It has been requested that this article be rewritten and expanded to include more information.

Template:Infobox Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (know as Super Donkey Kong 3: Nazo no Krems Shima in Japan) is the third game for the popular Donkey Kong game series, Donkey Kong Country. It is the sequel to Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. It also has a semi-sequel for the Game Boy, Donkey Kong Land III. The game stars Dixie Kong and her little cousin, Kiddy Kong, as they travel through the numerous lands of the Northern Kremisphere in order to rescue Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong from the Kremling Krew and their new leader, KAOS.

A remake of the game was released for the Game Boy Advance on November 7, 2005 with new features, most noticeably six new stages and an all-new soundtrack designed for the Game Boy Advance sound system. Also, on December 24, 2007, the game was released on the Virtual Console for the Wii in North America. On December 25, it was released in Europe and Australia.

Animal Buddies

As with every Donkey Kong Country game, Animal Buddies appear to help out the monkeys. Several old friends return in Donkey Kong Country 3, such as Enguarde, Squawks, and Squitter, and several new ones appear, such as Ellie and Parry. Each buddy helps the apes in a different way, but are only found in certain levels. Below shows the game's Animal Buddies, along with their abilities and their first and last level appearances.

Image Name Description First Level Appearance Last Level Appearance
File:ElephantThingDonkeyKongCountryThreeDixieDoubleTrouble.png Ellie the Elephant Ellie the Elephant is a new animal buddy that replaces Rambi from the first two games. Ellie is not as strong as Rambi, but she can pick up and suck barrels towards her, which is a useful technique for defeating certain enemies. She can also suck up water from lakes and waterfalls to shoot at enemies. Unfortunately, she is afraid of Sneeks, and she runs away from them at first sight. Ellie is also used in the boss fight against Squirt. Lakeside

File:EnguardeDKC.PNG Enguarde the Swordfish Enguarde returns from the first two games, acting the same as he did previously. He is able to defeat underwater enemies with his sharp nose and is used in the boss fight against Barbos. In this game, he can be found in most levels with water, even ones that are not fully submerged, such as Tidal Trouble. Tidal

File:Nibbla65.png Nibbla Although usually an enemy, Nibbla serves as an Animal Buddy through the level, Fish Food Frenzy, and must follow the apes throughout the whole level. While it is helpful in some cases (eating enemies such as Kocos), it can also attack the heroes if not properly fed. Feeding it Lurchins makes the fish more likely to attack the apes, and not feeding it at all can also make it attack them. Fish Food Frenzy Fish Food Frenzy
File:ParrotmanthingDonkeyKongCountryThree.png Parry the Parallel Bird Parry is a new non-playable Animal Buddy that is a big help to the Kongs, in terms of finding hidden objects. As his name suggests, he is always parallel to the Kongs and usually has enemies waiting for him. He can easily defeat Booty Birds, but can be defeated by any other enemy, especially Buzzes. The Kongs go though many challenges to reach the buddy's No Animal Sign, but if they do make it to the sign, the monkeys usually get a large reward, such as a blue Extra Life Balloon or Bonus Barrel. File:Quawks Sprite.png Quawks the Parrot Quawks is a purple sub-species of Squawks found only in two levels, Low-G Labyrinth and Buzzer Barrage. Unlike Flapper, another Squawks sub-species, he can fly, but cannot spit eggs. Instead, he has the ability to pick up and roll barrels, which can be proven very useful. Low-G Labyrinth Buzzer Barrage
File:Squawkssprite65.png Squawks the Parrot Squawks is much like Quawks, however, he is able to shoot eggs at enemies, an ability Quawks does not possess. He can also fly through the many levels of the game easily and attack any enemy, usually Buzzes, that is in the way. However, he can not pick up barrels when being played as. Springin' Spiders Swoopy
Salvo
File:Squittersprite65.png Squitter the Spider Squitter returns from Donkey Kong Country 2, acting exactly as he did previously. He can create web platforms to reach higher areas and spit webs to defeat enemies, usually Bristles. As in Donkey Kong Country 2, Squitter has a level dedicated to himself, known as Krack Shot Kroc. He appears in most factory levels of the game. Fire-Ball Frenzy Tyrant Twin Tussle

Differences in the GBA Port

There are many differences between the SNES version and the GBA version.

  • Wrinkly Kong is now only located in Wrinkly's Retreat, between Funky's Rentals and Bazaar's General Store.
  • The other areas where Wrinkly was is now replaced by Cranky's Dojo where the player can play a minigame to earn a Banana Bird.
  • The original soundtrack of the game, which was notably darker in tone in most of the levels, had been replaced by a lighter-toned soundtrack that was composed by David Wise, who composed the soundtrack of the two first Donkey Kong Countries, but only had a limited involvement with the soundtrack of the third on the SNES, which was in majority composed by Eveline Fischer.
  • The game introduces the new area, Pacifica, which is the 7th area, between Razor Ridge and KAOS Kore.
  • The Brother Bear Barnacle is relocated to Pacifica, while Bachelor, a new character that only appears in this port, now takes residence in Lake Orangatanga.
  • Anytime after completing Mekanos, the player can visit Bramble and he will give Dixie and Kiddy a Banana Bird.
  • Funky Kong now has four minigames, depending on how many vehicles the player can rent.
  • Swanky Kong now runs a virtual reality machine where only Dixie Kong can play. The player has to collect a certain number of stars to earn a Banana Bird. Also, Swanky wears the same attire that he wore in Donkey Kong Country 2, unlike the original, where his outfit was different.
  • After beating Mekanos and Cotton-Top Cove, the player now has the option of being in either K3, Razor Ridge, and Pacifica.
  • Barbos has been relocated to Pacifica while Kroctopus, a new boss, now inhabits Razor Ridge.
  • The houses that the Brothers Bear live in, as well as the bears themselves, have been redesigned. Also, the same music is heard in every house and no longer changes according to the bear. (The music piece is also heard in Funky's Rentals, Swanky's Dash, and Wrinkly's Retreat.)
  • There are now five extra banana birds to collect, increasing the total to 20.
  • The game also borrows several elements from Donkey Kong Land III, the original Game Boy counterpart to the SNES version. These include automatically getting the DK Coin after defeating Koin.
  • Oddly, Blizzard is now a grizzly bear, as opposed to the original, where he was a polar bear.
  • The boss Squirt now has more attacks and has been made harder to defeat.
  • The level Fish Food Frenzy has been slightly extended.
  • When a DK Coin is collected it tells the player how many more are left.
  • The Re-Koils move much faster.
