Edits

Hey, when you writing out information make sure to follow our writing guidelines, specifically capitalising proper nouns like Donkey Kong. Also, in regards to Hammer Bro., you missed out the ending reference, hence why the information disappeared. In case something similar happens again and you can't figure why, ask another experienced user to help rather than removing the content that's disappeared. Thanks. Yoshi876 (talk)

To add, please remember to add a space before every new sentence.   Mario JC 22:02, 29 June 2018 (EDT)

Image categories

Hello, Doomhiker. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

When categorising images, uncategorized must be replaced with a category link, like , not . Square brackets link to pages (e.g. Papercraft generates Papercraft), not curly brackets (e.g. Papercraft), which transcludes the page instead.   Mario JC 10:13, 19 August 2018 (EDT)

Spelling

Hi, we use American spelling standards on this wiki; as such, words like "colour" should be written as "color." Thank you, and continue editing. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:16, 23 August 2018 (EDT)

Re: Minor Questions

Hey there! So for images not on the wiki, still format them within your section as if they were the way you want it(i.e. File.Doomhiker.png). Don't upload them to the wiki, but when you send in your section to your team director, provide the images via URL from an image-hosting site (such as Imgur) and label them if you have more than one. When the 'Shroom releases, I upload all of the images and then it looks as you intend it. I hope that answers your question. Feel free to message me if you need help with anything else.   Meta Knight (talk - forum) 23:56, 1 October 2018 (EDT)

Image extensions

Hello! Thank you for your recent uploads and contributions. Just wanted to let you know that, per policy, the extension at the end of the filename should be lowercase rather than uppercase (for example, .png or .jpg instead of .PNG or .JPG). Thanks! -- TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:36, 8 November 2018 (EST)

Power Moon redirects

Hi, please remember to create an all-lowercase version for every redirect that has at least one uncapitalized word. For example, as of this message, searching for "past the moving wall" leads to no page, even if you created the "Past the Moving Wall" redirect. However, redirects that have all words capitalized do not require an uncapitalized version. Good job so far and keep it going! -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 14:38, 11 November 2018 (EST)

RE: Big Bertha

There is one rude thing I wrote on Doc's talk page, the one with the crying, and the random captions on the Big Bertha page. I would like you to show me more rude comments that I made; to see if you just assumed that I did that multiple times and that you didn't actually look at my contribution page, because, well, I did! It's also not like these two mini-insults are pushing the boundaries or anything. And also seeing you writing this just a few lines under Link's post where he said that the random captions made his eyes bleed takes all of your objectiveness on that point of view away.  VOIDTHIS (talk)  17:50, 23 November 2018 (EST)

New pages

Thanks for helping with article creation lately. For future reference:

  • The name of the article, when first mentioned, is simply bolded as Killing Edge, not Killing Edge
    • For articles on games, TV shows, films, publications etc. italics are added, so it's bolded as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Goes without saying, but every title for games, game series, films etc. must be italicised as well, including non-Mario franchises like Fire Emblem (as I noticed your most recent article was missing them).

The Manual of Style lists everything you need to know about creating articles.   Mario JC 08:43, 24 November 2018 (EST)

RE: Vandal Talk Pages

Ok. Thanks for telling me. Mari0fan100 (talk) 14:00, 13 January 2019 (EST)

However, I noticed that Blurry Horizon's talk page got deleted because it was a vandal talk page, but it contained more than the block template. Before it got deleted, DKPetey99 posted a Warning Template and a Last Warning on that talk page. Should that talk page have been deleted, or should it have been kept? Mari0fan100 (talk) 15:07, 13 January 2019 (EST)
Per Template:Block, Talk pages of permanently banned users are viable for deletion and do not need the template. However, exceptions can be made for talk pages deemed useful for possible future references. The reason that Blurry Horizon's talk page got deleted was because it was only warnings while Sonicperson's talk page has an italics reminder, and the reason Sonicperson got blocked was because he kept creating sockpuppet accounts, so his talk page was deemed useful for possible future references if other sockpuppets using his ip address are created, to prevent potentially unbanned sockpuppets used to evade a ban. Doomhiker (talk)  15:27, 13 January 2019 (EST)

Informal Reminder

Your oppose of my first proposal may have been valid, but in case you didn't know, YoshiStar28 wasn't blocked because of vandalism. He was blocked for being a sockpuppet of an existing, but blocked, account. Plus, not all people who get blocked on the holidays are vandals. Mari0fan100 (talk) 22:08, 18 January 2019 (EST)

True, but if you look at YoshiStar28's contributions before he/she was banned, their edits were constructive and in good faith. The edits weren't even close to vandalism, spamming, or flaming. Mari0fan100 (talk) 14:08, 20 January 2019 (EST)

Re: Aboutfile-reminder clarification

No problem! I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't an argument, and that both of you knew what was the best way to go forward. So yeah, for a bit of future clarification, you issue someone the template if they repeatedly leave in empty aboutfiles or parameters (so, for example, the may leave a line in like |5= and not put anything after it, that's not OK), but it's fine if they remove it completely. Their use is encouraged, but it's not compulsory. So don't worry, we all make mistakes sometimes, just keep this in mind for future reference. :) BBQ Turtle (talk) 15:52, 24 January 2019 (EST)

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for rewriting and removing the flowery sections of the Super Mario Sluggers article! Now it can stay featured... or at least I think so! Ghosts template

Back in the day, there were templates for birds, fire creatures, ice creatures, etc., that were deleted for being overly-large categories-in-template-form. That's exactly what the "ghosts" template is. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:19, 28 January 2019 (EST)

RE: Mama Luigi quote

I'm not sure what you mean by "no comma". "You bash it Luigi" is grammatically incorrect without the comma; how he says it (pause or no pause) is irrelevant.   Mario JC 07:46, 24 February 2019 (EST)

I'm confused as to why you're determining whether it's "grammatically correct" simply from the way he speaks. As I said, it doesn't matter if he pauses or not. When written out as a quote, it should be grammatically correct. A comma isn't supposed to signify a pause in between.   Mario JC 19:03, 24 February 2019 (EST)

Donkey Kong Racing Gallery

Hello, I am just curious on why my edit was revoked? I am from another wiki (Lost Media Wiki) and we usually have the images at a specific text height and I guess I haven't really seen it this way before. I would just like so clarification on why it's like that. I am not mad, just wanting to know. Thank you. Ryanskip 12:56, 25 February 2019 (EST)

"Vandalism"

Your last two reversions I think were mislabeled. I don't find these as vandalism; the first looks more like a joke or editing mistake, and the second looks like someone trying to add a relevant (though mistaken) link. Don't be too quick to label something as vandalism if it's something small like this, it's likely someone trying to help or learn how a wiki works.    17:25, 2 March 2019 (EST)

Re:SML2 items and obstacles

Unfortunately not. The filesystem structure that I'm familiar with wasn't really a thing for Nintendo until GameCube for console and DS for handheld. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:50, 3 March 2019 (EST)

As a matter of fact, most are simply generic platform/background tiles. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:10, 3 March 2019 (EST)
I don't think so, I think they might just have an x and a y coordinate as to where their graphic goes in the tile bank. Some of the ones with actual functions would have different code, but not likely lengthy file names. At most, probably a serial number. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:46, 3 March 2019 (EST)

Poochy riding Yoshi

That doesn't count as "newbie-bashing," what that is is noting the knee-jerk reaction to the words "riding" and "Yoshi" rendering it as "riding Yoshi" just because that's more what people are used to saying than "Yoshi riding." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:54, March 14, 2019 (EDT)

Also, might as well put a lot of thought into that proposal as well, laying out every possible advantage and disadvantage, so that maybe you have a good shot at getting out a decent vote.   (T|C) 00:06, March 24, 2019 (EDT)

Re:Quick solution

It looks clunky to directly refer to the wiki outside of applicable pages where it would be expected like the List of rumors and urban legends about Mario or Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:44, March 25, 2019 (EDT)

Maybe, but that approach is more something to be brought up on the Watage Pakkun talk page. The difference with Nipper Dandelion and Fire Nipper Plant is that the former must take some context to translate (I've said it before, but no one's going to look at the name Watage Pakkun as-is and assume it's a type of Nipper Plant or necessarily know that it's actually a dandelion), whereas the latter is a very straightforward translation (Faia, Fire, Puchi Pakkun, Nipper Plant). That and the fact that it's just not mentioned at all in the English dub (even though, oddly enough, it and several others are subtitled in plain English) makes me think that it was most likely a different person who came to the conclusion of Fire Nipper Plant. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:01, March 25, 2019 (EDT)

Rerere:Nipper Dandelion

For the same reason we normally do it for other name changes - it was not official at the time. LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:12, March 27, 2019 (EDT)

Re: Signature

Succolourus

I don't know where to find the original. Here's where I found the translation, but since I'm not good at formatting references, I left it out. You can add it yourself or move it to the German name if you want to. User:Pallukun 21:03, 29th May 2019 (GMT) https://www.flickr.com/photos/miloscat/albums/72157642078272083/with/13024448694/

I've looked around, and there don't seem to be any images of the comic in German. Should the page be deleted or tagged with 'unoffical translation'? 23:16, 29th May 2019 (GMT)

Re:References

It's useful in the Super Mario World cases because the in-game source is in conflict with the guide, and it helps readers to know the origin. It is allowed if it is somewhat obfuscated. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:00, April 5, 2019 (EDT)

Indeed, I recall when Arrow Lift was moved (before it was decided it should be split some time) to "Arrow Wheel" because someone apparently didn't know it's stated blatantly in a SM64 mission title, so they thought it was "unsourced." If there are alternate parsings or just a lot of different names, in-game citations make sense so people don't start assuming they have no source. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:27, April 5, 2019 (EDT)

Pink DKJr vs Gooigi

They are not even remotely comparable. "Gooigi" has an actual plot-given reason for existing, and has unique properties in many respects. "Junior (II)" is a pointless non-character whose more comparable to the recolors in the Smash, tennis, or golf games. This is especially important since we got rid of the colored Yoshi pages, which were the only thing even remotely justifying its existence. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:50, April 5, 2019 (EDT)

"we only use older names when they are used in-game"

You actually had it right the first time. I can point to numerous examples showing that to be a false statement. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:22, April 6, 2019 (EDT)

Two problems. No webpage-based emulators. They are terrible. Standalone executables are recommended.
