Merge to Culex[edit]

merge to group crystal article 0-9-0

This enemy is merely an extension of Culex rather than an individual enemy. Merging results in a more comprehensive article, as well as cutting down on division of information. Redstar 21:20, 15 December 2009 (EST)

Merge to Culex[edit]

Add support votes here to move this article to the Culex page as a sub-section.

(Please note that any vote will be counted likewise for each of the four crystals, due to all being affected by this proposal)

Merge to Group Crystal Article[edit]

Add support votes here to move this article to a group article covering all four of Culex' crystals.

(Please note that any vote will be counted likewise for each of the four crystals, due to all being affected by this proposal)

  1. Fawfulfury65 (talk) It will merge 4 stubs into a nice article.
  2. Knife (talk) 17:01, 17 December 2009 (EST) - You mean four?
  3. Bloc Partier (talk) -- Great idea. I may have disagreed with the Culex bit, but one "Elemental Crystals" article would be fantastic.
  4. Merging would be a great idea User:Yoshionfire
  5. Marioguy1 (talk) - Combining information into one easy to access place is a good idea.
  6. Gamefreak75 (talk) - Per all.
  7. Redstar (talk) - Looks like this is the preferred direction to take. Per proposal.
  8. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! It will be a good idea to merge them, the Culex article looks unfinished without the crystal elements, the article even reference to the crystal so why is it not there. Zero signing out.
  9. library_girl (talk) - Better organized, more comprehensive. Sounds good.

Leave un-merged[edit]

(Please note that any vote will be counted likewise for each of the four crystals, due to all being affected by this proposal)

Comments[edit]

No, they have different stats and psychopath thoughts. It would be best if all the crystals were merged together, but not with Culex. Fawfulfury65 (talk)

You know, I like that idea. The Psychopath thoughts don't matter, though. Redstar 22:01, 15 December 2009 (EST)
Now that there's more than 5 votes, we can officially merge these on to an "Elemental Crystal" article. We need a sysop to delete these old pages once the merge is complete. Fawfulfury65 (talk)
Five votes is all it takes? If I can get confirmation on that, I'll get to work on setting up the article. Redstar 19:47, 18 December 2009 (EST)

You can just redirect them, actually.--Knife (talk) 20:42, 18 December 2009 (EST)

Exactly my intention, but should we wait a week or so, or are discussion-page proposals different? Redstar 20:49, 18 December 2009 (EST)
I don't think there are any rules for discussion-page proposals. We just used common sense when we had such proposals. I guess with 9 support votes and no opposes it's safe to assume that the majority of the users agrees to merge the articles. Time Questions 05:47, 19 December 2009 (EST)
Time's opinion is as good as any. All four of the crystal pages will now be redirected, and the group article created. Redstar 05:59, 19 December 2009 (EST)
Meh, I wrote that before I noticed Bloc Partier made a proposal about it... Time Questions 06:05, 19 December 2009 (EST)
Yeah, well this proposal was made even before that. Wouldn't be good to stall progress on one thing for something else that may not come about. We'll be sure to implement whatever rules when the standard is put into place. Redstar 06:09, 19 December 2009 (EST)
The end of the discussion moved here from the former "Earth Crystal" talk page. Please do not edit or continue discussion.

Article created[edit]

Per consensus on merging the Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind Crystal articles, this group article has been created. Feel free to make any expansion or changes you feel necessary to improve it any further. The proposal and discussion relating to it can still be found here above. Redstar 06:11, 19 December 2009 (EST)

Why did you undo my edit? It did make a difference. I made the nicely placed left-to-right and now they're all over the place and pushing other templates around. Something must be done about those templates! They look terrible with the trivia and names in other languages section put in between them. Fawfulfury65

I don't really know what you're talking about. The way I had aligned them and the way I reverted them isn't affecting any other templates as far as I can see. Your alignment looked really awkward and created issue with the above and below sections, which would probably require break alls to fix. The only beneficial addition I could see were the added periods to the two trivia points, though I'm not entirely sure if we are or aren't supposed to add periods on those. I've seen different articles go either way. Redstar 08:26, 19 December 2009 (EST)

By other templates, I mean the four Mario RPG enemy templates. The wind crystal template is pushing the tables for the names in other languages section to the center and the trivia is squeezed to the right side of the article, when it should be at the bottom. Fawfulfury65

Exactly. I don't know what you're talking about. It looks normal to me, and I can only see what you're describing when aligned in your way. Can anyone confirm this happening on their end as well? Redstar 08:33, 19 December 2009 (EST)
Could it be because of different browsers? Internet Explorer and Firefox are a bit different... If that is true, I hate Firefox. Fawfulfury65
Could affect it. I use Firefox... I'll open up the page in IE and see if I get what you're seeing. Redstar 08:38, 19 December 2009 (EST)
Just checked. Both my alignment and your alignment view the same in IE as they do in Firefox, for me at least. Redstar 08:41, 19 December 2009 (EST)

Names in Other Languages Section[edit]

As it is now, I made each of the foreign languages boxes into a sub-section. I don't feel this is necessary, since it shows up on the Contents box, but considering there are four subjects on one article and each with a different foreign name, I felt some header for each was necessary. I would appreciate it if someone could create headers for each without it showing up on the Content box, but I'm unaware how to make text large enough to emulate the look. I also thought it would look better to push the Water and Wind Crystal foreign languages up, so that Water is beside Earth and Wind beside Fire. Again, I don't know how to do this, so I would appreciate help on that. Redstar 06:15, 19 December 2009 (EST)

But...the game only was translated to English and Japanese...No Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Chinese, Korean...--Mateo (Talk · Contributions) 19:36, 19 December 2009 (EST)

The sub-sections are fine to me. Many other articles are like that too. I don't understand whats wrong with the contents box in your opinion, it supposed to show every section, and if the four subsections didn't show up, it would be a little harder to navigate through the page. Only a little tough... Fawfulfury65

@MATEO: If the game wasn't translated into any other language, then we have no reason to show the non-existent translations. We put what we have.
@Fawful: Can you show an example? I can't think of any other article off the top of my head that divides the "Names in Other Languages" section even further into sub-sections, if there's more than one foreign language box. My issue with making them sub-sections is that each is only occupied by a single box, so there's no difficulty in navigating anywhere in particular quickly. Therefore, no need for sub-sections. However, I would like to have the headers as-is, just not as sub-sections, and if we could somehow align the two bottom boxes to the right of the first two boxes. Redstar 19:49, 19 December 2009 (EST)
How is it right now? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 20:02, 19 December 2009 (EST)
I think that's nice.
To Redstar: Yes,but I was saying that there are only 2 translations compared to the new games (9 O_o)--Mateo (Talk · Contributions) 20:08, 19 December 2009 (EST)
@Cobold: Perfect. I tried [large] tags, but didn't occur to me to try [big]... Any way to put a little spacing between the heading and each box?
@MATEO: I'm not sure what the issue is. Is it something we should be fixing? Redstar 20:14, 19 December 2009 (EST)
No Redstar,it's perfect, but you missed the point ._. but oh well I was only saying that there are only 1 name compared to the modern games.--Mateo (Talk · Contributions) 20:20, 19 December 2009 (EST)

It should be fixed now. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 10:25, 20 December 2009 (EST)

Plural?[edit]

I don't think we ever pluralize article titles (which is why we have "Goomba" instead of "Goombas"), so what's up with Crystals? Hello, I'm Time Turner.

If I check the article, it seem they are name after the group itself (like the Crystal Stars article). So, I think it's why it is write to the plural.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 20:18, 21 July 2015 (EDT)

Split the Crystals into four articles[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

split 8-0
2009 was an interesting time in the wiki's life, it was a hectic time full of troll attacks and personal drama but the wiki was growing and flourishing and starting to really take shape into what it is today. One of the most notable themes of 2009 was destroying small articles because they were "stubs." However most of those proposals didn't truly understand what a stub was an instead they merged perfectly good articles simply because they were small. Now I think this is an interesting merger because while it is true that these four crystals only show up at the same boss fight the fact is that they each have different names, different stats, and different attacks and I just don't see why they should be merged. Now you could argue that this it the same as the Koopa Bros. who are all merged together but I would say this is different whereas the game basically treats the Koopa Bros. as one entry with them sharing the same stats and attacks. I personally think the crystals are closer to the Axem Rangers with each having different characteristics (including personalities if you go by the Psychopath). Now you could argue that this fight is similar to Exor but I would argue that it's different because Exor is a single being with different parts whereas the Crystals are treated as separate creatures. Because of these factors I feel like a split is necessary.

Split[edit]

  1. Chester Alan Arthur (talk) Per my own words
  2. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Per Proposal.
  3. Niiue (talk) Per all.
  4. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per all.
  5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
  6. Time Turner (talk) Per all.
  7. Toadette the Achiever (talk) You're right. Just because an article is short doesn't automatically make it a stub.
  8. Camwood777 (talk) - Besides, even if an article is a stub, you could always just expand it.
