The 'Shroom:Issue 218/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! May is upon us, quicker than we may have expected. This year is just soaring by in hindsight. It's like looking backwards out of the car and realizing you're sixty miles from your starting point. This also means I'm only a month out from graduating college, which is full of its own excitement and existential dread. Regardless of where you find yourself life-wise, I hope the turning weather has been pleasant for you. Even if I'm panicking about post-grad employment, at least I have the sun to get me through it!
The Fun Stuff office has been working nonstop to produce this month's edition. 12 sections await you! What a number! All of our staples are here, while Waluigi Time (talk) gives us a special Awards-themed Quiz, and Sparks (talk) provides this month's 'Shroom Quiz. There's more than enough content waiting for you, so I won't hold you any longer. Take care of yourselves, and enjoy Issue 218!
Section of the Month
Huge congratulations to Sparks (talk) for grabbing first place with his debut section! That's always a marked accomplishment. Additional congrats go to Ninja Squid (talk) and FunkyK38 (talk) for second and third place respectively. Make sure to vote for your favorite section this month!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi everyone, welcome to this edition of anagrams! Well summer's coming up and with it, unfortunately for me, warmer weather and sunshine- which of course, makes me think of Super Mario Sunshine- which I can't believe I haven't done anagrams for before! So here we go! Feel free to suggest other obvious topics I've missed, anything you fancy as a topic in general, or any fun Mario-related anagrams that I could work into a section of any given theme on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums. I wouldn't want to cloud your judgement, so I'll let you blaze right on through and let you clear up these anagrams!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. FAZED ALP LION
2. POOR GLOBE ROPE
3. UNITS TROLLS
4. EPIPHANY RATE
5. WOODS AIR HAM
6. NAPKIN RAP
7. HAIR ABSENCE
8. GO TEACHABLE
9. TOWER TABLET
10. NAVIGATE A PILL
11. THUMBING AIR CAPS
12. PINT HEIRESS
Bonus anagram:
- Delfino Plaza
- Gooper Blooper
- Strollin Stu
- Petey Piranha
- Shadow Mario
- Pinna Park
- Sirena Beach
- Gelato Beach
- Water Bottle
- Pianta Village
- Magic Paintbrush
- Shine Sprite
Bonus anagram: Sunflower Kid
Riddle Moves
Written by: Sentient freedom (talk)
Hello 'Shroom readers. Man, isn't it crazy to think that my next appearance on here was relatively close to my last one? Yeah time really flies doesn't it? But anyway, welcome back to Riddle Moves, the section where I get to test how much you know about Pokémon moves (and so I can profit off this in the form of entertainment).
How it works:
Below will be a riddle relating to a random Pokémon move; the chosen move will not be a Z-Move, a Max move, any of the moves that are exclusive to the Starmobiles, or any of the two Tera moves. What you have to do is use the information provided by the riddle to piece together what the move may be. I will tell you the move's type, so you can think about it a bit more. Anyway, enough talking! Here's the riddle, let's see how sharp your knowledge is!
Type: Rock
"I cover the opponent in a compound to do lingering damage. If you are liquidized or an alloy, let's just say things won't be ending well for you. What am I?"
This "compound" you are looking for is the result of an ionic bond between a particular metal and non-metal.
By definition it is a food preservation process.
Remember what I said back in Issue 217 on the first hint.
Salt Cure
So how did you do? Did you manage to get it right? Well, regardless, thanks for playing, and I will see you next month to test your move knowledge again.
Word Search
You know what, I'm just going to say it! I like Wario Land II! It's probably my favorite Wario game. It's got everything! Evil alarm clocks, big spear guys, Wario's pet Hen... It's full of fun branching paths and treasures to collect. I love Wario Land II and I can't believe it's not on the Game Boy app. But when it gets on there, I expect you all to play it! Especially you Rose! So this month's Word Search is all about Wario Land II! Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, and backwards! As always have fun and stay save!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
T'is time for another edition of The 'Shroom, and with it I come with another edition of Crosswords. It's time to have some fun now, as today we're focused on Mario Party! Have fun figuring out an assortment of minigames throughout all the games. Best of wishes, and I'll be off until next month. I was MarioMorty, have fun!
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! After spawning Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream last month, I've decided that's enough power for this section for a while, so I'm going to let it recharge for a while until I decide to will an HD remaster of the Toy Story 2 game into existence (or maybe a new F-Zero so Perch can write Mach Speed Mayhem again). For now, let's finally focus on some Switch 2 games, and what better way to kick it off than Mario Kart World? You can play as Moo Moo! There's a lot going on here, so in honor of the Switch 2 I've decided to double the number of Koopas to find! Ten Koopas are hiding in this piece of artwork from the game. Good luck!
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Pixel Personas
Welcome to Pixel Personas everyone! Can you figure out who these characters are for May's issue?
Here's what it's about: Pixel Personas is a game played in three rounds. In each round, I'll show an image of a Super Mario character, but they're all pixelated! You (the readers) must analyze and identify who these characters are. Each round is tougher than the last, with more lesser-known characters and larger pixels, making it more difficult to tell who it is. After you make your guess, click/tap on the card the image is on to flip it over and reveal the character! if you have JavaScript disabled, simply hover over the card instead.
Ready to have some fun? I hope so! Let the first round commence!
Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Wowie! Wasn't that exciting? Did you guess all three characters correctly? All that matters is if you had fun. Thanks for playing and see you next issue!
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another edition of Connections! Another session of spring cleaning has left me with an all-new set of terms being strewn around my room! Want to help me get these sorted and settled?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
| Face | Mechakoopa | Wrench | Leader |
| Daisy | Pistols | King | Funny |
| Snake | Burner | Donkey Kong | Mario |
| Brick | Cannon | Coconut | Dice |
Start with "Dice"
Making these categories ship-shape!
"So they're finally here..."
- Dice, Face, Snake, Brick: ___ Block
- Mechakoopa, Wrench, Burner, Cannon: common airship obstacles
- Leader, Pistols, Funny, Coconut: words found in the DK Rap
- Daisy, King, Donkey Kong, Mario: character rescued across the Mario franchise
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“We've got a new case for you, gumshoe! Carmen's team has stolen the entire wardrobe for the upcoming Mario Kart World game! Mario Kart World is the release title for the new Nintendo Switch 2. It features many new playable characters, and many returning characters are bringing outfits with them from previous games in the franchise, including Mario Kart Tour. New players are excited about this change, which allows more customization of the racers, but no one will get to race in their fancy outfits as Carmen's crew has emptied out the costume department of the game! Dresses, pants, even hats are gone, and everyone is stuck in their base outfits. We need you to get to work and track down the thief before the game comes out so everyone can style their race in their own way. Don't be fashionably let this time, gumshoe, get moving!”

“Excellent work, gumshoe! Thanks to your investigation, we were able to surround the hotel's casino before heading inside to confront Carmen's goons, and we managed to apprehend all of them and get back most of the stolen clothes! It seems like they've been dropping clothes the entire way along their escape route. We've dispatched a few teams to gather up all of the loose clothes and find anything that isn't accounted for, and we are currently questioning the suspects as to their motivations. If you're a little suspicious about this case, gumshoe, you're not alone. We're trying to track Carmen for now, but how do clothes fit into her plans? We'll have to wait and see for now. As for you, gumshoe, it's time to return to base and write up your report of this case.”
Musical Quiz
Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)
Another month has passed before our very eyes, and here we are again!
Hey there, 'Shroom readers! Hope you're having a great time right now. Welcome back to Musical Quiz! Your basement-dwelling ninja is back with more musical shenanigans. As questionable as trusting a ninja might be in any sense of the word, I assure you, this one's a good one. As always, the goal is simple: Listen to the music samples below coming from different Mario games and guess which game they're from. Hope you're a Mario music connoisseur, but even if you're not, it's still worth a shot! After all, the most important part is having fun here... or maybe you'll end up with a song stuck in your head, like I do right now with the Xenoblade Chronicles X OST. I guess both work. :-P
