Vase[1] in an enemy found in the game Virtual Boy Wario Land. Vases, as their name may imply, take the form of a vase. They have an animate face on the bodily area of the vase, with several attached, bead-like objects which surround the area at the opening. They are shown to be red and yellow in colour according to their artwork. The behaviour of these enemies is unique. They are not able to move by themselves, but require the interaction of the game’s protagonist, Wario. The vase is found in an enclosed room within the tenth level of the game, well hidden facing downwards amongst some Coins. When Wario is collecting the Coins, he is likely to pick up the vase simply by walking into it. If Wario is to release or throw it, the vase will roll along the ground and soon come to a stop. The vase’s effect depends on which position the opening of the vase has landed at after being thrown, whether it be facedown, right way up or sidewards. If it lands the right way up (that is the opening facing upwards), the vase will release a large Coin that Wario can collect. The normally emotionless face on the vase will appear to smile and will then laugh with happiness. If the vase opening lands facedown, there will be no effect whatsoever. If the opening of the vase lands sidewards, which is more likely in all cases, it will release a Vase-Based. A Vase-Based is a ghostly creature who is small in size, but very aggressive and is able to harm Wario with the two spears it carries. If Wario defeats the Vase-Based, the vase won’t produce any more of these creatures unless it is thrown and has landed in the sideward position again. Alternatively, Wario is able to defeat the vase itself by performing a Dash Attack or a Ground Pound. It is immune to the flames of King Dragon and Sea Dragon Wario.
