Layout[edit]

This level takes place in a desert. Mario can find two ? Blocks on the ground, and both of them contain coins. The third ? Block contains a power-up. The player then sees many bricks on top of ? Blocks, which also contain coins. The player then encounters their first Blockhopper. The Blockhopper gives Mario a power-up when defeated. As the player advances, they find more bricks, and more ? Blocks that contain coins. The player then sees a Spiny, and some more Blockhoppers, which contain coins inside of them. If the player jumps on top of a Blockhopper, they can reach some coins as well as their first Star Coin in the level. The player then climbs on top of some rocks, and finds another Blockhopper there, as well as some coins. Mario can jump on the Blockhopper to reach the coins easier. The player then finds two more Blockhoppers, one of which containing a power-up, which help the player reach more coins. The player then advances, and finds some coins along with a lone ? Block containing a power-up. A Fire Snake, along with another Blockhopper, can be found there. The player has to jump to cross the gap, where they find another Fire Snake surrounded by Blockhoppers.

Many coins can be seen in the air, and the player finds three bricks, one of which contains a P Switch. The player has to jump from a Blockhopper to reach the P Switch, and after the player presses it, a path to leading to the second Star Coin appears. As the player advances, they find a moving lift that goes vertically. A Boomerang Bro can also be found there. The player can then take two routes. The first route is to take the pipe guarded by the lone Boomerang Bro, which leads to the last area in this level. In the last area, Mario can find a Blockhopper and the pole. The player should jump off the Blockhopper to reach the top of the pole. If the player takes the second route, they can go under the quicksand from the area before, and keep jumping to avoid being sucked in, to find a block that the player is able to go through. Going through the block leads to more blocks and the next area. The player should then fall down from the blocks, and jump across the gap to find many coins, a Blockhopper, and the final Star Coin. The player should use the Blockhopper collect the Star Coin. The player should then jump from the blocks that they could go through and will end up by the pipe the player would have came from if they took the first route, and will follow the same route to reach the end of the level. The player then gains access to World 2-6.
