The Pyro Guy and Roserade[edit]

Greetings! This is The Pyro Guy (talk) writing here, and along with my running-mate Roserade (talk), we are running for the position of Poll Committee Chairperson. I hope to be serving as the Chairperson and I have chosen Roserade to be my Vice-Chairperson. I’ve worked as a Poll Committee member for two years now, starting in the 7th term and am now finishing my 8th term. I have also recently joined The ‘Shroom staff as Pipe Plaza director after being a dedicated writer for multiple years and teams. These jobs have given me a true understanding of the community and taught me the requirements for a team leader here. I'm now ready to expand my duties and bring another team under my leadership using the skills I've learnt from contributing to this place. Aside from official titles, I've been an involved member of the community, participating in community events such as Mafias, Killing Games or Awards Ceremonies to develop my reputation, talents and community bond.

It'd be an injustice for me to write about Roserade, so he's contributed his own statement about his experiences and qualifications. Take it away, Rose!

Greetings! My name is Roserade, or Rose as I'm more commonly known around here, and I am running for your Poll Committee Vice Chairperson alongside TPG! Being part of this community has been a really great experience for me personally, especially with being part of the Poll Committee team for this past year. I've learned a lot, both inside and outside of the MarioWiki, these past twelve months, and I feel like I am ready to take on a leadership position. This community has given me so much, and being able to give back is something that I'm certainly looking to do further.

Regarding my credentials, I have been an active member on the Poll Committee team, as well as having written for the 'Shroom several times now. Along with these working opportunities, I have associated and interacted with the MarioWiki community through events like the Killing Games, the Secret Santa/Satan exchanges, and hosting my own Mafia games. Outside of this website, I have been head of two different clubs at my own school, and have participated in nine total in my time there, as well as help organize performances and school-wide events. While I can't post any photographic proof here due to security reasons, feel free to message me on the Boards if you'd like proof of these credentials! In that time, I've not only learned about what being in a leadership position requires, but also how important time management is to the success of a group, which is something we’ll be looking towards more in-depth this year if we are elected.

Now I'll hand things over to TPG, who will be outlining and detailing our plans for the future of the Poll Committee! In the words of the wise winstein, “Thank you for reading.”

Our plans are aimed at maintaining a productive level of user input and activity throughout the Poll Committee’s 9th term. This begins with a perhaps major change; downsizing from 10 members to 8 members. It was increased last year to accommodate for a larger workload, but also resulted in a number of activity problems, perhaps stemming from the idea of being able to rely on this larger committee to carry out work in their place. This led to a number of projects having to be put down due to lack of Committee input and motivation. This is something we would both very much like to avoid this term, which is why we will whittle down the Committee's numbers. By reducing the number of members, we get to have a tighter committee, and with a better focus. We also get to refine our team, ensuring that the users we work with are all reliable. This will partly be accomplished through tweaks to the application process and a sterner attitude towards inactivity.

Despite a smaller team, we would still like to retain the activities that the Poll Committee performed in the previous term. One of the first tasks we had was to create the Awards Analysis section for The ‘Shroom. This entailed presenting the Fail and Mario Awards in an easy to understand bar chart with analysis into these results. Did a game release influence public opinion of these characters? Have the results changed since last year, and why? We expect every member to chip in and cover the many awards presented in the ceremony, as it's a great way to familiarise with the practice of poll analysis for Poll Committee Discussion, which will be expanded on below.

Secondly, the Community Surveys from this term will be continued in the future. We will dedicate ourselves to releasing three over the term, zooming in on specific areas of the site and people to produce helpful responses that the entire community can use to improve upon. It’s vital to put the information we gather to use, and we’ll push for the changes that the public want to see. These surveys will be varied in topic but consistent in quality. Along with discussing the results internally to ensure their effectiveness, we may also provide additional analysis in the 'Shroom to show our understanding of the public opinion. Finally, the regular 'Shroom Section Poll Committee Discussion will continue as normal, providing insight into the polls released that month. We would like to see every member write for this at least once in the term.

Even though both Rose and I are new to the position we know we will be more than capable of taking it on and working hard with our team to produce the best polls we can, and to make our other projects as effective and successful as possible. We thank you for reading and considering our campaign, and if you have any suggestions, questions or comments feel free to post below. We'll do our best to take in and respond to anything you have to say. Again, thank you for reading!

- TPG and Rose

Comments[edit]

Some minor mistakes. The Poll Committee is currently on its 8th term, so that means it is the election for the 9th term. :) --LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 21:52, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

All fixed now; thanks for letting us know! :p UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 02:22, 20 June 2018 (EDT)

Now that the stage is open for comments, I do have to voice a concern that I desperately hope isn't taken the wrong way by any party involved.

Namely, this is directed at Roserade. Do you plan on being more active in general? My main concern is that for the past few months, there has been next to no activity from you in the poll nomination voting process. This, along with the inactivity of several other members, has made the poll nomination and approval process rather difficult at times.

If you are elected as the Vice Chairperson, will you make an effort to be more active in this side of things? --Fun With Despair (talk) 21:59, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Don't worry about any offense! I can definitely understand where your concern can come from. Specifically for this last term, towards the end of the year things became more cluttered for myself than I had previously expected with school. Of the nine clubs I mentioned I partook in above, eight of those happened this year, which I found was (obviously) too much for me, especially with how I wanted to dedicate myself to this community as well as my school, my family, and other events like driver's ed. So for this coming year, I've consciously made the effort to eliminate a lot more of this clutter from my life, dropping the number of school clubs I'm participating in to three, and additionally stepping away from other conflicts similar to driver's ed, which will allow me to focus far more strongly on my duties as a Vice Chairperson. With that, I can ensure you that if I am elected, I will be able to dedicate myself far further than I have the last two months or so. Thank you for the question! Roserade (talk) 22:43, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

If anyone is wondering why their vote may have been removed, voting does not start yet for another few days. Feel free to revote after June 23rd at 00:01 GMT. UserPyroGuy.png (T · C) 02:22, 20 June 2018 (EDT)
