Chewies are green Piranha Plants in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake. Their stems and leaves are depicted as purple in game, and green in artwork. Chewies have high attack and magic attack and are usually accompanied by Beezos and other enemies. In battle, they use the fire attacks Hot Shot and Fire Saber, and can also put party members to sleep with Pollen Nap.

In the original game, outside of battle, they share the same red color as ordinary Piranha Plants. Likely due to this reason, the Bean Valley section of the Nintendo Power guide mistakenly calls them Smilaxes, which is a separate enemy with the same overworld sprite.[1] The remake uses the correct coloration in the overworld. A related enemy, Whuhoh, is a Chewy that disguises itself as a treasure box.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Chewies are mentioned briefly by Viridi during Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.

For most flora, a flower of a different color is still the same species. But for this monster, when its color changes, its name changes along with it.
