Gameplay of Parachute in Game & Watch Collection 2

Parachute is a Game & Watch game released as a part of the Wide Screen series on June 19, 1981.[1] It was the first game in the Wide Screen series. The goal of the game is to catch parachutists before they land in shark-infested waters. The game is featured in the Gallery Corner in Game & Watch Gallery. It later appeared in Game & Watch Gallery 2, Game & Watch Gallery 4, and Game & Watch Collection 2. In Game & Watch Collection 2, there is also a game that combines this game with Octopus.

Gameplay

Classic version

The Classic version of Parachute from Game & Watch Gallery 2

The player controls a rowboat and has to catch smaller people parachuting out of a helicopter. Every parachutist the player catches is worth a point. As the player progresses in the game, more parachutists will appear, and they will eventually fall faster. If the player does not catch one, a shark lurking below will catch the person, and the player will get a miss. At 200 and 500 points, any misses the player has will be removed. When the player gets three misses, they receive a Game Over. In Game B, some parachutists get stuck in trees.

Modern version

The Modern version of Parachute (Game Boy Color)

Parachute was remade with an updated "Modern" version for Game & Watch Gallery 2. In this version, Mario controls the boat, trying to catch Toads, Yoshis, and Donkey Kong Jrs. as they parachute from a flying ship. The parachuting characters open their parachutes at different times: The Toads open them immediately after jumping out of the ship, the Yoshis open them either mid-fall or at the last minute, and the Donkey Kong Jrs. open them at the last minute. If a parachuting character falls into a cannon, it will be blasted back out. If a parachuting character falls into the water, a Boss Bass will attempt to eat it; eventually, a Fishin' Lakitu will reel the fallen parachutist out of the water and place that character on dry land. Every 100 points, three Yoshi Eggs will come out of the flying ship: one that contains a Boo (which will shoot Bob-ombs from the cannon), one that contains a Super Star (for five bonus points), and one that contains nothing. If Mario catches a Bob-omb, he will jump into the water, and the player will get a miss. The number of shots goes up based on how many points the player has (100 = one shot, 200 = two shots, 300 = three shots, etc.). If the player has any misses at 200, 500, or 700 points, three bubbles with question marks will come out of the flying ship, one containing a Heart to remove a miss. Unlike in the Classic version, music is featured, with the tempo changing depending on the speed of the game.

Other appearances

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mr. Game & Watch releases a parachute as one of his attacks. He does not retain this move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but he does use a Parachute to float down after using his Fire attack. The helicopter from this game also appears in the WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! microgame Air Supplies.
