Shroom2017 FunkyK38.png

We're almost halfway through the year, can you believe it? It's the May issue of The 'Shroom!

More and more information is coming out about the Switch 2! Looks like it's going to be a hopping summer for Nintendo. It's hard to believe that the next time I'll be writing Notes, it will be released already. Mind-blowing! As for me, I'll likely be finishing up Xenoblade Chronicles X. As I'm writing this, my save file is ready for the last chapter of the original story and I'm going to start tonight. It's a weird game, full of exploration but also questlines that will make you weep, characters that will make you roll your eyes, and music that will have you jammin' out while you're walking (or flying) around the world. If you haven't gotten into the Xenoblade Chronicles series, I can't recommend them enough to you. It's an adventure you won't regret.

I have a couple of hiatuses to announce this month: Zange (talk) is taking a break from Mixdown Breakdown and Waluigi Time (talk) is taking a break from Shmaluigi, Private Investigator. Wishing both of them the best, and I hope you both will make a return in the future!

I won't keep you up here any longer, so I'll see you next time in our villainous special issue!

Happy reading! ~FunkyK38

Panel 1

{A boy and his mother are at a toy store where they are at the shelves full of Mini Mario toys. He points at one Mini Mario to indicate that he wants one of them.}

Panel 2 {Both the boy and mother are walking outside with the toy store behind them, implying that they recently left the toy store. The boy holds the Mini Mario on top of his head and looks up to it, while the Mother sees him and smiles slightly} Mini Mario: Yippee! Hee hee hee hee.

Panel 3 {The boys and his mother are at the bus stop, where they are sitting on the bench. The boy places his Mini Mario to his left, while the mother puts her handbag on her lap. Not far from them, Mario is sitting on the other bench while swinging his legs. The screen on the right side is showing an advertisement on bananas, with the words "Mmmm... bananas ...mmmm"}

Panel 4 {Mario takes of his cap and fans himself and exhales. This catches the boy's attention. The mother is adjusting her fringe while closing her eyes. The screen on the right side is showing an advertisement on Waluigi's Dance Club, where there is a Waluigi striking a pose holding a rose in the spotlight and his emblem behind him}

Panel 5 {As soon as the child sees what Mario did, he turns to the Mini Mario he is holding in front of him}

Panel 6 {There is a loud "CRRCK" sound, giving Mario a shock that makes his cap bounce} Mini Mario: OH NO!

Panel 7 {Mario witnesses what is going on, where the child manages to pry open the Mini Mario cap to reveal the insides of the Mini Mario's head. The child is crying at the sight while the worried mother consoles him in a frenzy. The Mini Mario is swinging its arms and legs in a tussle. The screen on the right side shows a bottle with capsules pouring over a head with the mouth open. The top of this head is red, implying a headache. The words "Migraine?" is shown on the screen} Mini Mario: Mamma mia! I got a splitting headache!

Panel 8 {The scene cuts to a meeting room with a clock pointing at around 4:36, where Mario in a suit is presenting a whiteboard depicting a redesign proposal to three Toads (Red Toad, Blue Toad, and Yellow Toad) in suits. The Red Toad, in particular, is writing notes. On the table are four cups for each visible participating member, a jug patterned with girders, ladders, and barrels like in the Donkey Kong game, flowers, and a couple of notebooks.

On the whiteboard (which has marker smudges), the redesign proposal states that the original Mini Mario's cap is tight and incomplete and has a cross to indicate that it is flawed, and thus are written in red marker. The newer design, drawn and written in blue marker, shows a complete head underneath the Mini Mario's cap and two arrows to communicate that it should be removable, along with a tick. Mario smacks the whiteboard with his hand to emphasise the redesigned version}

Q Panel 29B - Toys Don't Work Like the Real Deal Bonus.png

{The background consists of various toys, including toy karts Wild Wiggler and Mr. Scooty, a ball bin with a label stating "Buy 3 Free 1", and a shelf with boxes of dolls. On the table is a Biddybud plush on the left, three wooden blocks with letters spelling "T-O-Y", and a top of a toy castle with an antenna tipped with a star

A child just removed a Mini Toad's cap, the toy revealing a bald head with three strands of thread sticking out. He is smiling at Toad, thinking that Toad probably has the same feature. His mother is shocked that the child would do such a thing}

Toad: {Knowing what the child is thinking when he sees him, while holding onto his cap to secure it} No.

World 4: Subterranean Sports - Part 1

Meanwhile, back at General Zellon's castle, General Zellon was once again laughing up another storm as he stood in front of the cage that held Mario and Luigi captive. "The televised ratings of the Zellon Games across all of the Dark Lands must be going through the roof right about now! This year's Zellon Games might just be the most successful in the history of the Dark Lands!" General Zellon gloated as Mario once again rolled his eyes while Luigi glanced around nervously.

"I would make some kind of comment right here, but I've honestly run out of wisecracks at this point." Mario told Luigi, to which the green-clad plumber nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, I honestly don't have any more comments on this General Zellon guy by this point either. All I can really do right about now is hope for the heroes to reach this castle and free us from our entrapment." Luigi chimed in.

Suddenly, Johann proceeded to run into the room once more. "Father, you will not believe this!" Johann shouted as he proceeded to explain to General Zellon what happened at Pipe Skyway.

"Grrrah! I cannot believe those heroes managed to make it past Pipe Skyway!" General Zellon angrily growled at the fact that another one of his commanding officers was beaten by ClawgripFan9001 and Company.

"Yes, and now they are making their way towards those underground caves to free even more of the captured heroes!" Johann explained to his father once more.

"The underground caves? That would be Talpidae Tunnels." General Zellon replied to Johann before thinking about what to do now. "Alright, I think I have a plan on how to prevent the heroes from clearing out that part of the Dark Lands. I will send your middle sibling after those meddling heroes." General Zellon told Johann before activating his communication device once more. "Basil, could you come in here for a minute, son?" He spoke through the communication device before putting it away again.

Shortly afterward, General Zellon's middle child, Basil Konstantine Zellon flew into the room. Like his father and siblings, Basil was a hippopotamus/pterosaur hybrid, having a fading brown hairstyle along with aqua green eyes.

"You needed my services, father?" Basil asked General Zellon as he bowed towards him.

"Yes, Basil. You know the heroes that have been going around, freeing the heroes and defeating our troops? They are currently on their way to Talpidae Tunnels, and I need you and your troops to head down there and make sure they won't free any more heroes from our evil clutches." General Zellon explained to Basil.

Basil nodded in understanding. "Understood, father. I shall not fail like my younger siblings have." He told his father before flying out of the room to prepare his troops to deploy to Talpidae Tunnels.

"If anyone other than myself knows what they are doing when it comes to military brilliance when you aren't around, father, then you can surely count on Basil to get the job done." Johann spoke with a smile.

"Truthfully spoken, Johann. Those dastardly heroes won't know what will hit them when they find themselves face to face with Basil and his men and women." General Zellon laughed.

Meanwhile, ClawgripFan9001 and Company were currently traveling down to Talpidae Tunnels in a minecart they had managed to hijack off the Zellon Armed Forces. Bowser Jr. was driving the minecart, ClawgripFan9001 was in the passenger seat and all the other heroes were seated in the back.

ClawgripFan9001 was looking into his Lakitu cameraman's camera as he was reporting live to the viewers at home to give them another update on their progress in the Dark Lands. "Ahoy, mateys! Welcome back ta me coverage o' the Annual Mushroom World Games! We managed ta defeat three o' the Zellon Armed Forces' commandin' officers an' free three groups o' heroes by this point, an' we be nearly 'alfway done with our quest, as we be 'eadin' t'wards the fourth o' the Zellon Armed Forces' strongholds right now! We 'ope ye continue ta enjoy this televised adventure we be bringin' ye t'day, an' we 'ope ta see ye again real soon with 'nother update on our progress! This is ClawgripFan9001, signin' off fer now!" The Sidestepper reporter spoke before turning his attention back towards the road.

"Heads up, guys! It looks like the minecart track is about to come to an end here!" Bowser Jr. pointed out as he slowed the minecart down to a stop at the end of the minecart track and all of the heroes proceeded to get out of the minecart.

"Yar, looks like we've arrived at the next o' the Dark Lands. Let's continue on foot from 'ere an' deal with any o' General Zellon's troops that get in our way." ClawgripFan9001 suggested to the others.

"Sounds like a plan to me, ClawgripFan! Let's go ahead and crush whatever forces General Zellon can throw at us down here!" Bowser grinned as he pounded his fists together and the heroes began marching forth, into Talpidae Tunnels.

After walking for a while, the heroes were faced with three of General Zellon's minions that were his equivalent to Monty Moles; Terrence Talpidaes. They proceeded to notice the heroes and immediately took defensive stances.

"Halt! Commander Basil Konstantine Zellon has ordered us to keep your greasy heroic hides out of this area, so you won't be going any further than this!" One of the Talpidaes told the heroes firmly.

"Ha! You really think a bunch of dumb moles like you will be able to hinder our progress? How about this: If we beat you guys in a sports event, we'll be allowed access into the rest of the area. If you guys beat us, we'll leave the Dark Lands, never to return. Does that work for you?" Bowser Jr. asked the Talpidaes with a smirk, folding his arms in front of his chest.

The Talpidaes proceeded to look at each other before looking back at the heroes, nodding as they accepted their challenge. "We accept your challenge, heroes. Time to take this to the stadium!" The second of the Talpidaes spoke as everyone was beamed away to the stadium where the event was going to take place.

We then find ourselves at the stadium, where the heroes were due to face General Zellon's forces in a 100m Sprint match. Bowser Jr. stood on the track next to the Talpidaes while the rest of the heroes were at the sidelines to cheer Bowser Jr. on.

"In Line Number One, Bowser Jr.!" The announcer spoke as the audience booed the Koopa Prince, who happily waved to the audience.

"In Line Number Two, Private Williamson!" The announcer spoke as one of the Talpidaes waved to the audience as well, though this time, the audience cheered for him.

"In Line Number Three, Private Smith!" The announcer spoke as the second of the Talpidaes did a bit of stretching while the audience cheered him on.

"And in Line Number Four, Private Pendragon!" The announcer finished as the last of the Talpidaes happily jumped up and down while getting cheers from the audience.

Everyone then proceeded to prepare themselves to start running. "On your marks…Get set…" The starting shot then sounded, and the heroes started sprinting forward, with Bowser Jr. being faster than the Talpidaes as he proceeded to cross the finish line first, with the rest of the heroes cheering for his victory. The Talpidaes proceeded to groan in agony as they proceeded to disappear into puffs of smoke, after which the heroes were beamed back to Talpidae Tunnels.

"Gwa, ha, ha, ha! Well done, son! You really showed those wimps what for!" Bowser congratulated his son with a happy laugh.

"Hee, hee, hee! Thanks, dad! I was glad to be of assistance in getting back at General Zellon's troops for keeping us captive!" Bowser Jr. giggled.

"Well, you sure were of assistance back there. Now let's continue on with our journey through this part of the Dark Lands." Winston suggested, to which the other heroes nodded in agreement as they proceeded to wander further into Talpidae Tunnels.

After wandering further into Talpidae Tunnels, the heroes proceeded to come across a large and muscular anthropomorphic cat, which was one of the more elite members of General Zellon's troops; The Fuerteline.

"Whoa, that cat looks huge and buff!" Diddy Kong exclaimed in shock as he saw the Fuerteline.

"Dang straight! But no kitty is too buff to surpass me in strength!" Donkey Kong grinned as he pounded his fists together, itching for a fight.

"That makes two of us, Donkey Kong! I'm willing to give this cat a run for his money as well!" Funky Kong grinned as he pounded his fists together as well, eager to take on this cat as well.

"Gwa, ha, ha! If we're talking muscles, you can't leave me out of the conversation! I'm joining you guys in this fight!" Bowser gloated as him, Donkey Kong and Funky Kong stepped forward to confront the Fuerteline.

"Stay right where you are! Commander Basil has ordered me to keep you Mushroom Kingdom scum out of Talpidae Tunnels! Turn back now or face violent retribution!" The Fuerteline ordered the heroes, popping out his claws to slash the heroes with them.

"Heck no, you big bad kitty! We'll be giving you a well-deserved trashing instead!" Donkey Kong flashed a grin at Fuerteline, slipping into an orthodox fighting stance as he did so.

"You know it! I hope you're ready to catch some hands, cat dude!" Funky Kong grinned as well, slipping into a southpaw fighting stance as he did so.

"Yeah! You Zellon Armed Forces scum will pay the price for locking up the King of the Koopas!" Bowser taunted as well as he slipped into an orthodox fighting stance, much like Donkey Kong.

"So that's how it's going to be, is it? Very well. If you wish to pass, you three must beat me in a Hammer Throw match. Should you emerge victorious, you'll gain access deeper into Talpidae Tunnels. However, should I emerge victorious, I will personally see to it that you're booted out of the Dark Lands and will never be able to return. You got that? Good. Let's get going to the stadium!" The Fuerteline told the heroes before everyone was beamed away towards the stadium where the Hammer Throw event was going to take place.

The Fuerteline was the first to go in the event, as he managed to throw his hammer a distance of 46,720 meters. The Fuerteline grinned and pumped his fist at the distance he managed to get with his hammer as he stepped back to allow Donkey Kong to throw his hammer.

Donkey Kong began swinging his hammer with all his might, and after releasing a roar of triumph, the leader of the Kong Family let go of his hammer, sending it flying through the air before it touched down on the ground, managing to end the hammer flying a distance of 62,945 meters. Donkey Kong beat his chest triumphantly at this before Funky Kong proceeded to go next.

Funky Kong then proceeded to start swinging his hammer as hard as he possibly could before letting out a Tarzan-like yell and sending the hammer airborne, flying several meters before landing on the ground, achieving a distance of 59,330 meters. Satisfied with this result, Funky Kong nodded as he stepped back to allow Bowser to throw his hammer.

Bowser swung his hammer with as much strength and vigor as he could muster, and with an ear-piercing roar, he let go of the hammer as it rocketed through the sky before coming down on the ground, achieving a distance of 89,775 meters. Bowser cheered happily after winning the event, while the Fuerteline angrily stomped his feet at having lost to the heroes before disappearing into a puff of smoke in defeat. The heroes were then teleported back to Talpidae Tunnels.

"Nice going, you guys! You really gave that mean old cat a run for his money!" Wendy complimented Donkey Kong, Funky Kong and Bowser's efforts in defeating the Fuerteline.

"Wendy's right, you guys were amazing back there at the stadium! You've shown that you're vital members of the team!" Lemmy chimed in with an excited smile.

"Heh heh! Thanks, guys! We were happy to have gotten rid of that guy!" Donkey Kong grinned as he flexed his biceps.

"Dang straight! We're glad to be of assistance in taking down the Zellon Armed Forces bit by bit!" Funky Kong chimed in as he shot the other heroes a pair of finger guns.

"No sweat, kids! Give Bowser a challenge, and he'll make his enemies run home crying to his parents!" Bowser laughed as he flashed a thumbs up.

"Yar, we be really gettin' into the sportin' spirit now! Let's try ta keep that momentum goin' as we venture further into these caves, aye?" ClawgripFan9001 suggested with a grin as the heroes proceeded to venture further into Talpidae Tunnels.

And here we are with Part 1 of the fourth chapter of Sport Report: The Movie! Since Mario games are known for having underground levels, I thought it'd be a fun little idea to include a whole underground world as one of General Zellon's Dark Lands in this story! The name of this underground world, Talpidae Tunnels, as well as the enemy the world is named after, Terrence Talpidae are based on the scientific name for real world moles, which I thought would be a clever reference to both Monty Mole enemies in Mario games and moles in the real world spending a lot of time underground, digging tunnels! And with Bowser and Bowser Jr. in tow after freeing them from their entrapment at the hands of the Zellon Armed Forces, the Koopa King and Koopa Crown Prince have more than rightfully earned their stripes in bringing the Zellon Armed Forces' reckoning upon them as retribution for locking the two of them up! Sadly, all the sports action in Talpidae Tunnels is a sandwich that's too big for one mouthful, so check in for Part 2 in Issue 220, and we're gonna look at more high-stakes hijinks in the fourth of General Zellon's Dark Lands!

Part 2

Waluigi then found himself inside an area of Underwhere Road with a door and an apartment of some sort. Inquisitively humming as he noticed this, Waluigi walked up to the door and gently rattled it, finding that it was locked.

“Hm, it won’t budge. Waluigi assumes that whoever lives in this condo over here has the key. Time to find out if Waluigi’s assumptions prove to be true.” The purple troublemaker told himself before walking up to the apartment and knocked on the door.

“Who’s there?!” A raspy old feminine voice on the other side of the door called upon hearing Waluigi knock on it.

“It’s-a me, Waluigi! Waluigi needs a favor!” Waluigi responded, hoping that whoever lived here would be able to help him out.

“A favor, you say? Come on in then!” The raspy voice lit up with glee before Waluigi proceeded to push the door open and enter the apartment, being greeted by a trio of female spirits upon entering.

“WAH-lutations, ladies. Waluigi was hoping that one of you could help him out with a locked door that needs opening up.” Waluigi politely greeted the spirits as he took off his cap, placing it against his chest and bowing towards the spirits in a gentleman-like manner.

“A locked door that needs opening up? I could help you with that, young man, as long as you do something for me in return.” The first of the three spirits, Hagra, informed Waluigi.

“Certainly, ma’am. What is it that you need Waluigi to do for you?” Waluigi inquired with a hopeful smile, glad to be of service if it meant being helped to cross further into the Underwhere Road as a reward for his efforts.

“There’s a D-Man at the entrance to the Underwhere Road that has a Training Device for me that I need delivered. Head on over there, and mention my name, Hagra. The D-Man knows what you’ll want from there.” Hagra instructed Waluigi, who nodded in understanding.

“Of course, Mrs. Hagra. Waluigi will be there and back with your Training Device faster than Koopa the Quick on his two left feet.” Waluigi grinned and flashed a thumbs up before he left the apartment again and made his way back over to the entrance to the Underwhere Road, traversing any of the dangers that happened to be in his way before meeting up with the D-Man that was stationed at the entrance once more.

“Ah, it’s the tall purple dude again. What can I do for ya?” The D-Man asked with a curious tilt of his head as he saw Waluigi approaching, wondering what the menace in purple came all the way back here for.

“Hagra sent Waluigi.” Waluigi simply responded, hoping that the D-Man would get the hint just as Hagra said that he would.

The D-Man hummed affirmatively as he reached into his pockets and got out Hagra’s Training Device, which turned out to be a handheld Nintendo Switch. He then handed it to Waluigi. “Here ya go, bud. Tell Mrs. Hagra, I said hi.” He replied to Waluigi.

“Will do, sir. Thanks for helping Waluigi out here.” Waluigi smiled at the D-Man before making his way back across the Underwhere Road to where Hagra and her sisters lived, once again knocking on the door before heading inside.

“Mrs. Hagra, Waluigi’s back, and he’s got your Training Device!” Waluigi informed Hagra as he got out the Training Device and handed it to the undead woman. “Oh, and the D-Man who had it said hi.” The tall miscreant added.

“Splendid! Now I can finally get around to keeping my brain active and youthful!” Hagra beamed before tucking away the Training Device and getting out the key to the locked door that Waluigi needed to open, handing the key over to him. “A deal is a deal, young man. Here you got the key to open that locked door. Now go, with many blessings.” Hagra delightfully sent Waluigi on his way.

“Waluigi was happy to help, ma’am. Take care.” Waluigi kindly told Hagra before leaving the apartment again and walking back over to the locked door, taking out the key and using it to unlock the door before venturing on through.

After heading on through this next door, Waluigi found himself in an area that appeared to be outdoors, seeing a series of tall hills ahead of him, with another long staircase at the top of the final hill.

“Something tells Waluigi that he’s almost out of the Underwhere, so he should keep on pushing until he’s actually out.” Waluigi told himself, finding himself filled with determination before making his way up the hills before reaching the staircase, seeing Spiny Tromps rolling down the steps.

“WAH! Not those stupid things! Okay, Waluigi, timing is everything…” The rambunctious scrawny man told himself once more as he proceeded to rush up the staircase while timing the path that the Spiny Tromps took down the steps, and once the Spiny Tromps got too close, Waluigi proceeded to duck into conveniently placed caverns hidden away in the wall next to the staircase. Using this strategy, Waluigi eventually managed to reach the top of the staircase, finding another set of suspicious looking doors once he did.

“Suffering spaghetti, Waluigi believes he’s found another Dorguy…” Waluigi looked worried as he noticed the suspiciously looking doors.

“Oh no, a traveler has come?” A male voice rang out before a face materialized onto the door after hearing Waluigi. “Stay right where you are, sir! Queen Jaydes demands that I guard this passage, for I am Dorguy the Third! As part of my routine security check, I must see if you’re worthy of entering! Can I get a little…Underchomp!” The third Dorguy exclaimed as a three-headed Chain Chomp in colors of red, blue and yellow appeared in front of Waluigi, angrily barking and snapping its teeth at him.

Waluigi exclaimed in shock as he jumped back from the Underchomp’s sudden appearance. “WAH!” It was clear that the vulgar towering male was not expecting that after being quizzed by the previous two Dorguys.

“Surely you must be worthy of passing on through if you can beat this ghastly beast! So put on your fighting gloves and get ready for a skirmish!” Dorguy the Third informed Waluigi, who exhaled deeply as he realized he had no other choice.

“It’s another WAH-n of those days…Very well, let’s get this over with!” Waluigi firmly stated as he then engaged the Underchomp in battle. The Underchomp attacked first by having its red head lunge forward to bite Waluigi, but the purple troublemaker counterattacked by executing a high speed breakdance move that he used to perform a spinning kick on the Underchomp’s red head, causing it to yelp in pain.

Backing off, Waluigi then proceeded to go on the offense by throwing his hat at the Underchomp like a boomerang, and managed to deal a few points of damage to the three-headed beast. The Underchomp then retaliated by having its blue head spew blue fire at the menace in purple, which hit Waluigi, causing him to leap up into the air and let out a series of pained howls before landing back down on the ground.

“You’re gonna pay for frying the great Waluigi like that, you savage beast!” Waluigi firmly told the Underchomp before he executed a Russian dance move that involved him leaning on one arm while kicking his legs up and down to damage the Underchomp. The beast whined in pain before Waluigi gave himself some distance as his canine opponent was about to counterattack again.

Letting out a series of barks in unison, the Underchomp’s three heads then began spinning around in an attempt to damage Waluigi, and while the towering mischief managed to evade a couple of spins by jumping over the heads, he couldn’t keep this up forever and eventually found himself being damaged by the remainder of the spins, letting out numerous grunts and yelps in pain as it happened.

“Ow-ow-ow-ow-WAH! That smarts!” Waluigi exclaimed in displeasure before going back on the offense by using a series of disco dance moves to disorient the Underchomp and then taking advantage of the opportunity to damage the beast by performing a Running Man dance.

Dorguy the Third giggled in wicked amusement. “This is certainly an interesting battle, I say. I wish Queen Jaydes had given me the opportunity to record any of the battles that travelers have with the Underchomp, because I’m certain she would have gotten a kick out of this particular fight.” He mused to himself while continuing to observe Waluigi duking out with the Underchomp.

Speaking of the Underchomp, the monster then had its yellow head lunge forward and pelt Waluigi with its stinky breath, with the purple-clad nuisance moaning in disgust as he smelled the stench being expelled over him.

“Apples to apples, what has that thing been eating recently?!” Waluigi asked before coughing up a storm as the stinky breath faded and he recomposed himself. “Waluigi is really getting mad now, you multiple-headed mutt!” He told the Underchomp with an angry expression on his face, pointing his right index finger at the beast as he did so.

The Underchomp let out a series of happy, amused barks as if it were expressing joy at the misfortune Waluigi was experiencing before carrying out a special attack it hadn’t used before; Its chain detached from the ground, after the Underchomp started walking on its blue and yellow heads while the red head moved about in mid-air, then began spitting homing crimson fireballs that tried to hit Waluigi.

“Now Waluigi’s seen everything…” Waluigi groaned as he shook his head in annoyance before he began to use jumping kicks to redirect the crimson fireballs back at the Underchomp’s red head, which did enough damage for the red head to turn a gray hue and crumble to dust.

Falling back down on the ground, the Underchomp’s chain attached itself to the ground once more as the blue and yellow heads angrily barked and snapped their jaws at Waluigi. The tall hellion smirked and wagged his right index finger in a cocky manner.

“WAH-HA! You two left, so bring it on!” Waluigi taunted the remaining two heads before going back on the offensive as he executed a couple of ballet-inspired dance moves to once again disorient the Underchomp and then attack it using a Moonwalk dance move, which also happened to shield Waluigi from any attacks that the Underchomp tried to sneak in while he was performing the move.

Successfully damaging the Underchomp with his Moonwalk, Waluigi leapt away from the guard dog again as it began to counterattack by swinging its remaining two heads at the mischief making thin man. Being caught off-guard by the attack, Waluigi howled in pain as the Underchomp’s heads struck him.

“I haven’t seen combat like this since Bonechill escaped from his frosty prison.” Dorguy the Third mused in amusement as he continued to observe the showdown between Waluigi and the Underchomp. Recovering from the daze that the Underchomp’s attack had put him in, Waluigi proceeded to execute a sliding bicycle kick that dealt a great amount of damage to the canine monster’s remaining heads.

After recovering from this, the Underchomp’s remaining two heads barked in a synchronized manner before they began to slam down onto the ground to create tremors in an attempt to stun Waluigi, but the scrawny male managed to leap over every single one of these tremors. Noticing this, the Underchomp proceeded to howl in frustration before Waluigi counterattacked with a flying breakdance kick that dealt enough damage to the Underchomp for its blue head to turn a gray hue and crumble to dust.

Now being forced to fight all by itself, the yellow head angrily barked and snapped its jaws at Waluigi, who once again taunted the beast with a cocky smirk and right index finger wag. “Well, WAH-t do you know? Waluigi is a rather capable mixed martial artist! They should make that into a video game; Waluigi Walloping!” Waluigi stated with a confident smirk.

Growling angrily at the purple troublemaker’s taunting, the yellow Chomp yanked its chain out of the ground and began swinging it at its opponent, with Waluigi dodging every swipe of the Chomp’s chain before using a spinning breakdance kick to hit the peg of the Chomp’s chain back at it, which successfully damaged the Chomp.

“Waluigi might not have any game in video games of his own, but he’s certainly got game in wiping the floor with this bad dog over here!” Waluigi grinned confidently before the yellow Chomp once again expelled its stinky breath at him, which Waluigi proceeded to block using his Moonwalk move. The menace in purple then finished off the yellow Chomp by dancing with it, house music playing as Waluigi and the yellow Chomp performed a Vogue dance that culminated in Waluigi striking a flashy pose while the yellow Chomp was promptly wiped out as the dance routine wrapped up, with the Chomp turning a gray hue and crumbling to dust like its brethren before it.

“Whoa-hoa-hoa! You really took out the Underchomp in the most glamorous way possible, pal! All clear to head on through! And take this present from Queen Jaydes as a bonus for proving yourself worthy of going to the Overthere Stair!” Dorguy the Third informed Waluigi in a delighted tone of voice before a jeweled egg colored and textured after a ruby materialized in thin air and dropped gently into Waluigi’s hands.

“Four eggs down, three to go! Waluigi’s halfway done with his quest to earn himself a new body and return to the living world to dish out that sinister minister’s day of reckoning!” Waluigi exclaimed in delight as Dorguy the Third’s face faded from the door to allow the purple-clad mayhem causing fellow entry to the stairway leading to Overthere Stair.

“Mamma Mia, looks like Ma wasn’t kidding when she said there’s a stairway to heaven when you die!” Waluigi said in delight as he proceeded to walk up the stairway, with the dark, dull and eerie stone caverns of the Underwhere Road making place for the bright, blue and lush cloudy skies of the Overthere Stair.

Once he reached the top of the staircase and set foot on the clouds below him, a pair of white feathered angel wings sprouted on Waluigi’s back and a golden halo formed over his head. Grinning in delight as he noticed this, the towering miscreant flapped his angel wings before taking flight.

“WAH-t a WAH-lcome surprise! Waluigi will be sure to use his new angel wings to his advantage to navigate the clouds and reach the Overthere whilst searching for the remainder of the jeweled eggs!” Waluigi said to himself with a delightful tone of voice as he continued to gently fly around, wondering what was next for him in the trials of the aftergame.

As Waluigi flew through the cloudy fields of the Overthere Stair, he found himself confronted by Spiky Parabuzzies and Ice Cherbils that attempted to attack him, but the purple-clad rascal managed to fend them off easily by throwing his cap at them like a boomerang, which wiped out the airborne adversaries with a single hit.

Before long, Waluigi found a white colored column with another jeweled egg on top of it, the egg in question being kept safe underneath a glass dome. Grinning and giggling with glee, the statuesque nuisance flew over to the column before gently landing on his feet in front of it.

“WAH-ha! Egg-cellent! Waluigi found himself another egg!” Waluigi grinned happily as he gently lifted the glass dome with one hand while grabbing the jeweled egg with his other hand, then set the glass dome back down in place before looking at the jeweled egg. It appeared to be colored and textured after a sapphire.

“It’s too bad Waluigi can’t keep these jeweled eggs for himself, since Waluigi is sure that Wario would have loved to add these jeweled eggs to his treasure stash back home at his castle. Eh, some dreams aren’t meant to come true every day, so WAH-t gives?” Waluigi shrugged as he tucked away the fifth jeweled egg safely before he took flight once more to go look for the next jeweled egg he had to find.

Flying through the towers of clouds, Waluigi was soon faced with multiple Beepboxers standing on clouds that moved up and down. As soon as the Beepboxers saw Waluigi, they began shooting sound waves at the high-reaching and troublesome haggard, but Waluigi managed to dodge the sound waves easily enough and pull out a couple of Bob-Ombs that he threw at the Beepboxers as projectile weaponry, taking out the Beepboxers instantly once the Bob-Ombs exploded.

“These guys really take their music obsession to a whole new level, don’t they?” Waluigi quipped as he glanced at the readers with a deadpan expression on his face, breaking the fourth wall as he did so, not paying attention to a gate up ahead and flying through it, after which the gate started blaring its alarms while a red sign with the sapphire egg proceeded to shoot up from the head of the gate.

“WAH?! What do you mean, it’s a fake?!” Waluigi angrily asked the gate as he glanced at the red sign, deducing from it that the sapphire egg that he found was a forgery. Grabbing the sapphire egg from nowhere in particular, the purple lightweight inspected the object from a closer range, noticing that the false egg was slightly different from the previous eggs that he had received back on Underwhere Road.

“Waluigi can’t believe he’s been duped by a dang egg twice in one day! Could Waluigi be humiliated any more?!” Waluigi angrily growled before throwing the decoy egg off into the distance and taking out a nearby Ruff Puff in the process. Calming down again, Waluigi took a deep breath. “Guess Waluigi is going to have to do a little more searching and pay close attention to the details on those eggs…” He sighed as he flew back to find the real sapphire egg.

Backtracking to the previous areas he had visited, Waluigi found a portion of the Overthere Stair where he found eight ? Blocks with eight Rawbuses floating over them. Uttering an inquisitive hum as he assessed the situation, Waluigi came to the conclusion that the real sapphire egg he had to find was likely situated around here.

“Guess Waluigi will have to whip these dragon-looking guys out and search every last one of these blocks if he’s to find the real egg and make it past that annoying gate.” Waluigi told himself before engaging the Rawbuses in battle, defeating them with relative ease before bashing each of the eight ? Blocks, which either held Coins, Super Shroom Shakes, Bob-Ombs that could refill Waluigi’s weapon supply, and another sapphire egg.

“Here’s hoping Waluigi has found the real egg of Columbus this time…” Waluigi sighed and shook his head before carefully looking over the egg, finding that it was much closer in resemblance to the other eggs he’d already collected. Humming affirmatively while nodding satisfaction, he tucked the egg away and began making his way back to the checkout gate he came across before.

After flying back to the checkout gate, Waluigi proceeded to pass through it, and this time, no alarms went off, causing the purple troublemaker to sigh in relief. “Boy, is Waluigi glad that he found the right egg this time…Now off to the sixth one.” He told himself as he continued on his way.

Taking out multiple Ruff Puffs that happened to be in his way using his supply of Bob-Ombs, Waluigi suddenly found a strange looking tree. The tree in question was a golden brown in color, making it look out of place in the otherwise cloudy white landscape of the Overthere Stair.

“Hm…Something tells Waluigi there could be another egg hiding in this tree. Let’s see if Waluigi happens to be proven right on that one.” Waluigi told himself as he flew over to the tree and gently shook it, after which a jeweled egg colored and textured after a garnet fell out of it, softly landing on the cloudy ground underneath.

“Now let’s have a good looky-look at this here eggy-egg to make sure it’s not a forgery…” Waluigi inquisitively mumbled as he picked up the garnet egg and carefully looked it over, comparing it to the rest of his supply of jeweled eggs as he did so, finding that it resembled the eggs that he already had closely enough, so satisfied with his examination, the lanky menace proceeded to put the garnet egg away with the other ones before he once again took flight and went back on his way through the tower of clouds that made up the stairway to the heavenly home of King Grambi.

Continuing to traverse the Overthere Stair, Waluigi fought off a couple of Lakitus that threw Spiny Eggs at him on sight, with the purple-clad nuisance knocking the spectacled testudines off their clouds by throwing his cap at them, sending them plummeting into the cloudy depths. Upon knocking one off the Lakitus off its cloud, said cloud proceeded to turn purple while growing a nose and mustache resembling Waluigi’s.

“Wah? Really? A Lakitu Cloud for Waluigi to ride in? Well, Waluigi certainly wouldn’t say no that!” Waluigi grinned in delight as he flew over to his new personalized Waluigi Cloud and settled down inside, then began to ride it through the rest of the Overthere Stair.

Before long, Waluigi had reached the end of the Overthere Stair, where he was confronted by a large overgrown Skellobomber, much to the alpine mischief-maker’s surprise. “Welcome to my world!” The Skellobomber greeted Waluigi in the same voice as Mr. Smithers during his boss fight in The Simpsons Arcade Game.

“Get lost, you bonehead! Waluigi needs to find one more jeweled egg that he has to present to Queen Jaydes and King Grambi, and you’re in Waluigi’s way!” Waluigi angrily shooed the Skellobomber away.

“I’m sorry, Waluigi. I’m afraid I can’t let you do that.” The Skellobomber informed Waluigi, now speaking in the same voice as HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey before pulling out a large black sword with a flaming purple aura surrounding it and then engaging Waluigi in battle.

“Looks like Waluigi’s gonna have to beat this skele-dunce in order to get by…” Waluigi sighed as he prepared for battle against the giant winged boney beast. He then reached his hand into his newly obtained Waluigi Cloud and grabbed a purple Spiny Egg with golden yellow spikes from it before hurling it at the giant Skellobomber, managing to damage it that way.

“Say hello to my little friend!” The giant Skellobomber shouted at Waluigi in the same voice as Al Pacino in his iconic role as Tony Montana in the film Scarface. He then swung his sword at Waluigi, firing a beam of purple fire at the thin-built troublemaker, which Waluigi barely managed to evade as he screamed in panic.

“WAH-t do you take Waluigi for? The legendary Road Runner?!” Waluigi asked the giant Skellobomber in shock and disbelief before pounding his fists down on his Waluigi Cloud, shooting bolts of lightning at the giant Skellobomber, which also damaged the winged assailant in the process.

“Here we go! Bombs away!” The giant Skellobomber then yelled in the same voice as Agent 14 from Grand Theft Auto V Online. He then detached his skeletal head from his shoulders, after which it floated up in the air. Several miniature versions of his head, all set on fire then began raining down from the sky, and Waluigi began to dodge the skulls by riding his Waluigi Cloud from left to right.

The giant Skellobomber’s skull then proceeded to slam back down onto his shoulders, leaving him temporarily dazed, giving Waluigi a window to attack him. Grabbing another Waluigi Spiny Egg from his cloud, the lanky hellion chucked it at his colossal opponent, dealing another good amount of damage to him as his skeletal body began to show cracks, signaling that it was going to break apart at some point.

“WAH-ha! How’s that for a prickly hazard?!” Waluigi grinned and taunted the giant Skellobomber while provokingly wagging his right index finger. The giant Skellobomber let out a Chewbacca-like roar before two large Skellobombers proceeded to come flying in to assist him. These two smaller-but-still-rather-big Skellobombers were armed with black-hued spiked maces that were also surrounded in an aura of purple fire.

“Wing units, deploy!” The giant Skellobomber declared in the same voice as Dr. Eggman from his appearance in Sonic Unleashed, after which the smaller Skellobombers charged forward with their spiked maces blazing.

“WAAAH!!!” Waluigi shrieked in terror as he ran evasive maneuvers before grabbing two Bob-Ombs and throwing them at the smaller Skellobombers. The explosions damaged the two of them, but it wasn’t enough to take them out for good. As such, Waluigi grabbed two more Bob-Ombs before throwing them at the Skellobombers once more, and this time, it was enough to defeat them.

“You won’t beat me!” The giant Skellobomber then exclaimed in the same voice as the Terra Firmie King from Ducktales: Remastered before swinging his giant sword at Waluigi once more and unleashing a multitude of purple fireballs that flew towards the towering instigator in a multitude of directions. Fortunately for Waluigi, there was enough room for him to duck out of the way of every one of these fireballs.

“Yes, Waluigi most certainly will beat you!” Waluigi then informed the giant Skellobomber before banging his fists on his Waluigi Cloud to strike the airborne undead monster with more lightning bolts, said bolts successfully hitting their target as the Skellobomber’s body began to show even more cracks, clearly indicating it was close to bursting apart. “I need some help out here!” The giant Skellobomber then shouted in the same voice as Woody from the Nintendo DS version of Toy Story 3, after which two more large Skellobombers came flying in, armed with black-tinted rapiers dipped in a fiery purple aura. Said Skellobombers then charged at Waluigi while brandishing their rapiers at him.

“Take a stab at Waluigi, you skewer-hungry skeletons!” Waluigi taunted the Skellobombers while avoiding their attacks, then pelting them with more Bob-Ombs, two for each individual Skellobomber to defeat them both.

“Something spicy, know what I mean?!” The giant Skellobomber quipped in the same voice as Droolik from Link: The Faces of Evil on the Phillips CD-i before detaching his head from his shoulders once again as it flew up into the air, followed by another rain of flaming miniature Skellobomber skulls which Waluigi then began to dodge by flying from side to side in his Waluigi Cloud once more.

Once this attack ended, the giant Skellobomber’s skull slammed back down on his shoulders, dazing it briefly and leaving it vulnerable for attacks, with Waluigi grinning menacingly as he managed to pull a large Waluigi Spiny Egg out of his cloud before managing to launch it at his enormous adversary, striking him and damaging enough to cause his body to break apart and the multiple pieces to explode into powder.

As soon as the giant Skellobomber had been defeated, the final jeweled egg proceeded to materialize in the air and gently float over to Waluigi before settling down in his hands. This last jeweled egg appeared to be colored and textured after a crystal, and Waluigi carefully inspected it to make sure it was genuine before nodding in satisfaction and putting the egg away once he did find that it was genuine.

“WAH-nderful! Waluigi has collected all of the seven jeweled eggs! Time for Waluigi to get them over to the Overthere and present them to Queen Jaydes and King Grambi so that Waluigi may be sent back to the world of the living and confront that body stealing badman!” The purple troublemaker declared before setting off in his Waluigi Cloud towards the end of the Overthere Stair. Here, Waluigi found a sign that he proceeded to read.

“Here Endeth Overthere Stair. The Overthere is Over There.” Waluigi read out loud before laughing at the pun the sign made and glancing ahead of him, seeing the gates of The Overthere in front of him as they proceeded to open and rays of light shined through, beckoning Waluigi to come inside. Smiling delightfully, Waluigi then rode his Waluigi Cloud straight into The Overthere.

Upon entering The Overthere, a male Nimbi greeted Waluigi. “Greetings, traveler. How art thou doing?” He asked Waluigi, speaking in pseudo-Elizabethan English like pretty much all Nimbis did.

“Ah, Waluigi’s doing pretty good under the circumstances, thanks for asking. Say, Waluigi has been sent up here to see Queen Jaydes and her husband, King Grambi. Do you happen to know where they might be?” Waluigi inquired the male Nimbi.

“That I do know, yeah. The King and Queen resideth at the King’s sanctuary across the rainbow bridge. Speaketh of which, the King hath ordered me to bestow this upon thee.” The male Nimbi responded before handing Waluigi a glimmering white helmet shaped like a Koopa’s shell along with a glimmering white chainmail armor, a pair of Magic Wings and a Golden Whip.

“Wow! What did Waluigi do to deserve all of this?” Waluigi asked in shock as he looked at all this heavenly equipment.

“The King will explain thee as soon as thou arriveth at his sanctuary. Let him know that Honbi sayeth hello, yeah?” The Nimbi responded, his name being Honbi.

“Waluigi will be sure to do so, yeah. Thanks.” Waluigi responded with a nod as he put on the chainmail armor and shell-shaped helmet before continuing on his way through The Overthere.

Further into The Overthere, Waluigi encountered a female Nimbi that appeared to have been waiting for him. “Excuseth me, sir. King Grambi hath asked me to wait here for a traveler dressed in purple. Does thou happen to be that traveler?” The female Nimbi asked Waluigi curiously.

“Yeah, that would be Waluigi. What’s the occasion?” Waluigi responded with a curious tilt of his head, wondering where the female Nimbi would be going with this. Suddenly, a flock of green shelled Koopa Paratroopas proceeded to show up and float in front of Waluigi’s new Waluigi Cloud, after which the female Nimbi floated over and attached the Paratroopas to the Waluigi Cloud with leashes.

“The King hath requested me to bestow these faithful steeds upon thee for some strange reason, saying he would explain everything to thee once you arriveth at his sanctuary. Tell the King that Magbi sends her regards, yeah?” The female Nimbi informed Waluigi, her name being Magbi.

“Waluigi will certainly try, thanks for the flock of Paratroopas.” Waluigi thanked Magbi for her help before the Paratroopas began to move forward and carry Waluigi’s Cloud as they did so.

Before long, Waluigi and his flock of Paratroopas arrived at the rainbow bridge leading to King Grambi’s sanctuary. Crossing the bridge, Waluigi looked on in awe as King Grambi’s sanctuary came into view, rays of light shining down on Waluigi as his cloudy carriage pulled up to the front door of the sanctuary. The front door of the sanctuary then proceeded to open as Queen Jaydes and her husband, King Grambi came walking out of it.

“Ah, Mr. Waluigi. You made it here safe and sound. Wonderful.” Queen Jaydes said with a delightful smile, with King Grambi nodding his agreement.

“That I agree with. Now, Mr. Waluigi, did you get all seven jeweled eggs like you had agreed to collect?” King Grambi then inquired Waluigi.

“Waluigi did, Your Majesty. Here they all are.” Waluigi nodded and bowed to the King from where he was sitting before presenting him and Queen Jaydes the seven jeweled eggs. The eggs then floated over to the King and Queen, who carefully inspected the eggs to make sure they were all genuine.

“I oweth thee credit where credit is oweth, Mr. Waluigi. You successfully gathered all seven eggs, so as agreeth, me and my wife will grant you a continue so that you may confront the evildoer who stole your body. The armor, whip and Paratroopas I had my Nimbis bestoweth upon thee should be of great use in doing so.” King Grambi explained to Waluigi, who smiled upon learning what all the heavenly equipment was for.

“Waluigi is very grateful for this, Your Majesty. Waluigi can’t thank you enough.” Waluigi happily told the King and Queen, who nodded in response.

“Don’t mention it, Mr. Waluigi. Now, hold still, as me and my husband will send you back to the living world.” Queen Jaydes instructed the purple troublemaker, who nodded in understanding and sat as he anticipated his revival.

“Game Over, Game Over, Game Over, Game Over, Game Over…Continue!!!” Queen Jaydes and King Grambi chanted in unison before a light green aura surrounded Waluigi and his new Waluigi Cloud carriage complete with Paratroopas pulling it forward before the purple-clad anti-hero was sent back to the world of the living.

And with that, we’ve reached the end of my Waluigi-themed Easter special! I would once again like to extend my thanks to Waluigi Time for assisting me with writing out certain parts of this second half of the story, such as the battle against the Underchomp and the Overthere Stair segment! Your help is greatly appreciated!

Since next month’s issue is the annual ‘Shroom Summer Special, and said Summer Special just so happens to be themed around villains, I thought it’d be a fun little idea to have this second half of this story to act as the setup for my Palette Swap entry for the Summer Special, where Waluigi ends up confronting Minister Crêpe in the world of the living after being revived by Queen Jaydes and King Grambi. So join me again next month as we see Waluigi fight it out with the sinister minister!

What's going on everybody? I'm Sparks and welcome to another edition of Random Video Analysis, a series where I discuss random YouTube videos! For May 2025, that video is Real Angry Birds with Cannon, where the Angry Birds use a cannon to attack the evil Piggies in the real world! There are lots of "Angry Birds in real life" videos out there, but I chose this one for a specific reason:

Shroom218 Pig.jpg

Look at this Pig! He looks ridiculous in the best way possible, does he not? I had to choose a video that had these levels of award-winning CGI!

Let's get started, shall we?

What's it about?

There's no time to waste!

The video starts with a man sleeping on a bench in what looks to be a park. There is calm music playing over the footage. In the background is an open box that has the Angry Birds logo on all four sides. Close to it, a goofy CGI Chuck hops his way off-screen to the left. After he leaves, the perspective changes to show a similarly-designed Red bouncing towards the right. When he reaches the bench where the sleeping guy is, Red turns to face him before continuing along. The perspective reverts back to how it was before to show an odd Matilda "shaking" her way towards the left. After Matilda leaves the scene, the man wakes up and shakes away his tiredness. He turns his head to look to the side where the box is, and flinches in surprise upon noticing it. There is then a close-up on the box for about a second before reverting to show the man now off the bench. As he runs to the left like Chuck and Matilda did, everything freezes and turns to monochrome colors. The iconic "ANGRY BIRDS" logo with the classic design of Red fades in and stays for several seconds.

The screen then quickly zooms into the logo and immediately back out to show all three Birds next to a cannon, because that makes sense! Red and Matilda jump up and down in place while Chuck stays still, turning his head from side to side. Red leaps into the cannon before the screen changes again, this time showing a laughable Foreman Pig (he's got the mustache!) atop a tall structure, with only the top of it in view. There is then another cut to show the cannon and Birds on the far right of the screen, with the Pigs and their structure on the left. The structure is symmetrical and is a combination of wood and stone. In addition to the Foreman Pig, there are two other Pigs: a normal Pig on the left and a Corporal Pig on the grass. The man is standing between the Birds and Pigs, facing towards the right as if to try to protect the Pigs and stop the Birds. The cannon fires Red at the top of the structure, knocking down the Foreman Pig in the process. He lands on the normal Pig, causing that Pig to roll off and land in the ground, disappearing in a puff of smoke seconds later. The Foreman Pig himself is still fine, and now resides where the normal Pig used to be. Realizing what had happened, the man gets his game face on.

If only there was a retry button...

Now it's Chuck’s turn. He jumps into the cannon and fires himself in an attempt to destroy the Pigs, but the guy kicks Chuck away during his launch, successfully stopping the yellow Bird and protecting those green troublemakers. It's now Matilda's time to shine! She leaps inside the cannon and shoots at a low angle like Chuck did. This time however, the man jumps over her, causing the Bird to smash right into the structure and completely reduce it to rubble, vanquishing the remaining two Pigs in the process. The guy then realizes he failed his mission and kneels down to the ground while covering his face and lowering his head, expressing sorrow due to the losses of the Pigs. Additionally, the music stops once Matilda strikes the structure.

Afterwards, there is a close-up of the Angry Birds app icon (the one with Classic Red) with the text "MAKING". Some behind-the-scenes 3D modeling is shown before replaying a few seconds of Matilda's turn to see the finished 3D in action. There is also the live-action setting seen briefly without any CGI at all. The video then ends after the finished footage.

Interesting observations

  • There are no sound effects whatsoever. There is only the calm music playing throughout the video.
  • Red, Chuck, Matilda and the Pigs barely resemble their classic in-game counterparts.
  • The guy was clearly trying to defend the Pigs. Why is that though? Does he see the good inside of them, or does he dislike the Angry Birds? We may never know...
  • Chuck did a front flip when entering the cannon!
  • During Chuck's turn, the Foreman Pig did not have his mustache.
  • During Matilda's turn, the man was further in the background than usual. This is to make it easier to jump over Matilda.
    • Furthermore, Matilda's ability was quite different. In the games, she lays an explosive egg that blows up when it hits something (laying the egg also gives Matilda a boost upward), but here she causes lots of destruction by herself. This is comparable to Terrence.
  • The Birds attacked the Pigs from right to left. In the games it's usually left to right.
  • The Corporal Pig's helmet got recolored during each Bird's turn.
    • During Red's turn, it is whiteish gray.
    • During Chuck's turn, it is slightly darker.
    • During Matilda's turn, his helmet is blue.
