Hey,in Yoshi's Story,there's a Pogo Guy who is an enemy. Does he not deserve a page?--Xterra1 13:37, 21 July 2008 (EDT)

Split Shyster and Pogo Guy[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Split 19-0

Currently, the article is mainly about the Shyster enemy of SMRPG with a brief mention that pogo stick-riding Shy Guys exist in Yoshi's Story. I don't think the merge makes sense.

1: They're different creatures entirely. Shysters are robots that happen to look like a Shy Guy ridding a sword-tipped pogo stick. Pogo Guys are actual living Shy Guys that use normal pogo sticks.

2: They appear in different games and have different names.

Keep Merged[edit]

Comments[edit]

Bodyguard[edit]

Shouldn't the Bodyguards be split, considering the different name and stats? I'd also argue that Apprentice (enemy) sets a precedent. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 23:02, July 27, 2019 (EDT)

Bumping this. Does anyone disagree with the idea of splitting these? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:36, May 30, 2021 (EDT)

The Player's Guide at least identifies Bodyguards and their Machine Made version as Shysters. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:39, May 28, 2022 (EDT)

Them "not" being Shy Guy...[edit]

From the Monster List: "They look like Shy Guys, but they're a completely different species that's part of the Smithy Gang.". Just to know, what do we do about this info? Like... remove them from the Shy Guy template or we just say "f it, they can stay there", remove Shy Guy from the "species of origins" in the infobox? I'm just curious if this info needs similar measures. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 16:13, November 17, 2023 (EST)

I would give them the Galoomba or Ragumo treatment, though I wonder if Punchinello's knockoff(?) bombs not being "true Bob-ombs" carries the same weight. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:15, November 17, 2023 (EST)
I mean, they're artificial like the rest of the Smithy Gang, so they're not real Shy Guys, in the same way the various Mecha enemies aren't real Koopas, Cheep Cheeps, Chain Chomps, right? Not sure if that's what they mean, though.
Anyway, here's the Japanese Monster List bios:
  • Shymore: ヘイホーに似ているが、カジオー軍団に所属する、まったく別の所属。ヘイホッパーという乗り物で攻撃する。
  • Microbomb: ペパット見よう見まねで、ボムへいに似せて作り出したバクダン。ボムへいより小ぶりに作られているため、威力も小ぶり。
Maybe these can help? Blinker (talk) 17:26, November 28, 2023 (EST)
Both their Japanese and English names include a play on Shy Guy names, and they look identical to normal Shy Guys. I would still consider them variants of Shy Guys. The intro of the article already mentions that they are artificial and I think we should leave it at that. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 18:10, November 28, 2023 (EST)
I think it should be given the "Subject Origin/Derived Subject" treatment. Them having Shy Guy-themed names could just refer to them being visually identical (apart from shoe color). Plus, Galoombas are considered relatives, even though both their English & Japanese names include "Goomba" in them (their Japanese name is literally "Kuribo" with an "n" tacked on the end). Personally, I think they're supposed to be knockoffs, much like Punchinello's bombs. Perhaps Smithy gave them a Shy Guy-esque appearance in an attempt to have them blend in.
