MarioWiki:Generative AI

Coursebot is best left for managing Super Mario Maker levels than writing text for you.
As of the 2020s, there has been a rise in the use of generative artificial intelligence (shortened to generative AI or genAI or commonly just AI) to assist the creation of content, and this is especially relevant to written text, where most of the content at MarioWiki is written by editors. In order to preserve the integrity of our website, we are banning the usage of generative AI in the entirety of mainspace. This means the following:
- Editors should not substitute content created by generative AI into any articles, which is generally considered plagiarism; work must be written by the user themselves. In other words, just as how you do not have other editors write for you, do not have generative AI write for you. The only exception is quoted text from official sources (such as in-game text descriptions, text from instruction manuals, text from official social media outlets, etc.).
- Editors may not use generative AI to upscale or otherwise edit existing files (images, videos, sound, etc.) of any kind. Any unofficial file made with generative AI that is not a personal file will be deleted. Again, the only exception is from official sources (such as an officially sponsored social media account uploading an image).
- Editors are encouraged to indicate where they found images, as some users may unknowingly upload files created or modified by generative AI by sharing an image they found off a social media site. If you are not sure if an image you uploaded has been created or modified with generative AI, please indicate the source of your image, and make sure your sources are from official accounts. There are AI tools that can verify if an image has been generated or modified by AI, including but not limited to Google's SynthID which checks if an image has been generated or modified by Google's Gemini service.
- Editors may not use generative AI to create flawed or strange coding via MediaWiki formatting, such as creating tables or templates. Please take time to learn MediaWiki formatting for yourself before resorting to generative AI to create unoptimal tables for you. Our community is filled with editors who are willing to help you out if you have problems here.
- Editors may not use generative AI to create and use premade text as a substitute for content on official wiki matters, which includes commenting on all talk pages and voting. Casual chatting with other editors can be acceptable depending on whom you are chatting with, but remember to not overdo nonmainspace editing and keep our userspace policy in mind.
If you are caught knowingly using generative AI in mainspace and pertaining to official wiki matters in talk pages (such as voting and commenting on proposals), this will constitute as a level two offense per our warning policy, as this is classified as plagiarism.
