Mario Maker (working title) is an upcoming 2D platformer game for the Wii U which allows players to make their own Super Mario levels. It allows players to insert blocks, enemies, items, and more from the original Super Mario Bros.. There are some new modified power-ups, like a slimmer Super Mushroom that changes Mario into Super Mario but also makes him slimmer. The game also allows switching between the Super Mario Bros. and the New Super Mario Bros. U style. The game was announced at E3 2014 and is set to be released sometime in 2015.

Differences from base-games

Although the recreation is mainly faithful, there are some minor differences in both styles. For example: in the original Super Mario Bros. game, Lifts could not be jumped through from underneath, this was possibly put it place to remain consistent with the Lifts in the New Super Mario Bros. series.

Customization options

Mushrooms and most enemies can ride on top of other objects and bounce off springboards. Enemies can have wings added to them, which in the case of Goombas and Koopas, makes them look and act like their familiar "Para" variations. Red Koopas can be spawned by shaking a standard Green Koopa until it turns red.

Trivia

  • The new slim mushroom visually resembles a Dried Shroom. However, it actually comes from a bug that happened in development that made Mario skinny.[2]
