So, here we are. Does anyone edit Wikipedia by any chance...?

Covering the Minions[edit]

A while back I added a disambiguation link on the page that Minions redirects to that advised going to the Illumination page if someone wants to read about the Despicable Me Minions, which was reverted because "nobody would be looking for that". I'm personally of the belief that Stuart the Minion is a legitimate crossover character - the Mario Movie Minions logo isn't a recycled logo from the prior film, and is in fact very intricately Mario Kart-themed - and should be covered in some greater form, even if that's as simple as a few redirects and disambiguations as well as putting the concept art already on some gallery pages into this article.

Banana! (Create an article for the Minions and/or Despicable Me crossovers)[edit]
- Salmancer (talk) That sequence, as much as its purpose is "When you remember this film, remember Illumination!" is a part of the film. It runs as part of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, completely inseparable from it as far as official releases are concerned. Which means that, yes, Stuart has appeared in a work of Super Mario fiction. There's no way to curveball our way out of this one; we could if it were a reused sequence on the basis of it just being packaged with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but its a sequence unique to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Wikis about fiction are going to pick up a lot of strange topics by the nature of subject matter, especially one for something as prolific and as representative to a company as Super Mario is. Minions is a corner case of a corner case, but we should be okay with wild corner cases. Also Nintendo has their own sequence directly after the Illumination one, to grant that full coverage for using Super Mario concepts necessitates giving the Illumination one at least partial coverage. (Also, a ton of people don't know Minion names, so having things like Stuart and Bob redirect to Illumination will throw them for a loop. The names in question would be located farther down the page than would be visible from the top. A dedicated Minions page would have no such problems, as all relevant names could be part of the first paragraph.) EDIT: We are willing to cover flagrant advertising sometimes, see GLA and W 25 Silver Arrow for example, even if they are cases where the adverts are integrated into the content.
So Happy Together (expand coverage of the Minions in a section on this article - mentioning the crossover concept art, etc - and add redirects/disambigs)[edit]
- BubzieBobkat (talk) Per proposal. I think that for now this is the best way to go. When we take it as a granted that the Minion logo is original Mario content, the opening logo is kinda in a weird liminal space between a proper appearance (it is part of the movie outright) and also a crossover commercial. (it is... I guess promotional content? maybe.) From that, the Minions likely warrant more coverage than Ronald McDonald but less than Bomberman or Banjo for now.
- Salmancer (talk) I mean, it would be weird to say what I said in the above option and not also vote here.
I WILL STUFF YOU ALL IN THE CRUST (Keep it as is)[edit]
- Rykigru (talk) Minions have barely any contact with the Mario series, and only crossovered with them in the intros because they are Illumination films. They don't have enough relevancy to warrant an article. I should also mention this proposal, which decided that brand characters don't get articles, and characters like Ronald McDonald only appear with Mario to advertise a product. While Minions don't appear in any Mario advertisements (besides the one where they and the other Illumination characters see TSMBM, which I'm pretty sure is outside our scope.), they sort of act similarly to Ronald in the sense that "hey, we made Minions, and this movie". If Ronald can't get an article, neither can the Minions.
- Camwoodstock (talk) Per Rykitu; characters like the McDonaldland crew don't get pages, as their only involvement with Mario through advertisements. (Actually, it's funny we mention McDonalds as our smoking gun... No joke, you would have a better argument for a page about Happy, that weird sentient Happy Meal Box mascot that's clearly inspired by the Minions, than you would for the Minions themselves. Thank/blame/thank an obscure promotional Puzzle Swap puzzle for that one!)
- Yoshi18 (talk) Per Rykitu. I just don't think the minions have enough relevance to the Mario series.
- Bmaster2020 (talk) Per Rykitu. I'm on the keep side of this cause the Minions are mostly the mascots of the company itself. If they are canon to the Mario universe, it has to be some sort of crossover event that brings those two icons together (Mario + Rabbids for example). So far for this year we have Mario on April and Minions on July. The Minions didn't appear in any of the Illumination logos from the TV spots until the first film's release. When the trailers of the Mario Galaxy went up, the only thing we got from the Minions is the opening from Despicable Me 4. There was a video of all the Illumination characters, minus the Lorax, preparing the ultimate movie event in the Super Mario Bros. Movie promo. It's close but it's almost like a universe made by Illumination from Illumination. In fact, Descpiable Me was a concept based on a idea by Klaus director Sergio Pablos. He didn't like the Minions to be honest but it was from the directors themselves to make them real from Pierre Coffin (doing the voice of them) and Chris Renard (who also did voices for the Minions). When the Mario Galaxy film comes out, we'll see how we'll handle keeping this side or not. But if so, I propose a Minion-related intro section from Mario Bros to Mario Galaxy to even the odds on this debate and to see how well it'll perform to our standards.
- Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.
- Tails777 (talk) Per Rykitu. They're little more than mascots representing Illuminations, not Mario.
- Uh, who's this? (talk) Yoshi! (Per all)
- Hewer (talk) This proposal feels a bit self-contradictory, as it argues that the Minions should be considered full crossover characters, but that instead of this meaning they should get articles, it means we should cover the opening title thing from the movie on this page in more depth. But said opening title thing already seems to be sufficiently covered in its own paragraph on this page. I'm not really seeing what Mario-relevant information is missing from our current coverage here.
- LadySophie17 (talk) per all.
We are going to steal THE MOON! (Wait to see if the Super Mario Galaxy Movie has an explicitly Mario-themed Minion intro)[edit]
Comments[edit]
@Salmancer: Your argument seems to suggest that a character appearing in Super Mario media automatically means they get an article, which is not the case. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 10:57, March 10, 2026 (UTC)
