Lane Change is a Coin minigame in Super Mario Party Jamboree. Its name comes from a driving term of the same name for when drivers want to move out of one lane into another.

Introduction[edit]

The player character is shown inside their vehicle before a track, stopped.

Gameplay[edit]

The player controls a hovering vehicle on a five-lane track that continues indefinitely throughout the minigame. Players can move between each lane next to each other as they advance along the track, collecting coins as they do so. The player begins at the lowest speed and can speed up to the highest speed at five levels. They can also alternatively slow down. Coins are placed in various positions, including straight, diagonal and back-and-forth trails that require quick movement from the player. Along the track, players must avoid Amps placed in groups and Shy Guys driving in similar hovering vehicle. If the player collides with either obstacle, their vehicle halts to a stop and their speed drops to the lowest level. When the Star item is used in this minigame, all obstacles will disappear and all coins will become red coins.

Like all other Koopathlon minigames, Lane Change is divided into three levels. The first level takes place on a green track, then blue on the second, and red for the third. Starting at level 2, Shy Guys can begin swerving between lanes, and red coins can appear at the start and end of coin trails. Amps and Shy Guys appear more commonly with each level progressed, with Amps gaining more in numbers and positions. The players' high score, if exceeding the default score of 30 coins, is saved and can be tracked and compared online in the top rankings in the Party Plaza.

Obtaining at least 250 coins in a single game of the Free Play version of Lane Change awards the player with the "Speed Demon" achievement.
