Template talk:Course infobox
Galaxybox[edit]
Why is it called galaxy box when it is also used in worlds of Super Mario 64? Rædi Stædi Yæti {-skriv til mig-} 21:20, 7 July 2014 (EDT)
- It should probably be moved to something like "{{3dlevelbox}}". PikaSamus (talk) 21:22, 7 July 2014 (EDT)
Sample field[edit]
Having recently added the track names to Super Mario 64 worlds, I think it would be helpful to have a sample field to add music samples to the infobox, similar to Template:Level infobox. Since we already have a place to add the track names, this is a natural extension of that. Admittedly, I am not confident in editing infoboxes yet, so I'd like to ask if anyone is able to make this change instead. — Lady Sophie_17

Decide how to handle progression[edit]

Ever since this proposal passed, it has been implemented in most infoboxes, including for levels and worlds. However, one area where it was not implemented was in courses, and this has always seemed like an outlier.
I believe that courses should be given the same treatment as levels and worlds, especially because most of them are numbered in order (64, Sunshine, and 64 DS), have linear unlocking requirements (Galaxy), or connected through linear paths (Galaxy 2, Odyssey, and Bananza). For example, Jolly Roger Bay could have its previous course show Whomp's Fortress and its next course show Cool, Cool Mountain, while Pinna Park shows both Gelato Beach and Sirena Beach. The only thing I'm not sure about applying this on are the "minor" courses in the first three games, especially since they aren't sorted in any notable order, and I will acknowledge that this would be a major point of contention for the implementation of this cell format in this infobox.
However, there is something else I have to discuss about: Super Mario Galaxy 2. The galaxies in this game are unique as they are the only ones whose infoboxes use progression, albeit the primitive form before the 2025 overhaul. It uses the notes section to show this, and while I do understand the logic behind this (after all, Galaxy 2 does use a world map like the 2D and "dark age" 3D games), it not only is inconsistent with the other games, it is, as I said, outdated. It doesn't even sort through the galaxies through world map order; it just sorts them through list order (in Galaxy, the list separated each galaxy by type before its access area).
Therefore, I propose to make a change to this template, but there are several ways we can accomplish this:
- Add the cells and apply them to all courses (in 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy): This would make the infobox consistent with the other infoboxes I mentioned, but there are some issues. Will the non-main courses be sorted with or after the main courses? At least for Galaxy, the Star List does show the "minor" galaxies in order, but not for the other two games I mentioned. Those two games will be a discussion for another time, so I don't recommend voting this option.
- Add the cells but only apply them to the main courses (in 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy): Only the "major" courses will be counted, which are the numbered ones in 64 and Sunshine and the "major" galaxies in Galaxy, sorted by star requirement. Because Galaxy 2, Odyssey, and Bananza are truly linear with every course following the same template, there will be no course "segregation" in these games.
- Add the cells but only apply them to Galaxy 2: Does not require any additions to course pages that don't have these progression sections; only Galaxy 2 will be affected, although the progression will change from the Star List to how they are shown on the World Map.
- Remove the progression section from Galaxy 2 galaxy infoboxes: Gets rid of the bottom section of the infoboxes that show the primitive progression texts.
- Do nothing: As obvious as it sounds.

Add the cells and apply them to all courses[edit]
Add the cells but only apply them to the main courses[edit]
- I... am R.O.B. (talk) Unlike with side courses, the main ones are pretty much listed in proper order, so this should still show progression with a consistent line.
Add the cells but only apply them to Galaxy 2[edit]
- I... am R.O.B. (talk) If they ain't worth removing, better to fix it.
Remove the progression section from Galaxy 2 galaxy infoboxes[edit]
- I... am R.O.B. (talk) If adding full cells to course infoboxes is too confusing, I think it's only fair to remove them from the sole game that still has them.
