Chief Chilly is a large Big Bully made of ice, or possibly a Chill Bully; signifying that Chill Bully is in fact a species and not a notable Bully, and apparently the leader of all Bullies. He first appeared in Super Mario 64 DS, the Nintendo DS remake of Super Mario 64. Out of all the mustached bosses in the game, Chief Chilly takes great pride about his. mustache. Bowser hired him to trap the heroes of the game along with his other minions. He is much larger than an average bully, and has a spiked moustache and a crown of ice crystals.

Before Yoshi could realize what happened in Princess Peach's Castle, Chief Chilly, along with Bowser, Goomboss, and Big Boo (presumably King Boo), ambushed Mario, Luigi, and Wario, which Chief Chilly was put under the control of Wario. Luigi came to Wario's rescue and was forced to battle the monstrosity. Despite being the weakest of the three mustached heroes, he managed to beat him and push Chief Chilly off the iceberg three times and the key was given to Luigi at last. Chief Chilly disappears after the battle to restyle his mustache and to get a rematch next time. During his first battle, it gets a little tricky; as every time he's pushed in the water, he will cut up the arena making it smaller. After taking a second hit, he'll rock the iceberg and, if pushed to the edge, he will keep his balance for a little before going back to the middle. It's best for the player to smash him while he's slipping.

Within battle, Chief Chilly acts like a Big Bully; he can be defeated by knocking him off the stage into the freezing water using the character's attacks. Luigi's Backward Somersault can also knock him back. Occasionally, Chief Chilly releases coins when he is hit. If the player is standing in the middle of the stage, they take damage. On the third attempt of pushing Chief Chilly off the ledge, he manages to stay on the ledge while off-balance, so the player must hit him once more to deal the final blow. Failure to do so results in Chief Chilly regaining his balance. Once Chief Chilly has fallen for the third time, he grants the player Wario's key.

In Mario Kart DS, Luigi must battle Chief Chilly in Level 6 of Mission Mode. Like the battle with Big Bully, Luigi must push Chief Chilly off his platform and into the water. However, Chief Chilly must be pushed off three times instead of one time, and becomes stronger and trickier after each time he is pushed off. Indeed, after the second time he falls in the water, Chief Chilly will be able to Jump over Luigi's boost attacks. To defeat him, Luigi had to attack Chief Chilly from the side, where the boss couldn't see him, or while the Bully boss is charging at him, which will knock both of them back, or if right nearby him. Chief Chilly is faster, stronger, and slightly more intelligent than Big Bully in this game.

Interestingly, Chief Chilly has special quotes for when facing Yoshi and when being defeated by him (see the quotes page for more).

Chief Chilly, Super Mario 64 DS

Chief Chilly is a boss who appears in Super Mario 64 DS and Mario Kart DS. Resembling a larger version of the Chill Bully, he is much larger than an average Bully and has a spiked mustache and a crown of ice crystals.

History[edit]

Chief Chilly in Super Mario 64 DS

Before the events of Super Mario 64 DS, Chief Chilly locked Wario up and was told by Bowser to guard the key to Wario's door. Chief Chilly is found at the end of the stage Chief Chilly Challenge, which only Luigi can access using a Power Flower in the room with the large mirror. Once the player enters Chief Chilly's arena, he states that he locked Wario up because he was rude and mocking his mustache.

Within battle, Chief Chilly acts like a Big Bully; he can be defeated by knocking him off the stage into the freezing water using the character's attacks. Luigi's Backward Somersault can also knock him back. Occasionally, Chief Chilly releases coins when he is hit. Every time the player manages to knock him off the edge, Chief Chilly makes the stage smaller and then hops to the middle of the stage.

In Mario Kart DS, Luigi must battle Chief Chilly on Level 6 of Mission Mode. Like in the battle with the Big Bully, Luigi must push Chief Chilly off his platform into the water. However, Chief Chilly must be pushed off three times instead of once and becomes stronger and trickier with every successful attack on Luigi's part. However, after he falls into the water for the second time, he gains the ability to jump over Luigi's boost attacks. To defeat him, Luigi has to approach Chief Chilly, then attack him either from the side, where the boss is unable to see him, or while the boss is charging at him, which knocks both of them backward.
