Variant of Hammer

The Claw Hammer is a Thing in Paper Mario: Color Splash. It is first found as an 8-bit Hammer item from Super Mario Bros. 3 in the Green Energy Plant virtual labyrinth. At the end of the underground section, Mario enters a Warp Pipe into a room with three pipes. Before entering one of them, Mario must activate his three-dimensional view, revealing a pixel hammer behind the middle pipe.

Once the pixel hammer has been picked up, it becomes the life-sized, mundane-looking Claw Hammer and is wrung out, refilling Mario's paint and becoming a colorless card. It is kept until it is used in battle, after which the pixel hammer returns to its original position. The Claw Hammer can also be purchased from the Wringer for 200 coins. A replica card of the Claw Hammer also exists, and may be collected from the Battle Spin or Prize Pipe Paths. The Claw Hammer may also be placed into the Prisma Museum, where it can be tested. Its description mentions it being harder than Mario's typical hammer and that it can be used to break large rocks in the way, further alluding to the hammer item from Super Mario Bros. 3.

When the Claw Hammer is used in battle, the scenery changes to a nighttime city setting. The large Claw Hammer drops into the battlefield. As aggressive music starts playing, the Claw Hammer swings near the enemies, narrowly missing them. After a few times, it slams into all the enemies, dealing massive damage to each of them. The player may press A Button as the Claw Hammer strikes to increase this damage.
