may be other sources that do the same (dates in that section of the book might have been Nintendo-supplied, but I could be mistaken). LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:15, May 17, 2025 (EDT)

Another comparison: Super Mario USA from Super Mario Bros. 2. While the only thing changed in-game is the title screen, the supplementary things got a very large overhaul, with lots of updated artwork. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:47, May 17, 2025 (EDT)

@Kaptain Skurvy: GB may have more differences but they're, like, incredibly minor (e.g. World Maps and Bear aren't animated). That's not really a good reason to split. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 13:12, May 19, 2025 (EDT)

From the looks of things, all the changes are either audiovisual, are related to the Game Boy Color's hardware (we've established this is not worthy of a split with the Japanese home computer titles), or are a single bugfix. The most substantial change we can see is... Not displaying the latest time in Time Attack, technically losing a feature. By the same token of many, MANY early arcade ports, losing a feature does not a "unique port" make; we don't track "dehanced ports" as their own thing, and probably never will.
