MarioWiki:Spoilers
As an encyclopedia, the Super Mario Wiki does not censor its content. This means that, in our effort to cover everything as accurately as possible, you may end up reading about a point in a game you have yet to reach, secrets you have yet to find, or content you disagree with. If you do not want to see information for a particular game, you should avoid any relevant articles or sections. You can also read more about censorship in the last point of MarioWiki:Courtesy.
There are times where content gets revealed sooner than it was meant to be. This can be due to mistake by the bodies involved (a promotional picture being accidentally uploaded early, an actor slipping up in an interview) or through trademark, patent and copyright fillings. At other times, leaks of information have come from third-party sources, such as games being shipped or sold to consumers early before their official release date (something known as "breaking street date") or hacks of Nintendo resources by third-party groups. For these situations, the nature of how the leak happened and the content of it is considered:
- If content leak is caused by an official slip-up, it is considered fair game for coverage unless the amount of content leaked is very large (such as when the entire game of Paper Mario: Color Splash became playable early for people who had pre-ordered it from the Wii U eShop). In these situations, content revealed by such leaks should not be uploaded to the wiki until after the content has been released to the public or unveiled through official channels. Any files uploaded in violation of this rule will be immediately deleted, so please wait until release.
- If content leak of an upcoming game is caused by a third-party hack or a broken street date, it should not be covered. This is both out of consideration to our readers and the dubious legalities involved. Leaks for things that have either already released, or are not expected to be released, such as software created for internal use, are acceptable to cover.
