A while ago, "Maple Treeway (theme)" was moved to "Wii Maple Treeway (theme)" due to being the name of the original theme. Except it's not. That's the name of the theme's reuse in Mario Kart 7, where the course the theme plays in is renamed to "Wii Maple Treeway". And as established in MarioWiki:Article naming § Musical theme titles, the name of the theme should accurately represent its original appearance. It's the same reason I gave as to why "Wii Mushroom Gorge" shouldn't be considered an alternate name for "Mushroom Gorge", as that name only make sense for that theme's reuse in Mario Kart 7, not its original appearance.
The actual name of the original theme is from the Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack, which only released in Japan. And since there's currently no English source for the original theme outside of its reuse in Mario Kart 7, the only other English name available is the Mario Kart World arrangement, "Maple Treeway", which much better accurately represents the theme's original appearance. And since we've established with Mario Kart: Super Circuit's "Bowser Castle" that the name of an English arrangement is allowed if the original theme only has an official Japanese name, I see nothing preventing the same thing from applying here as well.

Oppose[edit]
- The Dab Master (talk) "Wii Maple Treeway" is the current English title for the original theme. I think even if the prefix is absent in its original appearance, it represents the fact that the course debuted in Mario Kart Wii. If titles with prefixes weren't representative of a theme's original appearance, then stuff like "DS Mario Circuit" and "GCN Sherbet Land" shouldn't have been eligible for their own articles.
- Salmancer (talk) Given that Nintendo Music exists and so far is being constantly supported, this problem will go away on its own in the forseeable future. There will be a Mario Kart Wii release based on the Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack, and from it we will have the final name for the article. Let's just wait for that to happen. Besides, this change would cause this article to gain Template:Derivation, and is it worth using that template if the current page title is functional? Its written in English, and it is clearly referring to the subject. Most of the times Template:Derivation is called upon its for pages that have names that fail one of these.
- EvieMaybe (talk) while i agree with the idea behind this proposal, i am going to oppose it. i believe this change shouldn't come out of carving out an exception for Maple Treeway, and instead it should come from a reexamination of how we name reocurring music themes wiki-wide. so, while the end result of this proposal passing would be agreeable to me in a vacuum, it wouldn't actually fix anything.
- Hewer (talk) The only official English name that has been applied to the original version of this theme is "Wii Maple Treeway". This is different from the other Mario Kart Wii themes because they either returned as an arrangement instead of the original, meaning the original has no official English name (such as Moo Moo Meadows (theme)), or the original also appeared in some other game where it was named in English (such as Mushroom Gorge (theme)). As Salmancer says, we should just wait for the fairly likely Mario Kart Wii Nintendo Music release and all will be solved.

Comments[edit]
Themes like "GBA Sky Garden" and "GBA Snow Land" are exceptions, as those currently don't have official names for their original themes whatsoever, English or Japanese. Wilben (talk) 20:33, January 24, 2026 (EST)
- Also, I think a prefix indicating that the theme originates in Mario Kart Wii is pointless given that literally every other musical theme from that game lacks one, and themes that share the same name as another (i.e. "Luigi Circuit" and "Rainbow Road") simply have "Mario Kart Wii" in its identifier alongside "theme". To Salmancer, derivation would not apply to this theme, as "Maple Treeway" is an official name. Wilben (talk) 00:05, January 25, 2026 (EST)
- "Maple Treeway" is not an official name for this song, which is the point. Using it in this case would be derivation from the name 「 メイプルツリーハウス」.--PopitTart (talk) 11:38, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
- This doesn't even translate to "Maple Treeway" anyway, it's "Maple Tree House" according to the NIOL section. The Dab Master 12:32, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
- Hence why translating it as Maple Treeway would be considered "derived". Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 14:15, January 25, 2026 (UTC)
- "Maple Treeway" is the official name in Mario Kart World. I thought I made that clear in my explanation above, but I guess not. Wilben (talk) 23:52, January 25, 2026 (EST)
- Also, my suggestion wasn't to go with the name in the Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack, but rather the name in Mario Kart World. Again, I thought I made that clear in my explanation above. Wilben (talk) 05:44, January 26, 2026 (EST)
- "Maple Treeway" is the name of an arrangement, while "Wii Maple Treeway" is a name that refers to the original theme. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 14:59, January 26, 2026 (UTC)
