Brick Breaker is a Coin minigame in Super Mario Party Jamboree. Its gameplay is based on block-breaker games such as Breakout and Alleyway.

Overview[edit]

In this minigame, the player's character carries a paddle in a similar manner to Mario in the Bonus Stage of Pinball. The player moves the paddle left and right to try to bounce the Green Shell so that it hits the bricks, which earn the player points when broken. ? Blocks also appear, and they cannot be broken and drop a coin when hit or a Red Coin on levels 2 and 3 (which is worth three points). One or more green-shelled Koopa Paratroopas fly among the bricks. When one is hit with the shell, the Paratroopa goes into his shell and bounces off, so more bricks can be broken. Occasionally, a red-shelled Koopa Paratroopa appears. It gives off the same reaction when the player hits it as the green-shelled Koopa Paratroopa, except that Red Shells are more powerful, being able to break directly to all blocks, unlike the Green Shells that will bounce off after hitting a brick. The more times a shell bounces off, the faster the shell goes, making the minigame progressively harder as the player gets more shells, and they get faster. The player loses the shell(s) that fall(s) offscreen. If the player loses all their shells, their character will do a sad animation and a new shell will spawn. The Red Shells go faster when bouncing off than the Green Shells, making it harder for the player to keep them from falling. The Koopa Paratroopas may occasionally respawn. When the Star item is used in this minigame, all shells in play will behave like Red Shells, and a translucent rainbow-colored panel will cover the bottom of the screen to prevent the shells from falling.

Like all other Koopathlon minigames, Brick Breaker is divided into three levels. The first level takes place in an area with brown brick walls and a blue wall in the place the minigame is played, then a blue brick wall and a darker blue wall on the second, and a dark green brick wall and a dark grey wall on the third. Two Blue Toads can be seen cheering for the player in the background. Every level has its own brick statue and number of brick walls, with all of the brick statues being sprites from Super Mario Bros.
