Merge with Boo[edit]

A Yellow Block from Super Mario World This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment.

I made the page when there wasn't a confirmed name, now there's one, and it's just Boo. It's that simple. Although you could argue that sunglasses removing their shyness is unique, the truth is that the shyness of Boos is very inconsistent between games, so it's not that "unique". If the game treats them like normal Boos, then there's nothing more to do, and the identifier (Roy's Showdown!) is odd anyway.

Merge[edit]

  1. Sorbetti (talk) Per proposal.
  2. TheCatLover738 (talk) I suppose they are just Boos with unique behavior.
  3. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Normal Boos doing one-off unusual things has been a thing since Super Mario World, to say nothing of the ones in the Galaxy games that just move back-and-forth underwater.
  4. Wilben (talk) Makes sense to me.
  5. Hewer (talk) Yeah.
  6. The Dab Master (talk) Per all.

#Camwoodstock (talk) May as well. "They don't pause when looked at if they're wearing glasses" can just be a single clarifying sentence, not its own page... ;P

Do nothing[edit]

  1. EvieMaybe (talk) this enemy moves forward in a slow sine wave and can be attacked with flowers or the elephant trunk to take its shades off, which causes it to disappear and functionally defeats it. it just also happens to be a Boo. the fact that this proposal doesn't actually clarify their mechanical differences to give voters enough context feels negligent.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Evie, we're. Admittedly a bit skeptical of this now that it's been brought to light how the mechanical differences are a bit more intense than just "slightly different movement pattern" as the original proposal implied.
  3. WACCA Lily R (talk) Different design and behaviour is a good enough reason to split in my opinion. I don't think the inconsistency of Boo's shyness is much of an argument here when regular Boos also appear in the game with their shyness intact.
  4. Wandering Peepa (talk) In the context of this game, they are distinct enough from their normal counterparts that I don't reducing their coverage to a brief section of Boo's own article is a satisfactory arrangement. (Which is an argument I would also apply to the Big Boo boss from Super Mario World. )

Comments[edit]

If I am not mistaken, this enemy always had a confirmed name. --TheCatLover738 (talk) 21:48, April 23, 2026 (UTC)

I mean, yeah, the loading screen tip was available day 1 of the upgrade's release, so I guess that's technically correct, but at the same time, the loading screen tip is a randomly occurring one for a single Training Camp mission, instead of it being readily shown on an official website before the game's release or something, so Sorbetti would be forgiven for not realizing the enemy already had a name. @EvieMaybe Flopsy Fish and Pete Piscatory are different mechanically, and yet we have them merged. Similarly, Fly Guy Swarm was also somewhat distinct from the regular Fly Guys in the game, as were the two types of Dry Bones and Spinies from M&L Superstar Saga. I could continue with examples like this, but they are irrelevant. The fact that, in many proposals for merging or splitting enemies, names are a much higher priority than mechanics is quite clear, and I've noticed this. As different as these Boos may be from the regular ones, they aren't seen as distinct by anything, not even by their names, so it's easy to assume that mechanics aren't that of a priority. And yet, I mentioned that, even though they're somewhat different, if they are seen as the same enemy, then there's nothing that can be done. You calling me negligent is completely gratuitous on your part. Everything anyone needs to know about why a merge is warranted is here; anything else would be extra and even more of a help for the merge, if anything. why are you assuming those merges are a good idea? why are you assuming prioritizing names above mechanics is a good idea? why are you insisting a single-sentence proposal that does not even span two lines in my monitor is enough to convey the exact conditions behind this merge to an uniformed reader? at no point do you mention how they differ mechanically, at no point do you address where the name is sourced from, and at no point do you acknowledge that calling a Boo variant "a Boo" does not necessarily mean it is 100% indistinct from a base Boo. to my eyes, which have seen many proposals come and go, this is a textbook unfinished "dude, trust me" proposal.
if you would be interested, i could draft my own take on this proposal, and we can compare notes. but in this state, this proposal does not have enough information to convey why one should agree or disagree with it, it does not provide any explanation for why merging the information of this Boo variant to the base Boo page would be organizationally beneficial, and it does not acknowledge similar cases (such as Chomp (stomping) or the Koopaling Wonder forms) to provide further context. this proposal is, in a word, incomplete. i apologize if i sound harsh, but sugarcoating my words would risk interfering with the clarity of my message. — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 19:10, April 25, 2026 (UTC)
To be fair, I don't think anyone's moved to split the "drift aimlessly back-and-forth underwater and wait to get killed by a shell's spotlight" Boos found in both Galaxy games, and these seem sorta similar to those. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:39, April 25, 2026 (UTC)

for the sake of transparency, a video of the entire Roy's Showdown stage can be found here. i recommend watching it and determining if the Boos with sunglasses really are as insignificantly different to consider the same as baseline Boos. — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 19:16, April 25, 2026 (UTC)
